A visual feast for the senses, this highly designed paperback showcases the PCT through clever infographics, modern illustration, and insightful text. The book captures both the grandeur of the West Coast as well as the tiniest things that a thru-hiker notices and experiences during a 140-day trek. Through the written word, graphic design, and illustration, The Pacific Crest Trail: A Visual Compendium conveys the beauty and the beastliness of a 2,650-mile wilderness hike from Mexico to Canada. The author chronicles the PCT through infographics about the trail and the thru-hikers' experience, and includes arresting illustrations of the landscape and minutiae of the trail. Everything from trail markers, weather challenges, and the stories behind popular toponyms to the songs stuck in a hiker's head, thru-hiker trail names, and food consumed will be addressed, making this an ideal gift for any outdoor enthusiast.

Book excerpt: One of America’s most esteemed natural history writers takes to the hills of the Pacific Northwest in search of Bigfoot—and finds the wildness within ourselves. “A unique book in the bigfoot literature . . . that understands what most lifetime bigfooters eventually come to know: that bigfooting is about the journey more than the destination.” —Cliff Barackman, field researcher and star of Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot Awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to investigate the legends of Sasquatch, Yale–trained ecologist Dr. Robert Pyle treks into the unprotected wilderness of the Dark Divide near Mount St. Helens, where he discovers both a giant fossil footprint and recent tracks. On the trail of what he thought was legend, he searches out Indians who tell him of an outcast tribe, the Seeahtiks, who had not fully evolved into humans. A handful of open–minded biologists and anthropologists counter the tabloids Pyle studies, while rogue Forest Service employees and loggers swear of a vast conspiracy to deep–six true stories of unknown, upright hominoid apes among us. He attends Sasquatch Daze, where he meets scientists, hunters, and others who have devoted their lives to the search, only to realize that “these guys don't want to find Bigfoot―they want to be Bigfoot!” Where Bigfoot Walks was the inspiration for the 2020 film The Dark Divide, starring David Cross and Debra Messing. Since the book’s original publication, Pyle’s fresh experiences and findings have been added to his original work through an updated chapter. With an evaluation of recent DNA evidence from Bigfoot hair and scat, the study of speech phonemes in the “Sierra Sounds” purported Bigfoot recordings, an examination of the impact of the wildly popular Animal Planet series Bigfoot Hunters, the reemergence of the famous Bob Gimlin into the Bigfoot community, and more, Walking With Bigfoot keeps every Bigfoot enthusiast’s mind wide open to one of the biggest questions in the land and brings Pyle’s work on the “legend” of Bigfoot into the new century.

Book excerpt: This collection of Sasquatch encounters includes several reports that took longer than usual to complete, due to additional correspondence to confirm through additional witnesses and other sources; some heretofore unreported instances of questionable relationships between our story submitters' and their Bigfoot acquaintances. An example of the necessity we felt to confirm some of the more unusual reports, was the person who purchased a rural property and from the outset, he experienced an encounter with some resident Sasquatch which was quite unpleasant. According to the submitter, he was pestered and harassed by these creatures until it came down to a violent confrontation causing him to use a firearm. There were no injuries, but he learned too late how to relate to these resident Sasquatch and he sold the home and property and returned to the city. Another couple had back-to-back encounters with Sasquatch and they report how the clever Bigfoot actually changed their methods of disguising their presence, by using tree branches to erase their own tracks to their secret fishing hole in the Washington state mountains. Forced to abandon their second excursion by a sudden forest fire, our reports had the experience of a lifetime. Another submitter inherited a lakeshore cabin in Michigan, and once again was reunited with Sasquatch he had first met as a child when visiting his grandfather. Both human and Sasquatch were reunited over the gravesite of the grandfather's golden Labrador companion, whom both human and Sasquatch shared memories. This collection seems to share a common thread of closer involvement between species than most, and even though the research required more checks and balances, we thoroughly enjoyed sharing our submitters' excitement.

