Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: France in the 1800s is a brutal time to be an omega. Kept as a slave for most of his life, Dante has suffered far too much brutality, and even he would admit that the harshness of life has turned him from a civilised, obedient omega into a broken man bent on violence and revenge. However, an odd twist of fate leads to Dante being bought by Antoine, a wealthy alpha with a soft spot for brutalised omegas. He sees the potential in the suffering young man and takes him back to his estate, determined to help him recover from the cruelty of his past. But winning Dante's trust was never going to be an easy task, and even less so in a society that refuses to acknowledge that an omega could ever be anything other than a slave.

Book excerpt: I never asked to be an omega, and I never asked to be whisked away to a distant world, transformed, and hunted by aliens. But fate has brought me to Amadon, where my very existence teeters on the edge of chaos and destiny. Imprisoned by the ruthless ulgix, I'm a pawn in their scheme to obliterate this new world. Yet, when Xander, Thane, and Kael—three imposing warlords with golden skin, long black hair, and spiraling black horns—discover me, our fated bond sparks to life. Caught between fear and unyielding attraction, I must embrace my destiny alongside my mates. When I'm in heat they'll bond me, a fated connection that will either save or doom two worlds. We see Charlie's fear, her resolve to return to Earth, but we also see our salvation. On the cusp of extinction, hope surged through our veins when we discovered our omega hiding deep within the bowels of the ancient battlecruiser buried beneath the sands we call home. The ulgix's treachery fuels a desperate plan to destroy Earth. Now, with Charlie by our side, we must unite our fragmented societies, put centuries of mistrust behind us, and forge a bond with our mate strong enough to withstand the impending storm. The tides of war are rising. The ulgix's final assault looms near. Our omega's bond is the key to survival... for a planet she left behind and a new home--our home--that desperately needs her. Unless we can overcome centuries of war and animosity, our fated bond with our mate will either be the salvation of two worlds. Or our ruination. This is the fifth in the Stolen Planets series. Book Synopsis Collected Supernotational Writings Vol.II by : John O'Loughlin

This book was released on 2029-09-18 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Volume II of John O'Loughlin's collected supernotational philosophy project, he has combined the titles 'Critique of Post-Dialectical Idealism', 'Philosophical Truth', 'Veritas Philosophicus', and 'Last Judgements', which span the period 1989–93 and have allowed him to bring some kind of strict chronology to bear on a series of writings dubbed 'supernotational', to distinguish them from essays on the one hand and aphorisms on the other, thereby treading a kind of intermediate position between essays and aphorisms in the interests of what became a gradual progression towards an enhanced sense of philosophical logic commensurate, so we believe, with 'Supertruth' and, ultimately, a kind of plateau of aphoristic purism which took shape in the ensuing years. – A Centretruths Editorial
Book Synopsis Fix-It Fics: Challenging the Status Quo through Fan Fiction by : Kaitlin Tonti
Download or read book Fix-It Fics: Challenging the Status Quo through Fan Fiction written by Kaitlin Tonti and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past ten years, fan fiction has outgrown its perceived taboo, as made by the public, and has evolved into a legitimate form of writing and self-expression. Academics, too, have recognized the potential for fan fiction studies through the lens of the humanities, psychology, sociology, and gender and queer studies. What makes 'Fix-It Fics: Challenging the Status Quo through Fanfiction' unique is in its specific focus on the fan fiction subgenre: fix-it fics. Also known in fan fiction communities as the fix-it, fans writing in this subgenre are motivated by fixing what they believe the original creators did not get right the first time. More significantly, fix-it fic writers generally use their prose to fix the unaddressed biases that are perpetuated on their favorite character, or plot lines, by either the original creator or other fans. The fix-it fic has existed for some time; however, it was after J.K. Rowling’s degrading remarks about the transgender community that fix-it fic writers clearly saw themselves as the only ones who could challenge the prejudices associated with their fandoms. The essay featured in this book reflects on the fix-it fic as an outlet for self-advocacy and community activism through the written word. Chapters in this book focus on fandoms including but not limited to Supernatural, Harry Potter, Wentworth, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Hannibal, Star Trek, and Batman, while also addressing topics such as the Omegaverse, healing trauma, and creating community archives. 'Fix-It Fics: Challenging the Status Quo through Fanfiction' will appeal to popular culture, sociology, and gender and queer studies scholars who are invested in the larger academic conversation and offers an array of essays that any college professor teaching popular culture will surely benefit from including in their courses.

Book Synopsis Who's Black and Why? by : Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Download or read book Who's Black and Why? written by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A fascinating, if disturbing, window onto the origins of racism." --Publishers Weekly "The eighteenth-century essays published for the first time in Who's Black and Why? contain a world of ideas--theories, inventions, and fantasies--about what blackness is, and what it means. To read them is to witness European intellectuals, in the age of the Atlantic slave trade, struggling, one after another, to justify atrocity." --Jill Lepore, author of These Truths: A History of the United States The first translation and publication of sixteen submissions to the notorious eighteenth-century Bordeaux essay contest on the cause of black skin--an indispensable chronicle of the rise of scientifically based, anti-Black racism. In 1739 Bordeaux's Royal Academy of Sciences announced a contest for the best essay on the sources of "blackness." What is the physical cause of blackness and African hair, and what is the cause of Black degeneration, the contest announcement asked. Sixteen essays, written in French and Latin, were ultimately dispatched from all over Europe. The authors ranged from naturalists to physicians, theologians to amateur savants. Documented on each page are European ideas about who is Black and why. Looming behind these essays is the fact that some four million Africans had been kidnapped and shipped across the Atlantic by the time the contest was announced. The essays themselves represent a broad range of opinions. Some affirm that Africans had fallen from God's grace; others that blackness had resulted from a brutal climate; still others emphasized the anatomical specificity of Africans. All the submissions nonetheless circulate around a common theme: the search for a scientific understanding of the new concept of race. More important, they provide an indispensable record of the Enlightenment-era thinking that normalized the sale and enslavement of Black human beings. These never previously published documents survived the centuries tucked away in Bordeaux's municipal library. Translated into English and accompanied by a detailed introduction and headnotes written by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Andrew Curran, each essay included in this volume lays bare the origins of anti-Black racism and colorism in the West.

Book Synopsis Misguided Notions by : Garrett Williams
Download or read book Misguided Notions written by Garrett Williams and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-07-22 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Americas public schools are in decline and in need of urgent reform. Once the envy of the entire world, the American public school system now struggles to keep pace with other industrialized nations and is falling further behind with each passing decade. This disturbing trend raises two important questions: Why did our schools decline? What must we do to make our schools great again? To answer these questions, Misguided Notions goes back to the roots of human civilization and retraces the development of education over the last ten thousand years. Along the way, a wise reformer offers warnings based on his eyewitness accounts of the collapses of historys greatest civilizations. The evidence is clear: when schools discard tried and proven principles of education and when society abandons its core values, both will collapse. The commonsense solutions offered in Misguided Notions combine proven old-school educational principles with the advantages of modern technology. Teachers, principals, school board members, parents, community leaders, and politicians perplexed by the lack of answers to the current dilemma in public education can find enlightenment in Misguided Notions.
