The Holy Spirit empowers us, guides us, and enables us to grow and endure in our relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ. Often the most misunderstood member of the Trinity, the person of the Spirit continues to attract attention today amidst church revivals and renewals. In this new edition of his classic Keep in Step with the Spirit, J. I. Packer seeks to help Christians reaffirm the biblical call to holiness and the Spirit s role in keeping our covenant with God. Packer guides us through the riches and depth of the Spirit s work, assesses versions of holiness and the charismatic life, and shows how Christ must always be at the centre of true Spirit-led ministry. A new chapter explores Christian assurance. With abiding relevance and significance, Keep in Step with the Spirit sets forth vital knowledge for healthy and joyous Christian living, through understanding and experience of God the Holy Spirit. Here is a book for every serious believer to read and re-read.

Excerpt: ... present standing with God, and our Father, and the place of the Church, owning this by his operation through grace, in contrast with the world, who rejected Jesus as the Son of God Hence, although the obedient disciples of the Lord Jesus were the instruments of the testimony, yet these are dropped as regards the testimony in the first instance; and the subject spoken of is, the Comforter's testimony in a conviction of the world. He is present as the witness of the glory of Christ; that is, as the abiding power of the dispensation, the necessary character of the testimony of his very presence in the world was this--that He was come in condemnation of the whole world before God; for it had rejected the Son whom the Father had sent in love to it. He had said, "I have yet one Son," and they had cast Him out--not merely Jews were in question, the world had done it--man had done it: "He was despised and rejected of men." Every grace of God, every righteousness of man, had been shewn in the Son of God; they had seen no beauty in Him that they should desire Him. Nay more, as the Lord had distinctly shewn of the world, they had both seen and hated both Him and the Father--hated Him, blessed and perfect in his ways, without a cause! As it is the direct testimony of the presence of the Holy Ghost, convicting the world of sin in its rejection of Jesus, and of the Father's reception and owning of Him as his Son, and consequent judgment, the disciples (not yet properly the Church) are entirely omitted; but as regards them in detail, the great principle of obedience, being the ground of blessing, is preserved in the 14th chapter, where this point is spoken of--" If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you a...

Book Synopsis The Other Hand of God by : Kilian McDonnell
Download or read book The Other Hand of God written by Kilian McDonnell and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the Spirit is not equal to the Father and the Son, can the Trinity survive? Is the role of the Spirit in salvation as important as that of the Son? Why was the divinity of the Spirit problematic in the early Church? If the Son, Jesus Christ, is "the way the truth and the life," what role does the Spirit have in God's reaching out to touch the Church and the world? Is there any contact with, any experience of God, apart from the Spirit? In what sense is the Spirit the goal of the Christian life? The Other Hand of God addresses these theological queries. Chapters are "To Do Pneumatology is to Do Trinity," "Struggling with Ambiguity," "The Way of Doxology," "To Do Pneumatology is to Do Eschatology," "Movement Toward Fixity: Holy Spirit in Patristic Eschatology," "To Do Pneumatology Is to Start at the Beginning," "No Unified Vision in the New Testament," "Losing the Battle to Stay with the Imprecision of the Scriptures," "The Mission of the Spirit: Junior Grade?" "God Beyond the Self of God," "The Return: The Highway Back to the Father," "The Spirit Is the Touch of God," "The Tradition of Subordinationism," "Basil: Not Subordination but Communion of Life with the Father and the Son," "Gregory Nazianzus: The Divine Pedagogy in Steps," "The Council of Constantinople: The Triumph of Discretion," "To Do Pneumatology is to Start with Experience," "Experience of the Spirit in the Early Church," "William of St. Thierry: 'So I May Know by experience,' " "Bernard of Clairvaux: 'Today We Read in the Book of Experience,' " "The Role of Pneumatology in an Integral Theology," "The Continuing Quest for a Theology of the Holy Spirit," and "Toward a Theology in the Holy Spirit" Kilian McDonnell, OSB, STD, a monk and priest of St. John's Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota, is the founder and the president of the Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research in Collegeville. Book Synopsis The Holy Spirit's Work In Salvation by : Arthur W. Pink
Download or read book The Holy Spirit's Work In Salvation written by Arthur W. Pink and published by Felipe chavarro. This book was released on with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arthur W. Pink (1886-1952) In this booklet A. W. Pink examines the following aspects of the Holy Spirit’s work in salvation: regenerating, quickening, enlightening, convicting, comforting, drawing, and working faith. His biblical insights regarding the first (regeneration) and the last (faith) are particularly valuable today because these two areas are frequently misunderstood by modern evangelicals. Regeneration, for example, is believed by many to be the result of one’s “decision for Christ.” But as Pink shows, regeneration precedes repentance and belief. Likewise—and also unlike what many believe today—faith is not something that can be produced at will, but is a gift of God given by the Holy Spirit. It is sometimes lamented that the Holy Spirit is the “forgotten” member of the Trinity; but forgotten or not, it is always profitable to study the Spirit’s work, especially His role in salvation as presented in this booklet.
