A trickster and a crook of the lowest level, and despised by even his own mother, he prowled on the gritty streets of Brooklyn, like a hearetless predator, always looking for a vulnerable female to exploit. This he did until he met a decent Christian girl, whose world was light years away from his, and his life would change in ways that even he could never have dreamed of.

Book Synopsis Essential Cases on Misconduct by : Benedict Winiger
Download or read book Essential Cases on Misconduct written by Benedict Winiger and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-01-22 with total page 1316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The various national European legal systems offer a broad range of responses to the question of what can be regarded as wrongful behaviour or fault. The present work systematically examines these two important prerequisites for tortious liability under the combined heading of ‘misconduct’. Unlike current textbooks, national casebooks and monographs, it builds on the experiences gathered in the national legal systems over the past decades and thereby fills a major gap which still exists today. It thus does what the previous volumes in the ‘Digest of European Tort Law’ series did for other key elements of tort law, namely natural causation and damage. Once again, the publication contains a selection of the most important cases from 28 states across Europe as well as cases handed down by European Union courts; it also highlights cases from earlier periods of legal history. For each case, the facts and the relevant court decision are presented and these are then accompanied by an analytical commentary. In addition, the editors provide comparative analyses of the cases reported and a special report is dedicated to how key decisions would be resolved under model European rules on tort law. The editors believe that the material gathered here may provide guidance for an organic convergence of the national legal systems in Europe. It constitutes the basis of an acquis commun that is infinitely richer (though also much more complex) than the rather bland and abstract concepts contained in national codifications, European legislation and modern model rules.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On October 18, 2011 Joel and his family's life changed forever when his older brother and best friend Mathieu was hit and killed by the driver of a 28 ton crane truck. Mathieu, an artist, was riding his bike home from his art studio in Brooklyn, NY. The tragedy made headlines on CNN, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Maclean's Magazine, the CBC, and many other news agencies in Canada and the US. Through his eyes Joel gives first-hand knowledge of what it's been like to go up against one of the world's largest police forces, the NYPD. It took Joel and his family six years to discover the truth about how his brother was killed. In his own straight forward and heartfelt way, Joel speaks of the grief, sadness, anger and frustration he felt during his family's long fight for justice. Joel was inspired to write this story to raise awareness about traffic safety and to show others who are victims of injustice that they have a voice and that they can make a difference. He hopes his story will inspire others who are struggling against injustice.

Book excerpt: Frank Sullivan, an occasional contract employee of the CIA, has been recruited again--this time for work in an Iran where the Islamic revolution of 1978-79 is already well underway. Frank's assignment is to work for the Agency under US Air Force cover while officially serving as a propaganda adviser to the Iranian military. As Frank conflicts with an agency bureaucracy seeking field reporting that justifies Washington's already-determined conclusions, he gains a growing awareness of the inadequacy of American intelligence on the revolution's real nature. And as he witnesses the overrunning of the American embassy by militants, he realizes how intertwined his job has become with his life. Trying to survive a chaotic civil war is the least of Frank's problems as he becomes involved in efforts to recruit a high-level Russian KGB agent and to learn the identity of a mole back at Agency headquarters. But the closer he gets to the objects he pursues, the more likely it becomes that he won't make it out alive. Set during the final days of the Shah and the consolidation of power under Ayatollah Khomeini, Edmund P. Murray's The Peregrine Spy is a stunning novel of a time and place that has never left the public conscious. It is also a keenly told story of the inner workings of the CIA and the extent of its reach.
