Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to bring the attention of the reader to the facts and information surrounding the complaint, obviously fraudulent, which was made in 1996 to the Police (Perth, W.A), against me, who is the author of this book, by a woman. This court matter was severely in breach of justice, and the corruption involved in the matter is, undoubtedly, of first degree. The complaints against relevant Police officers, elements in the Prosecution, the judges, and other relevant people in the judicial system are extremely severe. My fight for justice should not be considered as anti-Police or as anti-judicial. I love genuine Police and judicial services that fight against crime. Crime has never been a part of my life and it would never be. I detest lawlessness. I am a person who goes along with the system to maintain law and order, which brings peace and stability in the society. Therefore, the experience I had in jail by living with people who were lawless and violent was not pleasant at all. I am a person who loves justice, and serve the genuine interest of the public. In my life I had zero tolerance for people who lived by violence and lawlessness. Therefore, it is fair for me to say that I could be one of the best crime resistances any system could think of. It is very ugly to see lawlessness and unjust behaviour among people, especially, who are supposed to serve honesty and justice. I was put in jail by criminal elements, who were working for a system that was supposed to serve honesty and justice. Inferences made on the available evidence suggest that entire judicial process got corrupted as a result of the influences from these elements. Undoubtedly, the process was corrupted to serve their self interests, which were evil. The person who made the sexual allegations against me had indirect and or direct influences in the Western Australian Police Service. The complainant called the Police against me three days after she met me. She did so through a friend who was a very good friend of at least one of the W.A Police officers. It was this (or these) Police officer(s) who initiated the process. This was completely evident at the Preliminary hearing, which took place on 05/05/1997 at the Court of Petty Sessions at Perth Central Law Court. The judges, the Prosecution, the defense Lawyers, the Police, and other allies of them, in relation to this court matter, have taken a suicidal path to get a falls set of convictions against me, and, therefore, I strongly believe beyond any reasonable doubts that the influence of the complainant had on the Police Service, and the influences that resulted from that influence had to be so corrupt and wide spread.

Book excerpt: This three-volume study examines the questions raised by the performance of the military institutions of France, Germany, Russia, the United States, Great Britain, Japan and Italy in the period from 1914 to 1945. Leading military historians deal with the different national approaches to war and military power at the tactical, operational, strategic, and political levels. They form the basis for a fundamental re-examination of how military organizations have performed in the first half of the twentieth century. Volume 2 covers the interwar period. Volumes 1 and 3 address World War I and World War II, respectively. Now in a new edition, with a new introduction by the editors, these classic volumes will remain invaluable for military historians and social scientists in their examination of national security and military issues. They will also be essential reading for future military leaders at Staff and War Colleges.

Book excerpt: Everyone laughs at what southerners call a "snowstorm." A half-inch of the white stuff, and Atlanta panics. No one's laughing this time. A freakish combination of weather elements surpasses even the experts' predictions. Suddenly much of the upper South is covered in several feet of snow. There's never been a storm like this in the region before. Never in recorded history. For Atlanta executive J.C. Riggins, the storm is only one of the killers he'll have to face. In a desperate bid to save his job, his company, and quite possibly his young son's life, Riggins must transport a defense contract to North Carolina. The deadline can't be missed. With airports and roads closed, Riggins sets out in an SUV through a stunned countryside where no one can help him if trouble happens. Which it does, the moment a dangerous criminal joins him for the ride. H.W. "Buzz" Bernard is an Air Force veteran and retired Weather Channel meteorologist. His 2010 hurricane thriller, Eyewall, became a number one bestseller in ebook. Visit him at buzzbernard.com.

Book excerpt: This report examines how snow chaos in December 2010 closed Heathrow, disabled parts of the rail network and disrupted many roads. More can and should be done to ensure UK transport networks continue to operate in severe winter weather, the Commons Transport Committee finds. The welfare of air and rail passenger must be taken more seriously and better real time information must be provided to road users. In its report the Transport Committee calls for additional investment and coordination by government to: ensure the final version of the Department for Transport's Climate change Adaptation Plan refers to the future risk of severe winter weather; improve resilience of the third rail network south of the Thames, with a long term aim to install a more resilient method of electrification; oversee airport planning for major incidents including snow chaos, particularly at Heathrow and review airport regulations to ensure they take account of this; permit airport operators to reclaim the cost of looking after stranded passengers when airlines fail to discharge their responsibility to do this; provide better online advice for individuals and communities about tackling problems arising from severe winter weather; launch a high profile campaign to increase the proportion of motorists taking precautions for driving in winter weather; develop clearer snow and ice risk travel warnings for freight vehicles similar to those for strong winds; investigate the case to provide the Met Office with more money to improve its long range forecasting capability sufficient to improve the way transport operators can warn passengers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Blizzard of 1977 was a deadly blizzard that hit the Western N.Y. state area upstate New York and Southern Ontario from January 28 to February 1, 1977. Daily peak wind gusts ranging from 46 to 69 mph were recorded by the National Weather Service Buffalo Office, with snowfall as high as 100 in recorded in areas, and the high winds blew this into drifts of 30 to 40 ft. There were 23 total storm-related deaths in western New York, with 5 more in northern New York. Certain pre-existing weather conditions exacerbated the blizzard's effects. November, December and January average temperatures were much below normal. Lake Erie froze over by December 14; an ice-covered Lake Erie usually puts an end to lake-effect snow because the wind cannot pick up moisture from the lake's surface, convert the moisture to snow and then dump it when the winds reach shore. Lake Erie was covered by a deep, powdery snow; January's unusually cold conditions limited the usual thawing and refreezing, so the snow on the frozen lake remained powdery. The drifted snow on roadways was difficult to clear because the strong wind packed the snow solidly.

Book excerpt: After the attacks on 11 September 2001, Apache units made significant contributions to the Coalition campaign against Taliban and al-Qaeda forces in Afghanistan. Functioning as the 'killer' part of US Army Hunter-killer teams, Apaches sought out and brought overwhelming firepower to bear on Taliban and al-Qaeda forces, as well as providing direct support to Coalition troops on the ground. Apaches spearheaded the advance of the 3rd Infantry and the 101st airborne divisions into Iraq, engaging in some of the heaviest fighting along the western axis of advance. Weather and enemy fire took a heavy toll on Apaches operating in Western Iraq, but the resilience and flexibility of the Apache was central to the success of this campaign.