I highly recommend this book!” —Loren Coleman, author and founder of the International Cryptozoology Museum “Refreshing, thoughtful, thoroughly entertaining! Dupler is an experienced investigator who addresses many facets of the Sasquatch phenomenon.” —Ken Gerhard, cryptozoologist and author of Encounters with Flying Humanoids On the Trail of Bigfoot is a firsthand account from paranormal researcher and skilled outdoorsman Mike Dupler on his many years of investigations into the Bigfoot phenomena. It features his own encounters with these enigmatic creatures, complete with photographs. This plainspoken guide explores a variety of fascinating aspects of the Bigfoot mystery: Whether Bigfoot are interdimensional beings or biological—or both The similarities and disparities between the Sasquatch phenomena and other paranormal manifestations (fairies, wild men, Mothman, and the strange events at the notorious Skinwalker Ranch) Bigfoot’s origins and their place on the primate evolutionary tree On the Trail of Bigfoot also offers compelling theories as to the origins and arrival of Bigfoot in North America. Unique to this book is a detailed examination of stick structures attributed to Sasquatch, providing a wealth of information and reasoned speculation on the nature of these enigmatic calling cards that serve as haunting reminders of Bigfoot’s presence. Other evidence examined provides insight into possible communication techniques, such as tree knocks and perhaps even a spoken language, and an exploration of the implications of Bigfoot’s social interactions and higher intelligence.

Book excerpt: In this landmark work on a subject too often dismissed as paranormal or disreputable, Jeff Meldrum gives us the first book on sasquatch to be written by a scientist with impeccable academic credentials, an objective look at the facts in a field mined with hoaxes and sensationalism. Meldrum reports on the work of a team of experts from a wide variety of fields who were assembled to examine the evidence for a large, yet undiscovered, North American primate. He reviews the long history of this mystery--which long predates the "bigfoot" flap of the late fifties--and explains all the scientific pros and cons in a clear and accessible style, amplified by over 150 illustrations. Anyone who has pondered the mysteries of human evolution will be fascinated and eager to join Dr. Meldrum in drawing their own conclusion. Book excerpt: "Michael McLeod doesn't simply debunk hoaxes; he critically, but sympathetically, explores the motivations that have driven the 'Bigfoot community' to build an enormous and intricate, if ramshackle, edifice of lore. McLeod has written an anatomy of mythology with implications that go beyond the Bigfoot phenomenon. The Bigfoot mythologists' strange, colorful, and sometimes comical, personalities play a big part of this compulsively readable story."—David Rains Wallace, author of The Klamath Knot: Explorations of Myth and Evolution "In the same way that dinosaurs and other exotic beasts from Earth's distant and hazy past inspire and fascinate many of us, Bigfoot has captured the imagination of generations of Americans. Here, Michael McLeod approaches the 'Bigfoot phenomenon' in the same way that a detective would follow leads at a crime scene. The result is a delicious case study of human obsession and the fuzzy border between science and pseudoscience."—Chris Beard, author of The Hunt for the Dawn Monkey: Unearthing the Origins of Monkeys, Apes, and Humans

Book excerpt: Join the authors on their hikes through four Southern Oregon counties and our rugged Klamath-Siskiyou mountain wilderness that we share with Northern California. Years of hiking and exploring the mountains long rumored to be home to the elusive Sasquatch, have resulted in a hiking guide like no other! Connect online with over 1800 color photos of their hikes and excursions and use the driving directions and GPS coordinates to choose your adventures. The first hiking book was so successful that by request, the authors have added actual Sasquatch sightings and encounters submitted by their readers and other local Bigfoot enthusiasts. 43 hikes and another 38 historic places of interest with photos of almost all destinations are included. Also included due to overwhelming requests by readers of their first hiking guide, are actual Bigfoot encounters and sightings reported by hikers, campers, gold miners and residents. You will also read about the historic records of the "Almeda Mine Murders." This story was brought to life by research into old records by the noted author, Zane Grey, who had a cabin on the Rogue River not far from the site where the miners were killed by "mysterious apelike creatures!" Read about the Sasquatch that killed a huge cougar by ripping its head and tail off, which according to local officials, is a customary trait of the Bigfoot likely due to its fear of the lions; and the resident gold miner who had a one ton boulder pushed onto his storage shed at his claim; and many more tales of these close encounters of the "wild kind!" Hike into one of America's few remaining wilderness areas, and you may also come to understand why the authors' started their journey as critical of any possibility of Sasquatch, and now they agree that, "with the vast amount of wilderness areas that no human has ever touched, combined with several unexplainable occurrences, ' the possibility that Bigfoot creatures exist certainly would explain a lot of things, and it's entirely believable now that we've been in its beautiful home!" They ask that you treat its home with respect and tread lightly while you enjoy your visit!
