Book excerpt: Stephen Philip Cohen can rightly be called the doyen of South Asian security analysis, especially traditional security concerns in the region and advocacy on US foreign policy. The contributors to the volume have all, at different at different points in time, been Cohen’s students, and are now well-known scholars in their own right. Broadly dividing Cohen’s work into categories, the contributors deal with the following issues: how security is understood and how important strategic relationships are framed approaches to and choices made in the areas of military structure, arms production, and investment in science and technology how and why civil society groups are mobilized towards political ends—specifically looking at ethnic mobilization in diaspora communities, non-official initiatives for peace in South Asia, and the role of state and non-state actors in disaster management the role of the army. The essays reflect a view of security as something people choose to make for themselves through an exercise of agency that is rooted in the realm of ideas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While translation history in Canada is well documented, the history of the translation of Canadian fiction outside the nation remains obscure. Les Belles Étrangères examines the translation of Canadian English-language fiction in France. This book considers the history of this practice, the reasons for the move away from Quebec translators as well as the process and perils involved in this detour. Within a theoretical framework and drawing on primary sources, this study considers the historical, theoretical, and concrete aspects of this practice through the study of the translations of authors such as Robertson Davies, Carol Shields, Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje, Ann-Marie MacDonald, and Alistair MacLeod. The book also includes a comprehensive bibliography of English-language novels, poetry, and plays published and translated in France over the past 240 years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Truth about Olive Oil Benefits – Curing Methods -- Remedies Forward by Jim Henry President Texas Olive Ranch Executive Director Texas Olive Oil Council The Truth about Olive Oil is NOT a cook book. There are no recipes for cooking in the Mediterranean style. There are no pizza recipes. If anything, you could say this book is about a celebration of the benefits the lowly little olive showers on those who embrace its many flavors and colors by using it – both internally (by eating it) and externally (by rubbing it on their skin and in their hair). Its health giving benefits (anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties) are legendary and can be traced back to its earliest uses well before the time of Christ. In the pages of this book, I hope to stimulate further interest in the use of olives and olive oil by presenting various “how to do it” scenarios that are practical and fun. For instance, making table olives is an easy and fun thing to do that takes very little actual “doing” on your part. Most of the curing time can be spent by your doing other things while the curing medium does the job of making the fruit edible. I provide specific instructions on how to do this. And what about getting olives from your own tree(s) pressed so you can enjoy home-grown olive oil? You might think that only commercial growers can do this. Well, I found two commercial olive oil processors who will accept your smaller loads of olives, combine them with other small loads, do the pressing and the bottling and return the resultant oil to you on a prorated basis. In addition, I tell you about the various grades of olive oil and what they mean to you in terms of their nutritional value. I think you’ll be quite surprised at what you discover. The external uses of olive oil (and some internal uses as well) all involve using this liquid as a form of folk remedy. It’s a skin lotion to soothe rough chapped elbows or lips; it’s a diaper rash cure; it’s a massage oil for easing aches and pains; it’s a lot of things and we’ve only just scratched the surface. There are more inside the book. What you’ll get out of reading this book is a greater appreciation for this elixir that can enhance your life and health in ways you may never even have thought of. Other information about The Truth About Olive Oil Genre – cooking, Mediterranean, low cholesterol Tags -- olive oil nutrition, benefits of olive oil, curing olives, olive oil benefits, does olive oil go bad, olive oil for skin, extra virgin olive oil Reviews -- The Truth About Olive Oil was originally published in August of 2012. Since then it has accrued many wonderful reviews by its Amazon purchasers and currently (Dec. 7, 2013) sports an overall 4 stars from 12 reviews. Here is an excerpt from inside this book (not the same as the “Look Inside This Book” excerpt: . . . Nothing in Nature is “pure”! Ordinarily we automatically think of “pure” as a good thing, so when discussing “pure” in relation to things we put in our mouths and swallow, it may be difficult to turn our thinking 180° and realize that, if we need edibles to be as close to Nature as possible, and we do, we don’t want “pure”. “Pure” = no health benefits – no enzymes – no phytochemicals – no micro-nutrients. In other words, to borrow a concept from my other book (How to Eat Healthy), “pure” = pica, a non-nutritious edible that may change how the cells use food. -- End of Excerpt --

Book excerpt: The birds are behaving in a strange manner. Two black crows, messengers from the Old Kingdom, arrive to tell Miss Jay and her team that an ancient curse is still active. In order to lift the curse and bring healing to the Earth and All Life, they must solve a riddle in just four days. How is Miss Jay connected to this curse? What is the secret of the Dragon Tooth brooch worn by Cassandra, Pallas Athena, and Miss Jay's ancestors? How can the friends bring healing across bloodlines? In their search for these answers, Bindi, Biggles, Kooky, Vargo, Master Zen and Miss Jay embark on an exciting journey, starting from a small island near Tasmania, where all that is large appears small. From there, they travel to Greece to meet with the ancient gods and Th emis, the oracle of Delphi. In the magical canyons of Sedona, Arizona, they seek out a wise elder with the secrets of shape-shifting, dance, and the medicine wheel. Eventually, their search takes them to Africa. Along the Zambezi River, they meet Oshun, goddess of water, who summons truth from the water itself. Miss Jay learns why she left the Dragons, who Bindi really is, and why they have been brought together. Can the friends work together on this next phase of ascension to bring through the new energy of the New Earth? Can they heal the bloodlines and balance the masculine and feminine energy? Will they ever be free, happy, and at peace?

