Book excerpt: This book is a field kit to help those who are serving stay connected to their beloved back home. The poems I wrote back to my beloved Lisa will serve as a guide for you to draft your own odes and letters. Just use the included blank postcard pages to draft or copy an ode that reminds you of who you're missing and why. Then carefully cut out your completed postcard page, fold it in half and send it in the mail to your beloved! MAKE YOUR BELOVED SMILE! Simply use the included postcard pages to write an ode to your beloved. Then cut out your completed postcard page, fold it in half, and drop it in the mail! Your ode doesn't have to be perfect, it doesn't always have to rhyme and you shouldn't worry about it sounding silly. In fact, being a little silly is part of what makes writing poems fun and keeps you connected to your beloved. If you've run out of creative writing ammo, just copy the ode I wrote and replace Lisa's name with the name of someone you're missing. My beloved Lisa and I are closer together now because we stayed connected during my deployment. I hope my Odes from the Sandbox help you stay close to the ones you love, even when you're serving far away.Hooah! -Jeffrey

A spiritual experience thrusts him into this new lifestyle where his success skyrockets and he excels at an even more rapid pace. He leaves the world of strip clubs with fast money and loose women for the calling of the Lord. His new success brings a beautiful wife, influential friends, and a church full of people who worship him. So what could a man with all of this possibly want? More! How does a man with everything under control unravel? What happens when vanity, lust, and greed replace honor, covenant, and integrity? LJ's venue has changed but the script remained the same. Find out what happens when insatiable appetites create unfillable voids and unforgivable debts. Can LJ resist the temptation to return to old habits? Kinetic has captured the humanity of church folk and she enlightens us about the quandary of being torn between what is right and what brings immediate pleasure.

Book excerpt: Following a terrorist explosion on a bus in Jerusalem, Yael, a married mother who narrowly escaped the attack, is haunted by the last image she recalls before the horror: a little blonde child waving to her from the window of the bus, and the sound of Beethoven's Ode to Joy, which was playing on her car radio. Yael's husband, Nachum, seems unable, or unwilling to understand what she has been through, and although her friends and colleagues are sympathetic, they cannot share her pain. Still traumatised, she feels compelled to seek out the blonde child's grieving father, the enigmatic and mysterious Avshalom. Drawn to him through their mutual suffering and fascinated by his unusual background, Yael begins to fall helplessly in love with him. Avshalom too, cannot deny his own feelings, but his belief that the loss of his wife and child is divine punishment for past sins overshadows any glimmer of hope for their future.

Book excerpt: Biomechanics is a component of Encyclopedia of Physical Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. The enormous progress in the field of health sciences that has been achieved in the 19th and 20th centuries would have not been possible without the enabling interaction and support of sophisticated technologies that progressively gave rise to a new interdisciplinary field named alternatively as bioengineering or biomedical engineering. Although both terms are synonymous, the latter is less general since it limits the field of application to medicine and clinical practice, while the former covers semantically the whole field of interaction between life sciences and engineering, thus including also applications in biology, biochemistry or the many '-omics'. We use in this book the second, with more general meaning, recalling the very important relation between fundamental science and engineering. And this also recognizes the tremendous economic and social impacts of direct application of engineering in medicine that maintains the health industry as one with the fastest growth in the world economy. Biomechanics, in particular, aims to explain and predict the mechanics of the different components of living beings, from molecules to organisms as well as to design, manufacture and use of any artificial device that interacts with the mechanics of living beings. It helps, therefore, to understand how living systems move, to characterize the interaction between forces and deformation along all spatial scales, to analyze the interaction between structural behavior and microstructure, with the very important particularity of dealing with adaptive systems, able to adapt their internal structure, size and geometry to the particular mechanical environment in which they develop their activity, to understand and predict alterations in the mechanical function due to injuries, diseases or pathologies and, finally, to propose methods of artificial intervention for functional diagnosis or recovery. Biomechanics is today a very highly interdisciplinary subject that attracts the attention of engineers, mathematicians, physicists, chemists, material specialists, biologists, medical doctors, etc. They work in many different topics from a purely scientific objective to industrial applications and with an increasing arsenal of sophisticated modeling and experimental tools but always with the final objectives of better understanding the fundamentals of life and improve the quality of life of human beings. One purpose in this volume has been to present an overview of some of these many possible subjects in a self-contained way for a general audience. This volume is aimed at the following major target audiences: University and College Students, Educators, Professional Practitioners, and Research Personnel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes words are hard to find to express ourselves to those we love and care about, but we wish to share how we feel about them anyway. The "Reflections of Love" may provide inspiration to find the words you wish to share with someone you care about; your sister, your girlfriend, your wife, your friend, your mother, or your father. You might even find something to connect with for yourself. Maybe within these reflections, you will connect with some words or a phrase and find peace. You may find the meaning to life in a poem or peace to share with a friend or a loved one. Whatever it is you're feeling or wish to share with someone, I hope you will enjoy a poem or two that I am lucky enough to now share with you. Enjoy, love, live, read and be happy.
