Book Synopsis On Two Fronts - Being The Adventures Of An Indian Mule Corps In France And Gallipoli by : Major Heber Maitland Alexander
Download or read book On Two Fronts - Being The Adventures Of An Indian Mule Corps In France And Gallipoli written by Major Heber Maitland Alexander and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2014-06-13 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Men from all around the far reaches of the British Empire flooded into the ranks of the British army for the titanic struggle against Germany and her allies during the First World War. Ghurkhas from Nepal, Men of the Punjab, Rajputs, Dogras and Pathans volunteered to fight in the Indian regiments destined for service across the wide oceans in Europe. The men found warm comradeship with the Tommies who fought beside them, cold climates in Flanders and Belgium, and hellishly hot fighting against the enemy. Major Maitland was an officer in the Indian Army attached to the supply corps bringing vital arms, ammunition and food to the front-line. The job was certainly not a sinecure as the supply depots were often not out of range of the enemy’s guns, particularly at Gallipoli. He tells his story with great detail, probably based on a diary or notes that he took at the time. His book is particularly interesting regarding the hellish conditions at Gallipoli - in fact, so interesting that the official Australian Government Anzac site quotes from his book. Essential reading.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: German Army on the Eastern Front Ð The Advance is a highly illustrated record of the extraordinary feat of arms that saw the Nazi armies drive deep into the vast terrain of the Soviet Union, to the gates of Stalingrad and Moscow. It traces the campaign from these hopeful beginnings until, on the brink of victory, the defenders and the winter contrived to slow and then halt the advance. It vividly conveys the appalling conditions endured by the invaders. By early 1943 the German advance finally petered out, leaving some 1.5 million dead from the battle of Stalingrad alone. The long and costly retreat was about to begin.

Book Synopsis The Encyclopedia of Codenames of World War II (Routledge Revivals) by : Christopher Chant
Download or read book The Encyclopedia of Codenames of World War II (Routledge Revivals) written by Christopher Chant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Codenames were a vital feature of World War II, serving as mental shorthand for those in the know, and obscuring the issues for those who were not. Codenames were used from the highest level, in the planning of grand strategic moves affecting the conduct of the whole war, to the lowest command divisions, in the conduct of small-scale tactical operations. This encyclopedia, first published in 1986, removes the mystery surrounding many of the important code names from the era. With around 3,000 entries drawn from all sides – the U.K., U.S.A., Germany, the U.S.S.R. and Japan – Christopher Chant’s work provides a uniquely comprehensive and full overview of major operations, names and code words. Thorough and exciting, this key reference reissue is an exceptionally valuable resource for military historians, enthusiasts and general readers with an interest in World War II.
