Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Opening Pandora s Box is an essay inspired by the horrible deeds of terrorists on 9/11 2001. It is a personal investigation into the nature of the world s great religions, their positive and negative traits. The author s conclusion is that of the three or four most influential spiritual geniuses of the last four thousand years would include Krishna, Moses, Buddha, and Jesus those that had spiritually developed adherents, especially in meditation, urged their students to become like them, rather than simply follow a belief system. These teachers gave their students, at whatever level of development, exercises to lessen and evaporate their ego consciousness and eventually to become one with the universe or God or any word you wish to apply. I think Jesus did teach this also, but early Christianity turned away from it to become an institution and to seek converts. Unquestionably, an institution can do great spiritual good in regards to outreach, but mystical developments must come from a one-on-one teacher basis. The farther away from this oneness goal, the more likely to be mistaken about it since the larger the ego, the more self-oriented it will be and the more likely it will be wrong not only about the goal itself, but also about the process. Being simply a student, I am talking about these things as a student and urge my readers to investigate all this for themselves. Anthony Joseph

Book excerpt: Are you known to strike like a thunderbolt when things don't go your way? Are you fortunate enough to have the Midas touch? Have you ever been struck by Cupid's arrow? Classically derived expressions are commonly used in our everyday language, yet many of us have little knowledge of the Greek and Roman influences that inspired them. With Opening Pandora's Box you'll discover the fascinating stories behind familiar phrases like Achilles' Heel, a Nemesis, To Fly too Close to the Sun, and more. For example, did you know that... The lifesaving operation known as the Caesarean section is so named because Julius Caesar was delivered by being cut out of his mother's womb? The original labyrinth was built on the orders of King Minos of Crete after Aphrodite cursed his wife to fall in love with a bull and produce a monstrous baby? The king locked the baby in a maze so complicated and tangled that, once in, he would never emerge. The word cereal is derived from the Italian corn goddess Ceres?Pry open the lid of the English language to find the secrets behind classical phrases we use every day.
Book Synopsis Opening Pandora's Box by : Denny Ryder
Download or read book Opening Pandora's Box written by Denny Ryder and published by Publish America. This book was released on 2004-10 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a true and harrowing story of survival in the face of mindless, almost casual brutality, betrayal, cultural and religious hypocrisy. This story is told by two people from different cultures-one from the East and one from the West. Looking beyond the pain of their lives; these two people transcend cultural nuances that mask the common denominators of humanity. Denny is English, Christian, an ex-entertainer and singer. He was blinded by a mugger in London in 1991. Ali is originally from Lebanon, Muslim, and a successful industrial chemist with a pharmaceutical company in Geneva. They have discovered, since they met, some of the most remarkable parallels in their lives, including many dark secrets. Coming to terms with their pasts has provided the opportunity to explore apparent differences. In addition, these so-called unbridgeable chasms turn out to be little more than surface noise disguising deep common themes, and this is one of the major revelations of this book.
Book Synopsis Pandora's Box Opened by : Roy A. Harrisville
Download or read book Pandora's Box Opened written by Roy A. Harrisville and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-09 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many, the historical-critical method has released a host of threats to Christian faith and confession. In Pandora's Box Opened, however, Roy Harrisville argues that despite the evils brought upon biblical interpretation by the historical-critical method, there is still hope for it as a discipline. Harrisville begins by describing the emergence and use of the historical-critical method. He then attends to the malaise that has come over the method, which he says still persists. Finally, Harrisville commends the historical-critical method, though shorn of its arrogance. He claims that the method and all its users comprise a "Pandora's Box" that, when opened, releases "a myriad other pains," but hope still remains.

Book Synopsis Heretics and Believers by : Peter Marshall
Download or read book Heretics and Believers written by Peter Marshall and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-02 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sumptuously written people’s history and a major retelling and reinterpretation of the story of the English Reformation Centuries on, what the Reformation was and what it accomplished remain deeply contentious. Peter Marshall’s sweeping new history—the first major overview for general readers in a generation—argues that sixteenth-century England was a society neither desperate for nor allergic to change, but one open to ideas of “reform” in various competing guises. King Henry VIII wanted an orderly, uniform Reformation, but his actions opened a Pandora’s Box from which pluralism and diversity flowed and rooted themselves in English life. With sensitivity to individual experience as well as masterfully synthesizing historical and institutional developments, Marshall frames the perceptions and actions of people great and small, from monarchs and bishops to ordinary families and ecclesiastics, against a backdrop of profound change that altered the meanings of “religion” itself. This engaging history reveals what was really at stake in the overthrow of Catholic culture and the reshaping of the English Church.
Download or read book Pandora's Box written by Zuki Nobis and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pandora's Box is a Christian exegesis that unravels the spiritual falsehood underlying the worship of a very subtle and deadly evil spirit popularly referred to as 'Mary'. The book, based on the sound truth of scripture, uses the bible and a few other authorities, the most prominent of which is Marina Warner's Alone of all her Sex, to establish a striking relationship between 'Mary' and a great number of demons which had mystified the world throughout history under the appellative 'The Queen of Heaven'. The most intriguing aspects of the book, however, are its frank and piquant presentation of the stark and often unperceived danger faced by the hundreds of millions of votaries who worship this terrible pseudo-Mary that has held the world captive for over sixteen centuries. And then, there is the unprecedented explanation of the bible in this regard which many bible scholars will find not only explosive but also highly enlightening.
