Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical theory of control became a ?eld of study half a century ago in attempts to clarify and organize some challenging practical problems and the methods used to solve them. It is known for the breadth of the mathematics it uses and its cross-disciplinary vigor. Its literature, which can befoundinSection93ofMathematicalReviews,wasatonetimedominatedby the theory of linear control systems, which mathematically are described by linear di?erential equations forced by additive control inputs. That theory led to well-regarded numerical and symbolic computational packages for control analysis and design. Nonlinear control problems are also important; in these either the - derlying dynamical system is nonlinear or the controls are applied in a n- additiveway.Thelastfourdecadeshaveseenthedevelopmentoftheoretical work on nonlinear control problems based on di?erential manifold theory, nonlinear analysis, and several other mathematical disciplines. Many of the problems that had been solved in linear control theory, plus others that are new and distinctly nonlinear, have been addressed; some resulting general de?nitions and theorems are adapted in this book to the bilinear case.

Book Synopsis Random-Like Multiple Objective Decision Making by : Jiuping Xu
Download or read book Random-Like Multiple Objective Decision Making written by Jiuping Xu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-25 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the random-like phenomena that can be found everywhere in real-life world? When carrying out a random sampling survey on the traffic situation, we often obtain some descriptive results such as approximately expedite, a little crowded and so on, therefore, the average level should be regarded as the random fuzzy phenomenon, which is one of the random-like phenomena. Decision makers usually need to make the decision for these problems with random-like phenomena. Which model should be constructed for them? How should we handle these models to find the optimal strategy? How can we apply these models to solve real-life problems with random-like phenomena? In order to answer these questions, this book provides an up-to-date methodology system 5MRP for random-like multiple objective decision making, which includes problem system with random-like phenomena, model system with random-like coefficients, research system with random-like uncertain methods. Some practical applications are also provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology system. Researchers, practitioners and students in systems science, economics, mathematics, information, engineering and MS/OR will get a lot of useful references from this research monograph.

Book excerpt: This sequel to volume 19 of Handbook on Statistics on Stochastic Processes: Modelling and Simulation is concerned mainly with the theme of reviewing and, in some cases, unifying with new ideas the different lines of research and developments in stochastic processes of applied flavour. This volume consists of 23 chapters addressing various topics in stochastic processes. These include, among others, those on manufacturing systems, random graphs, reliability, epidemic modelling, self-similar processes, empirical processes, time series models, extreme value therapy, applications of Markov chains, modelling with Monte Carlo techniques, and stochastic processes in subjects such as engineering, telecommunications, biology, astronomy and chemistry. particular with modelling, simulation techniques and numerical methods concerned with stochastic processes. The scope of the project involving this volume as well as volume 19 is already clarified in the preface of volume 19. The present volume completes the aim of the project and should serve as an aid to students, teachers, researchers and practitioners interested in applied stochastic processes.
Book Synopsis New Trends in Optimal Filtering and Control for Polynomial and Time-Delay Systems by : Michael Basin
Download or read book New Trends in Optimal Filtering and Control for Polynomial and Time-Delay Systems written by Michael Basin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-09-18 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 0. 1 Introduction Although the general optimal solution of the ?ltering problem for nonlinear state and observation equations confused with white Gaussian noises is given by the Kushner equation for the conditional density of an unobserved state with respect to obser- tions (see [48] or [41], Theorem 6. 5, formula (6. 79) or [70], Subsection 5. 10. 5, formula (5. 10. 23)), there are a very few known examples of nonlinear systems where the Ku- ner equation can be reduced to a ?nite-dimensional closed system of ?ltering eq- tions for a certain number of lower conditional moments. The most famous result, the Kalman-Bucy ?lter [42], is related to the case of linear state and observation equations, where only two moments, the estimate itself and its variance, form a closed system of ?ltering equations. However, the optimal nonlinear ?nite-dimensional ?lter can be - tained in some other cases, if, for example, the state vector can take only a ?nite number of admissible states [91] or if the observation equation is linear and the drift term in the 2 2 state equation satis?es the Riccati equation df /dx + f = x (see [15]). The complete classi?cation of the “general situation” cases (this means that there are no special - sumptions on the structure of state and observation equations and the initial conditions), where the optimal nonlinear ?nite-dimensional ?lter exists, is given in [95].
