Download or read book Media & Entertainment Law written by Ursula Smartt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-02-03 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Media & Entertainment Law presents a contemporary analysis of the law relating to the media and entertainment industries both in terms of its practical application and its theoretical framework, providing a broad and comprehensive coverage of these fast changing branches of the law. Fully restructured to complement how media law is taught today in the digital age, this third edition explores recent updates in the law including the outcomes of the Google Spain case and the ‘right to be forgotten’, the use of drones in breach of privacy laws, internet libel and the boundaries of media freedom and press regulation following the Leveson inquiry. Media & Entertainment Law uses the most up-to-date authorities to explore privacy and confidentiality subjects, such as the Prince Charles 'black spider' letters, the Maximilian Schrems and the celebrity superinjunction PJS v Newsgroup Newspapers cases. The book also covers defamation, contempt of court and freedom of information, plus Scots law. New to this edition: A brand new chapter is dedicated to exploring technology and the media, including contemporary issues such as the dark web, the surveillance state, internet censorship and the law and social media, including bloggers, vloggers and tweeters. The chapters on regulatory authorities have been expanded to provide greater clarification and explanation of broadcasting, press and advertising regulation, including the protection of journalistic sources and comparisons with EU Law. The chapter on intellectual property and entertainment law has been streamlined to match media law courses more effectively. This text provides students with detailed coverage of the key principles, cases and legislation as well as a critical analysis of this vibrant subject.

Download or read book Media & Entertainment Law 2/e written by Ursula Smartt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-21 with total page 924 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Media and Entertainment Law presents a contemporary analysis of the law relating to the media and entertainment industry both in terms of its practical application and its theoretical framework. It provides a clear, current and comprehensive account of this exciting subject. Fully updated and revised, this second edition is one of the first texts to contain a full analysis of the Leveson Inquiry and the implications for our press and media that are arising from it. The new edition contains; a new chapter analysing the Defamation Act 2013; the Digital Economy Act 2010 which aimed to toughen up against copyright infringement online and has been subject to parliamentary review since coming into power; and the liability of internet service providers, including recent cases such as Tamiz vs Google 2012, which goes some way to define the extent to which an ISP may or may not be found liable for their bloggers content. With integrated coverage of Scots and Northern Irish law, Media and Entertainment Law also highlights comparisons with similar overseas jurisdictions, such as with the liability of ISPs where there are differences in both US and European law, in order to help students demonstrate an awareness of media laws, which may then influence UK legislation. Looking at key aspects such as TV and radio broadcasting, the print press, the music industry, online news and entertainment and social networking sites, this text provides detailed coverage of the key principles, cases and legislation as well as a critical analysis of regulatory bodies such as OFCOM and the new regulator for the UK's newspapers and magazines (and online editions), the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso). The text also provides the most comprehensive and up to date coverage of the law relating to Intellectual Property law for the entertainment industry with recent changes in EU law relating to performers' rights. Book Synopsis Economic Knowledge in Regulation by : Lorna S Schrefler
Download or read book Economic Knowledge in Regulation written by Lorna S Schrefler and published by ECPR Press. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is conventional to argue that the autonomy and reputation of independent regulatory agencies (IRAs) depend on their expertise. Yet, studies on how IRAs create and deploy their knowledge capacity are few and far apart. By addressing the underexplored question of the role of economics in regulatory policy making, this book fills a gap in two different strands of literature: on IRAs and on knowledge utilisation respectively. Only a few authors have taken a somewhat comparable approach (eg McGarity 1991, Morgenstern 1997, Jennings and Hall 2011), but their work focuses on US regulators. Conversely, little has been written on their European counterparts. This book also proposes an innovative solution to operationalise hypotheses on the role of expertise in policy making, and makes this contribution particularly relevant for recent debates on evidence-based policy making. Finally, it takes a close look at specific regulatory decisions by one of the oldest and most authoritative regulators.

Book Synopsis New media and the creative industries by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Culture, Media and Sport Committee
Download or read book New media and the creative industries written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Culture, Media and Sport Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2007-05-16 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The move from analogue to digital broadcasting, the growth of broadband access to the internet, and the development of new platforms such as mobile TV are all giving consumers a far greater choice over what they watch and listen to, and where and when the do so. New markets are opening up for creators and broadcasters, and empowering consumers who are no longer limited in the range of products available. This creates challenges for the creative industries and their regulators to ensure that consumers are protected, and that creators are able to obtain their due reward. In this respect, the protection of intellectual property and enforcement of copyright law are of greater importance to the health and survival of the creative industries than ever before. This report surveys the new media technologies in the UK today, examines the impact upon creators and the links between creator and consumer, and reports on the problem of piracy. Finally, the role of government is assessed: there is a clear role in setting the legal framework and enforcing it, particularly to combat piracy; and there should be greater clarity in the law as to what is and is not permitted.

Book Synopsis Regulation and the Evolution of the Global Telecommunications Industry by : Anastassios Gentzoglanis
Download or read book Regulation and the Evolution of the Global Telecommunications Industry written by Anastassios Gentzoglanis and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After decades of liberalization of the telecommunications industry around the world and technological convergence that allows for increasing competition, sector-specific regulation of telecommunications has been on the decline. As a result, the telecommunications industry stands in the middle of a debate that calls for either a total deregulation of access to broadband infrastructures or a separation of infrastructure from service delivery. This book proposes new approaches to dealing with the current and future issues of regulation of telecommunication markets on both a regional and a global scale. This volume represents a valuable compendium of ideas regarding global trends in the telecommunications industry that focus on market and regulatory issues and company strategies. With an international cast of contributors, Regulation and the Evolution of the Global Telecommunications Industry also provides insight into topics including: mobile Internet development, structural function and separation, global experiences with next generation networks, technology convergence and the role of regulation, and the regulatory impact on the balance between static and dynamic efficiencies. The empirical evidence and experiences presented here illustrate the diversity of thoughts and research that characterize this important area of academic and business research. Thus, it will be a critical reference for scholars and students of regulatory economics, policy and finance and researchers and administrators of the telecom industry.
