Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of an article by G. DoETSCH in 1927 it has been known that the Laplace transform procedure is a reliable sub stitute for HEAVISIDE's operational calculus*. However, the Laplace transform procedure is unsatisfactory from several viewpoints (some of these will be mentioned in this preface); the most obvious defect: the procedure cannot be applied to functions of rapid growth (such as the 2 function tr-+-exp(t)). In 1949 JAN MIKUSINSKI indicated how the un necessary restrictions required by the Laplace transform can be avoided by a direct approach, thereby gaining in notational as well as conceptual simplicity; this approach is carefully described in MIKUSINSKI's textbook "Operational Calculus" [M 1]. The aims of the present book are the same as MIKUSINSKI's [M 1]: a direct approach requiring no un-necessary restrictions. The present operational calculus is essentially equivalent to the "calcul symbolique" of distributions having left-bounded support (see 6.52 below and pp. 171 to 180 of the textbook "Theorie des distributions" by LAURENT SCHWARTZ).

Book Synopsis Introduction To The Operational Calculus by : Lothar Berg
Download or read book Introduction To The Operational Calculus written by Lothar Berg and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to the Operational Calculus is a translation of "Einfuhrung in die Operatorenrechnung, Second Edition." This book deals with Heaviside's interpretation, on the Laplace integral, and on Jan Mikusinki's fundamental work "Operational Calculus." Throughout the book, basic algebraic concepts appear as aids to understanding some relevant points of the subject. An important field for research in analysis is asymptotic properties. This text also discusses examples to show the potentialities in applying operational calculus that run beyond ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients. In using operational calculus to solve more complicated problems than those of ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients, the concept of convergence assumes a significant role in the field of operators. This book also extends the Laplace transformation and applies it to non-transformable functions. This text also present three methods in which operational calculus can be modified and become useful in solving specific ranges of problems. These methods pertain to the finite Laplace transformation, to partial differential equations, and to the Volterra integral equations and ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients. This book can prove valuable for mathematicians, students, and professor of calculus and advanced mathematics.

Book Synopsis Tables of Mellin Transforms by : F. Oberhettinger
Download or read book Tables of Mellin Transforms written by F. Oberhettinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains tables of integrals of the Mellin transform type z-l J (a) 1> (z) q,(x)x dx o t Since the substitution x = e- transforms (a) into (b) 1> (z) the Mellin transform is sometimes referred to as the two sided Laplace transform. The use of the Mellin transform in various problems in mathematical analysis is well established. Parti cularly widespread and effective is its application to problems arising in analytic number theory. This is partially due to the fact that if ¢(z) corresponding to a given q,(x) by (a) is known, then ¢(z) belonging to xaq,(x) or more general to P xaq,(x ) (p real) is likewise known. (See particularly the rules in sections 1. 1 and 2. 1 of this book. ) A list of major contributions conce~ning Mellin trans forms is added at the end of the introduction. Latin letters (unless otherwise stated) denote real positive numbers while Greek letters denote complex parameters within the given range of validity. Book Synopsis Applied Functional Analysis by : D.H. Griffel
Download or read book Applied Functional Analysis written by D.H. Griffel and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stimulating introductory text, this volume examines many important applications of functional analysis to mechanics, fluid mechanics, diffusive growth, and approximation. Detailed enough to impart a thorough understanding, the text is also sufficiently straightforward for those unfamiliar with abstract analysis. Its four-part treatment begins with distribution theory and discussions of Green's functions. Essentially independent of the preceding material, the second and third parts deal with Banach spaces, Hilbert space, spectral theory, and variational techniques. The final part outlines the ideas behind Frechet calculus, stability and bifurcation theory, and Sobolev spaces. 1985 edition. 25 Figures. 9 Appendices. Supplementary Problems. Indexes.

Book Synopsis Linear System Theory by : Lotfi Zadeh
Download or read book Linear System Theory written by Lotfi Zadeh and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2008-07-24 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The state space approach is widely used in systems ranging from industrial robots to space guidance control. This landmark in the technique's development and applications was written by two pioneers in the field, Lotfi A. Zadeh and Charles A. Desoer, who teach in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Starting with a self-contained introduction to system theory, the authors explain basic concepts, presenting each idea within a carefully integrated framework of numerous illustrative examples. Most of the text concerns the application of the state space approach to systems described by differential equations. Problems of stability and controllability receive particular attention, and connections between the state space approach and classical techniques are highlighted. The properties of transfer functions are covered in separate chapters. Extensive appendixes feature complete and self-contained expositions of delta-functions and distributions, the Laplace and Fourier transform theory, the theory of infinite dimensional linear vector spaces, and functions of a matrix.

Book Synopsis Statistical Theory of Signal Detection by : Carl W. Helstrom
Download or read book Statistical Theory of Signal Detection written by Carl W. Helstrom and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical Theory of Signal Detection, Second Edition provides an elementary introduction to the theory of statistical testing of hypotheses that is related to the detection of signals in radar and communications technology. This book presents a comprehensive survey of digital communication systems. Organized into 11 chapters, this edition begins with an overview of the theory of signal detection and the typical detection problem. This text then examines the goals of the detection system, which are defined through an analogy with the testing of statistical hypotheses. Other chapters consider the noise fluctuations in terms of probability distributions whereby the statistical information is used to design a receiver that attains the maximum rate of successful detections in a long series of trials. This book discusses as well the criteria of success and failure in statistical situations. The final chapter deals with the types of stochastic signals. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians and engineers.