Book excerpt: BY THE AUTHOR OF INTERSTATE, WINNER OF THE STANFORD DOLMAN TRAVEL BOOK OF THE YEAR Ten years after breaking a world record for cycling around the world, award-winning travel writer Julian Sayarer returns to two wheels on the roads of Israel and occupied Palestine. His route weaves from the ancient hills of Galilee, along the blockaded walls of the Gaza Strip and down to the Bedouin villages of the Naqab Desert. He speaks with Palestinian hip-hop artists who wonder if music can change their world, Israelis hoping that kibbutz life can, and Palestinian cycling clubs determined to keep on riding despite the army checkpoints and settlers that bar their way. Pedalling through a military occupation, in the chance encounters of the roadside, a bicycle becomes a vehicle of more than just travel, and cuts through the tension to find a few simple truths, and some hope. As the miles pass, the journey becomes a meditation on making change - how people in dark times keep their spirit, and go on believing that a different world is possible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All in all, Author WCY is founder of the National Reparation Reformation & Annexation movement, historian, and Social Engineer of the 21st Century. His work collaborate family history with American history, world history, current affairs, and bible history from the perspective of truth. African American Historian Dr. Jim Horton declared: "if you tell the story of the American experience known as American history and leave out African American history then American history is incomplete." Therefore, WCY's work is a correction of American history b/c the history that the baby boomer generation learned in school was about wars, economics, and dead white men which undermined the deeds of African Americans. Although WCY is into politics, he is not a politician. He is a salesman that's selling 100 U.S. senate seats for $177.00 each and is trying to spark the biggest real estate deal in American history since the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 that will tear down Trump's wall via annexation of North America, preserve the continuity of the American Dream and bring in Mexico, Cuba, Canada & USA territories into the union as states which means a new white suburbs on the white sandy beaches of Mexico, Guam, and Puerto Rico. After all, white people without suburbs are like fish without a sea. As a congressional informer, consumer protector, and whistle blower, WCY's reports are on record and are reported to the U.S. Senate Homeland Committee on Governmental Affairs, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security and the president of the USA. In Case No. 12-01189-CV-W-REL in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri according to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Bill summoned the regional directors of the U.S. Census Bureau to court to explain their methodology and how they arrived at the conclusion on the 2010 Census that the USA population was 310 million with the majority race being white, and the directors were a NO SHOW which means pursuant to Rule 12 of Fed. R. Civ. If you fail to respond, judgment by default will be entered against the defendants. Bill Young won the case by default, but U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, II refused to pay Bill and had the case DISMISSED which resulted in Holder's forced resignation as U.S. Attorney General. Holder's suppression of the truth via having case dismissed covered up the fact that the majority USA population is Hispanic and not white which means Americans in the 21st Century have become slaves to lies, but after they read WCY's work (THE WHOLE TRUTH) then the truth shall set them free. However, to get to the hill of truth, WCY's book will navigate his readers through the valley of 200 years of lies and the 116th Congress whom are the largest group of liars that has ever been assembled together in one place in America's 244 years of American history.

A disorder that few discuss due to its controversial nature. Colello and her husband’s second child was to be a boy, but biologically and chromosomally, her son was really her daughter, their Faith. As parents, they then needed to make a myriad of difficult decisions to ensure the best life for their daughter, from surgery to future medications she will need for the rest of her life. Infused with reflection, honesty, and humor, Colello shares her journey so other parents may know they are not alone in this. About the Author Kaye Colello is a middle school teacher who has written the curriculum for an anti-bias/diversity class that melds with English. Additionally, she also works with the Anti-Defamation League to be a voice in the community, working with people, understanding them, and listening to each other’s stories to help them work through their needs and understandings. She works tirelessly for social justice, equality, diversity, and human rights. Colello’s husband Joey is currently wrapping up his lifelong career in management and enjoys working at home on the family farm. Colello’s daughters, Ruth and Faith, are grown now. Ruth is currently pursuing her PhD in political science. Faith is a junior and is studying for a degree in Digital Media and Design, with a concentration on game design. She also produces music and works as a singer in her spare time. In her spare time, Colello enjoys teaching hula and performing in public places with her group where she can watch Faith sing.
