Besides covering the geohydrology it also offers a brief account of the ancient water resources works, explains from where the water is coming, how the water is being used in homes and in the industry, how the dams are operated in the hurricane season, some aspects of the water-energy-food securities nexus and the expectations for the future in connection with global climate change. The book is of interest to every one connected with the water resources of Mexico, e.g. federal and state employees of agencies related with water management, water supply and wastewater treatment. It is also of value to those in academia and employed at water related professional associations and the general public.
Book Synopsis Water Encyclopedia, Domestic, Municipal, and Industrial Water Supply and Waste Disposal by : Jay H. Lehr
Download or read book Water Encyclopedia, Domestic, Municipal, and Industrial Water Supply and Waste Disposal written by Jay H. Lehr and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 1014 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1 outlines water supply infrastructure. The requirements for supplying water to a home, a city or a factory can be very different. Experts in these fields explain the nuances of the details involved in maintaining adequate quantity and quality for these different consumers. Waste water management can be of even greater concern, yet its management can follow similar paths when compared to sophisticated water supply treatment. Both the physics and chemistry of these fields are fully covered. Volume 2 deals with the big picture of regional water supplies, how they become contaminated, how they can be protected and how they can best serve the surrounding populations and industries. Significant focus is placed upon the natural chemistry of available water supplies and its biological impacts. Case studies from regions around the world offer an excellent picture of the world's water resources.
Book Synopsis Artificial or Constructed Wetlands by : María del Carmen Durán-Domínguez-de-Bazúa
Download or read book Artificial or Constructed Wetlands written by María del Carmen Durán-Domínguez-de-Bazúa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial or constructed wetlands are an emerging technology particularly for tropical areas with water scarcity. For big cities, the sustainable management of water resources taking into account proper use is always challenging. The book presents case studies illustrating the above. As plants and microorganisms are a fundamental part of the correct functioning of these systems, their contribution to the degradation of the organic matter and to the removal and transformation of the pollutant compounds present in the wastewaters is also a highlight of this book.

Book Synopsis Inequality and Climate Change by : Carlo Delgado-Ramos
Download or read book Inequality and Climate Change written by Carlo Delgado-Ramos and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century. Anthropogenic activities, such as fossil fuel consumption and other activities focused on enhancing economic growth, have been identified as the main drivers of changes in the environment that defy planetary boundaries. The transgression of planetary boundaries has profound implications for practically all biophysical and human systems and their impact could also be related to the exacerbation of existing problems such as land tenure insecurity, poverty and inequality, marginalization of poorer populations, climate induced migration, and resource wars or conflicts. From a global South perspective, research on the multifaceted nature of climate change is thus necessary and appropriate, including the analysis of socioeconomic, political and cultural aspects. This book is an outcome of the Comparative Research Workshop on Inequality and Climate Change: Perspectives from the South of the South-South Collaborative Programme of CLACSO-CODESRIA-IDEAS. It gathers a diversity of case studies from the South with ample biophysical differences and particular social and cultural realities. As such, it is a fresh contribution offering a vantage point from which to examine some of the current perspectives on inequality and climate change.
Book Synopsis Water Availability and Management in Mexico by : Elena María Otazo-Sánchez
Download or read book Water Availability and Management in Mexico written by Elena María Otazo-Sánchez and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-28 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents several complex case studies related to water management and planning in the context of pollution, growing demands, and global climate change in Mexico, but which are also relevant for other countries in Latin America. These concerns are of critical importance for policymakers who are coping with multiple conflicting interests. Water availability in Mexico is polarized, with abundant rainfall and large rivers in the south, and desert-like conditions in the north. The central region, which is the most industrialized, is overpopulated. Mexico City pours millions of cubic meters of “blackwater” into the northern valley daily and receives its clean water from the south. To address these unsustainable conditions, the world's 4th biggest water treatment plant went into operation in 2018. The water infrastructure and governance must satisfy the demands of all sectors, including agricultural, urban, and economic activities. At the same time, water resources are affected by drought, and climate change puts constraints on the supply. As such, regulation and monitoring are important when it comes to adherence to agreed plans and priorities. The book is divided into four sections. 1: Water Availability discusses quantitative aspects, such as supply, methods of calculation, and fracking. 2: Water Quality highlights pollution risks and diagnosis of water resources. 3: Water Allocation examines the sectoral demands and vulnerability due to unsustainable irrigation. 4: Water Governance and Management focuses on laws, urban rules, national parks, planning, and integrated water resources management, among other topics. The chapters include illustrative case studies in Mexico, such as basins, cities, reservoirs, and aquifers, water supply demand assessment, planning, and management.

Book Synopsis Investigations on the Recovery of Phosphorus from Wastewater by Crystallization by : Laura Pastor
Download or read book Investigations on the Recovery of Phosphorus from Wastewater by Crystallization written by Laura Pastor and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2006-06-27 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, due to expanding populations and industries, regulatory authorities have imposed tighter discharge limits on nutrients from wastewater treatment facilities to avoid eutrophication in water streams. Common methods, such as metal salt precipitation, are being used to lower phosphorus concentrations which are a main contribution. However, alternate phosphorus removal techniques, such as phosphorus crystallisation, can provide further benefits. Precipitated solid can be utilised as a marketable fertiliser. Principles of magnesium and ammonia phosphate precipitation, working with a synthetic wastewater and a supernatant coming from dewatering an anaerobic digested sludge, are studied in this work.
