This book was released on 1956 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calculations have been performed for the gamma-ray dose rate: (1) inside a uniformly contained Volume, as in a radioactive cloud or in contaminated water; (2) as a function of altitude above the center of a uniform contaminated circular island; and (3) as a function of altitude above uniformly contaminated water. The calculations have been performed for monoenergetic sources of 0.15, 0.30, 0.60, 1.2, and 2.5 Mev and for some experimentally observed fallout Spectra.

Book Synopsis Operation Ivy, Pacific Proving Grounds, November 1952 by : Melvin P. Klein
Download or read book Operation Ivy, Pacific Proving Grounds, November 1952 written by Melvin P. Klein and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the intensity of fall-out gamma radiation as a function of time and distance from the Ivy Mike and King shots are reported. Instruments were placed around Eniwetok Atoll and at several atolls in a southerly semicircle with respect to Eniwetok. Contrary to expectations in the winds prevailing at the time of the Mike shot were south or southeasterly and no fall-out gamma radiation with the limits of detectability was measured at any location other than Eniwetok. The gamma radiation measured on Eniwetok Atoll was considered normal fission fragment radiation which decayed with a t- -1.2 characteristic.
Book Synopsis Fort McClellan Radiological Instruction Area (ARMS-II) by : Robert Barton Guillou
Download or read book Fort McClellan Radiological Instruction Area (ARMS-II) written by Robert Barton Guillou and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Aerial Radiological Measuring Survey (ARMS) of the U.S. Army Chemical Corps School, Radiological Instruction Area, Fort McClellan, Ala., was made for the Civil Effects Test Operations, Division of Biology and Medicine, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, on Jan. 15,1962, by Edgerton, Germeshausen AND Grier, Inc., (EG AND G). The primary purpose of the survey was to test and evaluate the operation of the ARMS-II system over a high-intensity radiation field of small area. The radiation area is about 1000 yards long and less than 300 yards wide. The sources (Co60) produce a dose rate of about 300 mr/hr along the center line. Data from an areal survey of the range were contoured to show the distribution of the gamma-ray flux at 500 ft above the ground. The count rate over the center of the range was greater than 15,000 counts/sec on the low-sensitivity detector. Data on the air attenuation of gamma rays were collected from flights along the center line of the range at altitudes ranging from 100 to 3500 ft above the ground. Maximum count rates on low sensitivity ranged from more than 50,000 counts/sec at 100 ft to 1300 counts/sec at 1300 ft. Maximum count rates on high sensitivity ranged from more than 50,000 counts/sec at 1500 ft to about 2000 counts/sec at 3500 ft above the ground.

This book was released on 1956 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) has scheduled a test series of atomic weapons and devices at the Pacific Proving Ground (PPG) in the Spring of 1956. This test series, known as Operation REDWING, will consist of approximately sixteen detonations. The first shot is scheduled for 1 May 1956, and it is anticipated that the last detonation will occur not later than 15 August 1956. This plan covers the operational phase which will begin with the deployment of major elements of Joint Task Force SEVEN to the Pacific Proving Ground.
Book Synopsis Gamma-ray Penetration Experiments for a Light Aircraft Carrier Using Distant Sources and Sources Simulating Contamination of the Hull by : S. Tomoeda
Download or read book Gamma-ray Penetration Experiments for a Light Aircraft Carrier Using Distant Sources and Sources Simulating Contamination of the Hull written by S. Tomoeda and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The penetration of gamma rays into compartments of an aircraft carrier from two different radioisotopes was measured in two different experiments. In one experiment, cobalt-60 and cesium-137 point isotropic sources were exposed near the hull of the ship to simulate hull contamination. Measurements of dose were made in the forward part of the ship at four different deck levels. Dose distribution data are presented for the two sources used and for the different source points considered. In the second experiment, nominal 500-curie collimated cobalt-60 source was exposed at a distance of roughly 100 feet from designated points to irradiate two general regions of the ship. Dose distributions are presented for each of 18 different source positions used. Five decks were in instrumented in each of the two general regions considered. Diagrams indicating source positions, and hull-plating thicknesses are also presented.

Book Synopsis Gamma-ray Energy and Angular Distributions Near the Air/ground Interface from Plane Fallout and Point Co60 Sources by : R. L. French
Download or read book Gamma-ray Energy and Angular Distributions Near the Air/ground Interface from Plane Fallout and Point Co60 Sources written by R. L. French and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monte Carlo techniques were applied in a detailed study of the gamma radiation environment three feet above the air/ground interface due to two types of gammaray sources: (1) fallout uniformly distributed on the ground surface, and (2) a Co60 point source also three feet above the ground at separation distances of 100 to 800 feet. In each case, the scattered and direct-beam fluxes were computed in each of ten receiver energy intervals between 0.04 and 3.5 Mev and eighteen equal receiver angle intervals between 0 (nadir) and 180 degrees (Zenith). All results were integrated over azimuthal angle at the receiver to reflect distribution in polar angle only. The source energy was used as a parameter in the fallout calculations and the results thus computed for each of ten different source energies may be weighted and combined to obtain data for fallout of any desired age. Comparisons of the Monte Carlo data with measured data and with other calculated data, both for fallout and for Co60 point sources, show favorable agreement. (Author).

Download or read book Defense's Nuclear Agency 1947-1997 (DTRA History Series) written by Defense Threat Reduction Agency and published by Militarybookshop.CompanyUK. This book was released on 2003-09 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This official history was originally printed in very small numbers in 2002. "Defense's Nuclear Agency, 1947-1997" traces the development of the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project (AFSWP), and its descendant government organizations, from its original founding in 1947 to 1997. After the disestablishment of the Manhattan Engineering District (MED) in 1947, AFSWP was formed to provide military training in nuclear weapons' operations. Over the years, its sequential descendant organizations have been the Defense Atomic Support Agency (DASA) from 1959 to 1971, the Defense Nuclear Agency (DNA) from 1971 to 1996, and the Defense Special Weapons Agency (DSWA) from 1996 to 1998. In 1998, DSWA, the On-Site Inspection Agency, the Defense Technology Security Administration, and selected elements of the Office of Secretary of Defense were combined to form the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).
