Book Synopsis Static Thrust Augmentation of a Rocket-ejector System with a Heated Supersonic Primary Jet by : Albert J. Simonson
Download or read book Static Thrust Augmentation of a Rocket-ejector System with a Heated Supersonic Primary Jet written by Albert J. Simonson and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An investigation was conducted in order to evaluate the static thrust augmentation attainable through the use of a rocket-ejector system with a heated supersonic primary jet. This system consisted of a cylindrical mixing tube in conjunction with a supersonic nozzle having an expansion ratio of 15 to 1. A hydrogen peroxide gas generator was used to provide heated nozzle flow. An ejector with a bellmouthed inlet provided thrust augmentation up to about 18 percent of the primary rocket thrust, whereas the use of a blunt-lip inlet with elliptical profile provided augmentation up to 9 percent. Axial withdrawal of the rocket nozzle from the ejector provided small gains in thrust augmentation."--P.[1]

Volume 4 written by National Aeronaut Administration (Nasa) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was initiated to identify operations problems and cost drivers for current propulsion systems and to identify technology and design approaches to increase the operational efficiency and reduce operations costs for future propulsion systems. To provide readily usable data for the Advanced Launch System (ALS) program, the results of the OEPSS study have been organized into a series of OEPSS Data Books. This volume describes three propulsion concepts that will simplify the propulsion system design and significantly reduce operational requirements. The concepts include: (1) a fully integrated, booster propulsion module concept for the ALS that avoids the complex system created by using autonomous engines with numerous artificial interfaces; (2) an LOX tank aft concept which avoids potentially dangerous geysering in long LOX propellant lines; and (3) an air augmented, rocket engine nozzle afterburning propulsion concept that will significantly reduce LOX propellant requirements, reduce vehicle size and simplify ground operations and ground support equipment and facilities. Book Synopsis Operationally Efficient Propulsion System Study (Oepss) Data Book. Volume 7; Launch Operations Index (Loi) Design Features and Options by : National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Download or read book Operationally Efficient Propulsion System Study (Oepss) Data Book. Volume 7; Launch Operations Index (Loi) Design Features and Options written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-09 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A design tool of figure of merit was developed that allows the operability of a propulsion system design to be measured. This Launch Operations Index (LOI) relates Operations Efficiency to System Complexity. The figure of Merit can be used by conceptual designers to compare different propulsion system designs based on their impact on launch operations. The LOI will improve the design process by making sure direct launch operations experience is a necessary feedback to the design process. Ziese, James M. Kennedy Space Center NAS10-11568...

Download or read book Operationally Efficient Propulsion System Study (Oepss) Data Book. Volume 9; Preliminary Development Plan for an Integrated Booster Propulsion Module (Bpm) written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-09 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary development plan for an integrated propulsion module (IPM) is described. The IPM, similar to the Space Transportation Main engine (STME) engine, is applicable to the Advanced Launch System (ALS) baseline vehicle. The same STME development program ground rules and time schedule were assumed for the IPM. However, the unique advantages of testing an integrated engine element, in terms of reduced number of hardware and number of system and reliability tests, compared to single standalone engine and MPTA, are highlighted. The potential ability of the IPM to meet the ALS program goals for robustness, operability and reliability is emphasized. DiBlasi, Angelo G. Kennedy Space Center NAS10-11568...

Book Synopsis Maintaining U.S. Leadership in Aeronautics by : National Research Council
Download or read book Maintaining U.S. Leadership in Aeronautics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-10-07 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the completion of the National Research Council (NRC) report, Maintaining U.S. Leadership in Aeronautics: Scenario-Based Strategic Planning for NASA's Aeronautics Enterprise (1997), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Office of Aeronautics and Space Transportation Technology requested that the NRC remain involved in its strategic planning process by conducting a study to identify a short list of revolutionary or breakthrough technologies that could be critical to the 20 to 25 year future of aeronautics and space transportation. These technologies were to address the areas of need and opportunity identified in the above mentioned NRC report, which have been characterized by NASA's 10 goals (see Box ES-1) in "Aeronautics & Space Transportation Technology: Three Pillars for Success" (NASA, 1997). The present study would also examine the 10 goals to determine if they are likely to be achievable, either through evolutionary steps in technology or through the identification and application of breakthrough ideas, concepts, and technologies.
