Book excerpt: Sanyas is the Yoga of Renunciation. The practice of sanyas or swamihood is said to be the most effective tool to obtain liberation. Swami Sivananda Radha offers a unique perspective on sanyas and how this ancient practice continues to be a relevant and living tradition in the West. Collected from her talks and writings spanning 40 years, On Sanyas is a helpful guide for all those who are interested in a life of renunciation, and for those who are already on the path. Through her own experience as a sanyasi, Swami Sivananda Radha shows what it means to renounce possessions and live on faith. She explains renunciation in daily life, initiations, guru-disciple relationships and the karmic consequences of breaking the sanyas vows. Inspirational and challenging, On Sanyas gives rare insight into a life lived in renunciation. There is more to renunciation than letting things go. It's a commitment to facing life and moving forward. It's a practice of compassion in a time when terrible things are happening in the world. It's a vow to look to each other and live a life that overcomes emotional turmoil and fear, creating a solid foundation to work with and to bring into the world. -Swami Radhananda

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life Lessons from Gitaji on New Society deals with social life with special reference to Indian way of living in introspection and the future ahead to find ways to live in peace and harmony as its age old philosophy has pronounced. The detailed history, the origins of age-old philosophy of human classification for functioning of the society has been discussed to understand the fundamentals of Indian society since Vedic period. The purpose is to understand the age-old social values still imbibed in the contemporary Indian society, which has now undergone a sea of change due to changes in social, political and economic conditions. The purpose of writing this book is to understand the undercurrent of present day’s social values so messed up in historical texts and contemporary social, political and economic conditions. The result of such phenomenon are visible through untouchability, casteism and communalism, which have cropped up due to misinterpretation of purity and hygiene (chuachut - untouchability), class system (varnashram) and equality of all religion (sarv dharm sambhaav). Besides these, the Indian society has undergone the world’s biggest migration and massacre during partition of the country on religious lines. The scar of that violence has created an atmosphere of hatred and mistrust amongst Hindus and Muslims, two vital constituents of Indian society, which would require a great amount of time and efforts to heal. We find that Indian society faces challenges that are unfolding in present times and Gitaji’s wisdom is most relevant to guide the society towards a futuristic environment with its holistic approach. We should ponder upon the challenges unfolding before the young generation and how to cope up with those and to build up a new society free from the malice of casteism, communalism and indisciplined democracy with our rich heritage and wisdom of Vedic scriptures in general and specifically the wisdom of Gitaji.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long-awaited biography of an African American avant-garde composer Alice Coltrane was a composer, improviser, guru, and widow of John Coltrane. Over the course of her musical life, she synthesized a wide range of musical genres including gospel, rhythm-and-blues, bebop, free jazz, Indian devotional song, and Western art music. Her childhood experiences playing for African-American congregations in Detroit, the ecstatic and avant-garde improvisations she performed on the bandstand with her husband John Coltrane, and her religious pilgrimages to India reveal themselves on more than twenty albums of original music for the Impulse and Warner Brothers labels. In the late 1970s Alice Coltrane became a swami, directing an alternative spiritual community in Southern California. Exploring her transformation from Alice McLeod, Detroit church pianist and bebopper, to guru Swami Turiya Sangitananda, Monument Eternal illuminates her music and, in turn, reveals the exceptional fluidity of American religious practices in the second half of the twentieth century. Most of all, this book celebrates the hybrid music of an exceptional, boundary-crossing African-American artist.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are now doing business in a global village. The sourcing of raw material, its manufacturing, selling and distribution are done, irrespective of geographical boundaries, through seamless transaction over the internet. The new style of business and economy is transcending time and space boundaries, and monetary transactions are now faceless and paperless. Needless to mention, we need to equip ourselves with updated technologies and infrastructure to cope with the new environment of doing business under a new ecosystem. Besides this qualitative change in the way of doing business, at present, another challenge is the turmoil caused by the sudden onslaught of the pandemic and the world over, the impact of COVID19 on people’s daily life continues to be terrible. We now have better medical facilities and medicines but poorer health, higher IQ and intellectual brain but poorer common sense and spiritual experience, potent weaponry to eliminate enemy in a war but poor bravery to sustain peace and statesmanship. We have twisted and wound up ourselves too much and are now unable to look at our simple life scenario with straight and simple eyes. Therefore the time has come for us to learn how we should unwind and relax ourselves to enjoy our fruits of labour that we have earned. This Book titled ‘Life Lessons from Gitaji on New Economy’ would be dealing with these issues in the light of Wisdom as explained in Gita by Bhagwan Krishna on human behaviour (Karma) in tandem (Yoga) with the Laws of the Nature. The language and approach may look somewhere out of context but that has been done purposefully to provoke its reader to think out of Box.

Even those with an encyclopedic knowledge of the Bible find it difficult to apply the Gitas practical lessons to daily living. Vijay Kumar Saxena unveils the mysteries of the text, including what it says about human nature and the supreme secret behind everything animate and inanimate in the universe. Learn what the Gita says about questions such as: Why do negative emotions often dominate our nature? Why do we behave as we behave? How can we convert our existential living into living with substance, meaning, and purpose? What is the universal truth of all religions? The author also explores whether there is a way to live life as naturally as a boat floats on a calm sea--cruising ahead and enjoying time with friends--with ample time to be who we want to be. Discover the powerful truths hidden in an ancient, sacred text and appreciate what it means to be human when you Feel the Bhagavad Gita.

Book excerpt: How could anyone find peace in something as tragic as death? Powerful gods will do terrible things, and the saying seems to be true. A single drop of blood is all it takes. Head Reaper; Titan—all titles that belong to Yugi—and he hates them. He is forced to collect souls at the brink of death, and as a Titan, he’s viewed as a traitor by the celestials. A disease known to kill past gods has returned, leaving a bloody massacre in its wake, and Yugi is forced to reap the souls. Then, the Asayli, the rulers of Xhian, ban the use of sẹda, the powers of all celestials. Without power, Yugi and his kind will never evolve to become gods, and with the disease spreading, the situation is made worse. First gain power, then become a god. But gaining power always comes with a deadly risk.

Book excerpt: As one of the first book-length collections of critical essays on the topic of asexuality, Asexualities: Feminist and Queer Perspectives became a foundational text in the burgeoning field of asexuality studies. This revised and expanded ten-year anniversary edition both celebrates the book’s impact and features new scholarship at the vanguard of the field. While this edition includes some of the most-cited original chapters, it also features critical updates as well as new, innovative work by both up-and-coming and established scholars and activists from around the world. It brings in more global perspectives on asexualities, engages intersectionally with international formations of race and racialization, critiques global capital’s effects on identity and kinship, examines how digital worlds shape lived realities, considers posthuman becomings, experiments with the form of the manifesto, and imagines love and relation in ecologies that exceed and even supersede the human. This cutting-edge, multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary book serves as a valuable resource for everyone—from those who are just beginning their critical exploration of asexualities to advanced researchers who seek to deepen their theoretical engagements with the field.
