Book excerpt: From the famed publisher and poet, author of the million-copy-selling collection A Coney Island of the Mind, his literary last will and testament -- part autobiography, part summing up, part Beat-inflected torrent of language and feeling, and all magical. "A volcanic explosion of personal memories, political rants, social commentary, environmental jeremiads and cultural analysis all tangled together in one breathless sentence that would make James Joyce proud. . ." —Ron Charles, The Washington Post In this unapologetically unclassifiable work Lawrence Ferlinghetti lets loose an exhilarating rush of language to craft what might be termed a closing statement about his highly significant and productive 99 years on this planet. The "Little Boy" of the title is Ferlinghetti himself as a child, shuffled from his overburdened mother to his French aunt to foster childhood with a rich Bronxville family. Service in World War Two (including the D-Day landing), graduate work, and a scholar gypsy's vagabond life in Paris followed. These biographical reminiscences are interweaved with Allen Ginsberg-esque high energy bursts of raw emotion, rumination, reflection, reminiscence and prognostication on what we may face as a species on Planet Earth in the future. Little Boy is a magical font of literary lore with allusions galore, a final repository of hard-earned and durable wisdom, a compositional high wire act without a net (or all that much punctuation) and just a gas and an inspiration to read.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Little Boy from SoHo." Thirty Nine years ago on May 25, 1979, a Little Boy who lived in SoHo, New York barely age six was allowed to go to his school bus stop by himself, according to his mother. He never returned home after school and from all reports, he never got on the school bus that morning. The parents make their call at 6 PM to the police and at 10 PM the author and eleven of his fellow cops responded to search for the boy. They were unlucky in their search that night. The author searched hard for the boy because he had a nine month old daughter at home at the time. He didn't want to imagine what it would be like to lose her. There was no evidence as to how the boy went missing, everyone was questioned and re-questioned who lived in the neighborhood at the time. The case went frozen, not cold until a man in New Jersey made a statement to relatives. Everyone believed him, except for this book's author. He was tried and convicted and sentenced to do twenty five years to life in prison, for a crime this author believes he didn't commit. This is what prompted the author to write "The Little Boy from SoHo". He wants to get what he has uncovered out for people to read. His problem is that he needs to reference the boy's name which he doesn't want to do. He wants people to hear what he believes to be the truth in open court where he has been stymied from testifying. Robert McKenna (R.E. McKenna) joined the NYPD in 1974 but was laid off July 1975. He went from one job to another, and decided to get his college degree on weekends. Then he was hired to be Nelson A. Rockefeller's personal body guard after he left the Office of United States Vice-President. April of 1978, he was called back to the NYPD. He quickly made Sergeant and Lieutenant. He was called upon to clean up Washington Square Park as Lieutenant. In six months the Park was rid of its drug entrenched dealers. He made front page of the New York Times, something no other NYPD Lieutenant had achieved unless they had been arrested. The case has remained with him throughout all those years. He listened to the media accounts of both trials and to individual statements the little boy's mother made. He keeps shaking his head and asking himself, "why am I the only who sees it." You will see what the author sees after reading his book.

Book excerpt: This book is a collection of true stories that happened in the life of the author Del Hart on a dairy farm in Central Pennsylvania. After Del was blessed with his own children, he would often lie with one of them in bed at bedtime and tell these stories loud enough in order that all four children could hear in the adjoining bedrooms before they went to sleep. All the stories deal with Del's family. His family consisted of his mom and dad, Judy, Rod, his twin sister Deb, and Matthew. Judy was three years older than Del, and Rod was one year older. Matthew was born fourteen years later than his other brothers and sisters. For this reason, Matthew is not mentioned in many of the stories. Even though the stories occur at different times in Del's early life, they all begin with the same sentence. Del's children loved this group of words and would often start the story by reciting this sentence. Their dad would then choose a story, from memory, and finish it. Del's children, Leah, Thomas, Lydia, and Timothy, heard one story each night and, in time, heard these stories many times. However, Picking Up Pears, The Bees Nest and Deb's Shoe, and The Cow Story were some of their favorites. Del would like to thank his children for the special times he shared with them during these bedtime stories. The stories you are about to read have all been heard by Del's children many times. Del hopes that you will enjoy these stories as his children did.

Book excerpt: Little Boy Wild was a small boy who did not have permission to be alive, and this is his epic real-life journey as an abused child in search for himself. It is fearless, hauntingly beautiful, and sometimes disturbing. Whenever he can, he lives wild with the animals - his only true friends, while he seeks to avoid the "Humans" who may cause him to "opt out" and hide far within himself. It is rare for a work of this magnitude to appear on the literary scene, but in spite of all the hurt involved, Little Boy Wild moves forward in his quest for self-identity and love with hurtful self-searching honesty. Wild Boy's personas are deeply split and fragmented. His adventures may well come across like the reading of a psychiatrist's highly confidential doctor-patient journal of record - all wrapped up in hilarious humour and rollicking fun! His psyche switches between two major personalities, plus the Preacher and the Move Director. Frequently he sees Little Boy Wild "outside of himself." He is also psycho-sexually warped and is unsure as to whether he is gay or not. Eventually he blows his mind apart with LSD, but in the final analysis - out of all the hell of psychosis, something very beautiful occurs. Little Boy Wild and I struggled "Phoenix-like" throughout our tragic childhood and turbulent teens, to an adult life under the guise of "normalcy." We later discovered that we were gifted the pain of emotional and physical torture, in order to become an entity of extraordinary resilience and strength. This now enables us to see with eyes that know the unknowable, and to understand that which others can only approach as a frontier to be explored.
