Book Synopsis On the Capture of Electrons by Fast Ions by : Julian K. Knipp
Download or read book On the Capture of Electrons by Fast Ions written by Julian K. Knipp and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oppenheimer Brinkman Kramers theory of the capture of electrons by alpha particles in their passage through matter is formulated in terms of a momentum representation of the electrons. For a heavy ion carrying a core of electrons. capture is largely into excited states. Total cross sections for such ions are estimated assuming hydrogen like representations for the electron in the captured states and treating the atom from which capture takes place by the Thomas Fermi model.

Download or read book Fast Ion-atom and Ion-molecule Collisions written by Dževad Belkić and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal goal of this book is to provide state-of-the art coverage of the non-relativistic three- and four-body theories at intermediate and high energy ion-atom and ion-molecule collisions. the focus is on the most frequently studied processes: electron capture, ionization, transfer excitation and transfer ionization. the content is suitable both for graduate students and experienced researchers. for these collisions, the literature has seen enormous renewal of activity in the development and applications of quantum-mechanical theories. This subject is of relevance in several branches of science and technology, like accelerator-based physics, the search for new sources of energy and high temperature fusion of light ions. Other important applications are in life sciences via medicine, where high-energy ion beams are used in radiotherapy for which a number of storage ring accelerators are in full operation, under construction or planned to be built worldwide. Therefore, it is necessary to review this field for its most recent advances with an emphasis on the prospects for multidisciplinary applications.
Book Synopsis Basic Atomic Interactions of Accelerated Heavy Ions in Matter by : Inga Tolstikhina
Download or read book Basic Atomic Interactions of Accelerated Heavy Ions in Matter written by Inga Tolstikhina and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the recent experimental and theoretical results on interactions of heavy ions with gaseous, solid and plasma targets from the perspective of atomic physics. The topics discussed comprise stopping power, multiple-electron loss and capture processes, equilibrium and non-equilibrium charge-state fractions in penetration of fast ion beams through matter including relativistic domain. It also addresses mean charge-states and equilibrium target thickness in ion-beam penetrations, isotope effects in low-energy electron capture, lifetimes of heavy ion beams, semi-empirical formulae for effective cross sections. The book is intended for researchers and graduate students working in atomic, plasma and accelerator physics.

Book Synopsis Two-electron Capture and Loss in Fast Highly Charged Ion-atom Collisions by :
Download or read book Two-electron Capture and Loss in Fast Highly Charged Ion-atom Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-electron capture and loss processes have been investigated for highly charged ions colliding with gas targets in the energy range 0.5 to 9.0 MeV/u. Ionic species used for projectiles were S(13+), Ar(15+), Ca(12-19+), and V(18-22+); target gases used were H2, He, and Ne. Double-electron capture decreases very rapidly with increasing beam energy, and the cross sections are typically 1 to 2 orders of magnitude smaller than the single-electron capture cross sections over the energy range studied. Loss of two projectile electrons varies with the beam energy and charge state, and depends strongly on whether L- or K-shell electrons are removed. 11 refs., 3 figs.
Book Synopsis Electron Emission in Heavy Ion-Atom Collisions by : Nikolaus Stolterfoht
Download or read book Electron Emission in Heavy Ion-Atom Collisions written by Nikolaus Stolterfoht and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron EM reviews the theoretical and experimental work of the last 30 years on continuous electron emission in energetic ion-atom collisions. High incident energies for which the projectile is faster than the mean orbital velocity of the active electron are considered. Emphasis is placed on the interpretation of ionization mechanisms. They are interpreted in terms of Coulomb centers associated with the projectile and target nuclear fields which strongly interact with the outgoing electron. General properties of the two-center electron emission are analyzed. Particular attention is given to screening effects. A brief overview of multiple ionization processes is also presented. The survey concludes with a complete compilation of experimental studies of ionization cross sections.

Download or read book Electron Impact Ionization written by T.D. Märk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is perhaps surprising that a process which was one of the first to be studied on an atomic scale, and a process which first received attention over seven decades ago, continues to be the object of diverse and intense research efforts. Such is the case with the (seemingly) conceptually simple and familiar mechanism of electron impact ionization of atoms, molecules, and ions. Not only has the multi-body nature of the collision given ground to theoretical effort only grudgingly, but also the variety and subtlety of processes contributing to ionization have helped insure that progress has come only with commensurate work: no pain - no gain. Modern experimental methods have made it possible to effectively measure and explore threshold laws, differential cross sections, partial cross sections, inner-shell ionization, and the ionization of unstable species such as radicals and ions. In most instances the availability of experimental data has provided impetus and guidance for further theoretical progress.
