Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I first ventured into the wide and misty domain of Occultism, with a light heart I set forth and an open mind. My sole aim was to ascertain, as far as the means at the disposal of an ordinary man with little of the mystic in his composition would allow, what degree of probability attached to published phenomena, which the ordinary laws of Nature, as most of us understand them, could not satisfactorily explain. At the threshold of my inquiry, one prominent and, as it seemed to me, disconcerting fact confronted me-namely, that although for a couple of generations "supernatural" manifestations had been promiscuously exhibited before the public, challenging full investigation and inviting belief; although almost every day the newspapers report some striking case of spirit apparition or materialisation, coincident dreams, clairvoyance, trance utterances, or possession, often seemingly well attested; yet in spite of all this testimony academic science continued to dispute the very basis of such phenomena. Any investigator must needs recognise here a very anomalous situation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Occultism We cannot revert our minds these days, but we hear of the occult. Occultism, in various forms, is becoming in a tremendous and may be dangerous sense the fad of the world. The dan ger is evident in the important fact that the occult is so glibly handled by those who know it so little. There are those even like a child, ignorantly playing with fire, employ occultism for commercial and selfish purposes, and hourly curse themselves through the law of reflection. They invariably become neurasthenic. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spiritism and Common Sense Apostolic Delegation, United States of American, 1811 Biltmore Street, Washington, D. C. Nov. 28, 1920. Reverend Father: Having assisted at the two conferences which your reverence so ably gave in this city, I am glad to express my congratulations. I am delighted also and grateful, not only for the pleasure given me and the rest of the spectators but above all for the good that such conferences will doubtless produce. Let us always open more and more the eyes of the public - especially Catholics - to dangers of Spiritism; making them at the same time realize that many phenomena attributed to a mysterious and occult cause are reducible to clever trickery. Accept, then, the renewed expression of my sentiment of admiration. Blessing you in the Lord, I have the pleasure to sign myself, Your Reverence's servant in Christ, Giovanni Bonzano, Arcivescovo di Melitence, Delegato Apotolico. R. F. C.
