Book Synopsis The Travel Experience by : Errol Shaw
Download or read book The Travel Experience written by Errol Shaw and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-07-21 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I first started traveling, I was unprepared for the experiences that were about to unfold. My only hope was to get a better understanding of the many cultures that makes the world such a unique place. I also have a great love for people and wanted to meet as many people as I possibly could. That experience did come to light as I move from one part of the globe to another. I can honestly say that of all the countries I have traveled around the world, not one place share the same similarity. From the poor and hungry in the far east to the middle east and from the squatters camp in Soweto to the Aborigines down in Australia, all embraced their own sets of values which has no comparison yet there are some values that enables the traveler to see that in spite of these unique cultural differences, people do share one thing in common. The will to embrace others who they may consider to be different in many ways.
Book Synopsis Economic and Environmental Benefits from International Cooperation on Climate Policies by : Jean Chateau
Download or read book Economic and Environmental Benefits from International Cooperation on Climate Policies written by Jean Chateau and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2022-03-17 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses and analyzes various international mechanisms to scale up global action on climate mitigation and address the policy gap in this area. Despite the new commitments made at COP 26, there is still an ambition and a policy gap at the global level to keep temperature increases below the 2°C agreed in Paris. Avoiding the worst outcomes of climate change requires an urgent scaling up of climate policies. Recent policy proposals include the idea of common minimum carbon prices, which underlie the IMF’s international carbon price proposal (Parry, Black, and Roaf 2021) and the climate club proposal of the German government. While global carbon prices are not a new idea, the new elements are the use of carbon price floors—which allow countries to do more if they wish—and the differentiation of carbon price floors by level of development. In the absence of international coordination, countries with ambitious climate policies are considering introducing a border carbon adjustment mechanism to prevent domestic producers from being at a competitive disadvantage due to more ambitious domestic climate policies. An interesting question from the global perspective is whether border carbon adjustment would deliver substantial additional emissions reductions or incentivize other countries to join a carbon price floor agreement.

Book Synopsis Urban Mobility and the Smartphone by : Anne Aguilera
Download or read book Urban Mobility and the Smartphone written by Anne Aguilera and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urban Mobility and the Smartphone: Transportation, Travel Behavior and Public Policy provides a global synthesis of the transformation of urban mobility by the smartphone, clarifying the definitions of new concepts and objects in mobility studies, accounting for the changes in transportation and travel behavior triggered by the spread of the smartphone, and discussing the implications of these changes for policy-making and research. Urban mobility is approached here as a system of actors: the perspectives of individual behavior (including lifestyles), the supply of mobility services (including actors, business models), and public policy-making are considered. The book is based on an extensive review of the academic literature as well as systematic observation of the development of smartphone-based mobility services around the world. In addition, case studies provide practical illustrations of the ongoing transformation of mobility services influenced by the dissemination of smartphones. The book not only consolidates existing research, but also picks up on weak signals that help researchers and practitioners anticipate future changes in urban mobility systems. Key Features • Synthesizes existing research into one reference, providing researchers and policy-makers with a clear and complete understanding of the changes triggered by the spread of the smartphone. • Analyzes numerous case studies throughout developed and developing countries providing practical illustrations of the influence of the smartphone on travel behavior, transportation systems, and policy-making. • Provides insights for researchers and practitioners looking to engage with the "smart cities" and "smart mobility" discourse. - Synthesizes existing research into one reference, providing researchers and policy-makers with a clear and complete understanding of the changes triggered by the spread of the smartphone - Analyzes numerous case studies throughout developed and developing countries providing practical illustrations of the influence of the smartphone on travel behavior, transportation systems, and policy-making - Provides insights for researchers and practitioners looking to engage with the "smart cities" and "smart mobility" discourse
