Book Synopsis Religious Conversion by : Sarah Claerhout
Download or read book Religious Conversion written by Sarah Claerhout and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-05-06 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book re-examines the issue of religious conversion, which has been a site of conflict in India for several centuries. It discusses wide-ranging themes such as conversion, education, and reform in colonial India; the process and practices of conversion in Christian Europe; Gandhi, conversion, and the equality of religions; perspectives from Hindu nationalism, secularism, and religious minorities; religious freedom and the limits of propagating religion; and conversion in constitutional law, commissions, and courts, to chart new directions for research on religion, tradition, and conversion. Tracing developments from the 19th-century colonial era to contemporary times, the book analyses cultural background frameworks and the origins of religious conversion and its conceptualisation in Western Christianity. It further delves into how Indian culture and its traditions have shaped responses to conversion. Part of the Critical Humanities Across Cultures series, this book will be useful to scholars and researchers of critical humanities, religion, cultural studies, sociology of religion, comparative religion, philosophy, anthropology, theology, Indology, history, politics, postcolonial studies, critical theory, and South Asian studies.

Book Synopsis Colonial Landmarks in Mysuru by : Gouri Satya
Download or read book Colonial Landmarks in Mysuru written by Gouri Satya and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2020-07-19 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many British dignitaries visited Mysore during the period of the Maharajas, from Lord Wellesley, who fought against Tipu Sultan, to Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, who visited Mysore soon after India became independent. There are landmarks built by the Maharajas to commemorate the visits of some of these dignitaries, and also to mark celebrations related to them. Some landmarks relate to the Europeans who were in Mysore during the period of the Wadiyars. Although we may be familiar with these places or structures, we know little about these men and their visits to Mysore. This book is an attempt to highlight their visits, recall their contributions and how the Maharajas of Mysore accorded royal receptions to them. This book is also a record of the British personalities – Commissioners, Viceroys, Princes, and Residents – and throws light on the administration of the Mysore State of over a century and a half, from 1799 to 1957. In all, 15 landmarks of the British era in Mysore have been covered in this book, beginning from the earliest. As far as we know, no attempt has been made to bring these landmarks in one book.

Download or read book Syzygy written by Tau Palamas and published by . This book was released on 2015-11-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two worlds of Voudon and Gnosis merged together within the unique expression of a religious community called the Monastery of the Seven Rays. Having a history that is as colorful and mysterious as the variety of individuals involved in this esoteric movement of the spirit, the Monastery stands apart from traditional expressions of monasticism in the East and in the West by existing on a physical plane, but more especially by also being a psycho-spiritual locale, accessible to all who knock upon her celestial doors. For each Postulant of this Monastery there is a particular work to do, a particular Gnostic space to dwell within, and a particular sacred injunction to fulfill for the betterment of the globe. SYZYGY by Tau Palamas is one such legacy. It is simply the reflections of one student of this delightful and challenging superstructure of mind-stuff--The Monastery of the Seven Rays. "This true Labor of Love offers one of the best introductions to our School and Work that we've read. From the curious seeker to the seasoned Pilgrim on the Path, there is guidance and illumination in this volume which will speak time and again to the deepest levels of spiritual longing...With gratitude to Tau Palamas, we whole heartedly recommend SYZYGY as one of the best books of the year!" Kyle Fite, SGM, Ordo Templi Orientis Antiqua & La Couleuvre Noire "A wonderful exposition and elaboration of the Monastery of Seven Rays material through the eyes of a true modern-day Christian mystic! I highly recommend it to anyone studying the work of Michael Bertiaux, but the Opus stands alone in that you could create a system of Work from this book alone! For those interested in Martinism and Ecclesiastical Gnosticism this book is also of great value, and certainly compliments the work of L'Ordre Martinesiste de Chenu (it is on the reading list)! Highly recommended! Kevin Davis, Sov. Insp. V, Ordre Martinesiste de Chenu"
