This book was released on 1978 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report investigates the scattering of electromagnetic waves by a perfectly conducting object. The incident field is assumed to be time harmonic and the scatterer a closed bounded Lyapunov surface with no holes. A boundary integral equation for the total field (incident plus scattered) is derived using an integral representation of the total field analogous to Green's formula. The proof that this boundary integral equation can be solved by iteration rests on showing that the spectral radius of the resulting integral operator is less than one for small perturbations of the corresponding potential operator. Abstract: Surface integral equation (SIE) method with the kernel of layered medium Green's function (LMGF) is investigated in details from several fundamental aspects. A novel implementation of discrete complex image method (DCIM) is developed to accelerate the evaluation of Sommerfeld integrals and especially improve the far field accuracy of the conventional one. To achieve a broadband simulation of thin layered structure such as microstrip antennas, the mixed-form thin-stratified medium fast-multipole algorithm (MF-TSM-FMA) is developed by applying contour deformation and combining the multipole expansion and plane wave expansion into a single multilevel tree. The low frequency breakdown of the integral operator is further studied and remedied by using the loop-tree decomposition and the augmented electric field integral equation (A-EFIE), both in the context of layered medium integration kernel. All these methods are based on the EFIE for the perfect electric conductor (PEC) and hence can be applied in antenna and circuit applications. To model general dielectric or magnetic objects, the layered medium Green's function based on pilot vector potential approach is generalized for both electric and magnetic current sources. The matrix representation is further derived and the corresponding general SIE is setup. Finally, this SIE is accelerated with the DCIM and applied in quantum optics, such as the calculation of spontaneous emission enhancement of a quantum emitter embedded in a layered structure and in the presence of nano scatterers. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a novel single source surface electric field integral equation (EFIE) for the full-wave scattering problems by homogeneous dielectric objects and magneto-quasi-static characterization of the multiconductor transmission lines (MTLs) to determine inductance and resistance. Both the low and higher order method of moments (MoM) schemes are developed for numerical solution of this novel equation. The required theorems and derivations are given in detail. Numerical validations of this equation are conducted for various formulations such as scalar and vector 2D scattering problems, full-wave 3D scattering problems, and the problems of current flow in the 2D conductors of complex cross-sections. Error controllability of the numerically computed fields confirms that the proposed equation is rigorous in nature and may be an advantageous alternative to the other known single and double source surface integral equations (SIEs). The proposed single source integral equation (SSIE) features only electric type Green's functions, which distinguishes it from the previously know SSIE formulations. As such the new equation can be formulated in the form free of derivatives acting on the kernels. The new SSIE also features only one unknown surface function instead of two unknown functions as featured in the traditional SIEs. Unlike previously known single source surface integral equations derived through restricting of the single source field representation with surface equivalence principle, the new equation is obtained by constraining of the such representation with the volume equivalence principle. As a result, the new equation features integral operators that translate the fields from the surface of the scatterer to its volume and then back to its surface, lending it the name of Surface-Volume-Surface Electric Field Integral Equation (SVS-EFIE).

This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hierarchical (H)-matrix acceleration method plays important role in electromagnetic analysis of large-scale problems. This thesis is about fast direct solution of 3-D full-wave scattering and radiation problems with H-matrix acceleration of the method of moments (MoM) for the novel surface-volume-surface electric field integral equation (SVS-EFIE) and the Locally Corrected Nystrom (LCN) method for traditional magnetic field integral equation (MFIE). Two new formulations of the SVS-EFIE are proposed. First, new SVS-EFIE formulation is developed for the scattering and radiation problems on metal-dielectric composite objects with arbitrary number of regions situated in free space. Second, new SVS-EFIE formulation is developed for scattering and radiation problems on dielectric-dielectric composite objects situated in multilayered medium. The proposed SVS-EFIE formulations introduce independent surface electric current density on the boundary of each region. Thus, in the new formulations, the scatterer regions can be meshed independently according to their local material properties. This improves the flexibility and efficiency of the proposed formulations in the analysis of both multiscale and large-scale composite structures. An H-matrix based fast direct solution strategies are proposed for acceleration of the MoM solution of the new SVS-EFIE formulations. The method is largely insensitive to the poor conditioning of the MoM matrix equation. The required theory for applying H-matrices to the new formulations as well as the construction of the block H-matrices pertinent to MoM discretization of the composite SVS-EFIE is described in detail. Numerical validation shows that the proposed methods have a wide-range of applications and generate accurate results using only the small fraction of memory and total CPU time needed by conventional MoM solution of the SVS-EFIE. Fast error-controlled direct solution of the traditional integral equations for scattering problems on metal objects with H-matrices is also pioneered in this work. The proposed strategy for acceleration of the higher-order LCN method with H-matrices exhibits O(h^p) error behavior in the fast direct solution of the scattering problems on smooth metal objects with characteristic mesh elements size h and order of solution approximation p.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electric field integral equation (EFIE) is used with the moment to develop a simple and efficient numerical procedure for treating problems of scattering by arbitrarily-shaped objects. The objects are modeled for numerical purposes by planar triangular surface patch models. Because the EFIE formulation is used, the procedure is applicable to both open and closed bodies. Crucial to the formulation is development of a set of special subdomain basis functions defined on pairs of adjacent triangular patches. The basis functions yield a current representation which is free of line or point charges at subdomain boundaries. A second approach using the magnetic field integral equation (MFIE) and employing the same basis functions is also developed. Although the MFIE applies only to closed bodies, the moment matrix of the MFIE is also needed in dielectric scattering problems and in the so-called combined field integral equation used to eliminate difficulties with internal resonances present in the MFIE and EFIE formulations. The EFIE approach is applied to the scattering problems of plane wave illumination of a flat square plate, a bent square plate, a circular disk, and a sphere. Comparisons of surface current densities are made with previous computations or exact formulations and good agreement is obtained in each case. The MFIE approach is also applied to the sphere and reasonable agreement with exact calculations is obtained.
