Book excerpt: OCCASION FOR SCANDAL For decades the Traditional Roman Catholic Movement has fought to defend authentic Catholicism, and has seen its share of victories and defeats. But many may not know: the "movement" is actually a fragmented mass of individuals and groups, many of whom dislike each other more intensely than they ever hated Vatican II. And many of these bishops possess "apostolic succession" lineages coming from Occultists, Gnostics, Freemasons, and Martinists, some of the very things Traditional Catholics have sworn as mortal enemies. In this text, Agostino lays out presents these lineages, their sources, the personalities behind them, and the "points of contact" where they spread within the Traditional Movement, generally unknown to the bishops themselves. Is this "occasion for scandal?" Or is this "occasion for rejoicing?" YOU DECIDE!

Book excerpt: It is acknowledged Church doctrine that sorcery is the specific domain of the Devil. Yet occult tales are liberally sprinkled throughout the Old and New Testaments, from the spirit-invoking Witch of Endor to the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Throughout its 2,000 year history, the Church has spawned numerous mystical religious orders, like the Knights Templar, that may have been engaged in supernatural pursuits, while no fewer than three popes were believed to be involved in occult practices. Christian scriptures tell us that the occult is real, while Catholic priests are thought to have spiritual power over ghosts and evil entities. But if a priest can cast out demons during the rites of exorcism, does it not imply he has the ability to summon them as well? In this eye-opening, provocative work, leading occult scholar Simon examines the Church's unspoken relationship with forbidden magic by exploring the infamous seventeenth-century document considered by some to be the most demonic of all occult texts—the Grimoire of Pope Honorius III—and illuminates the Vatican's darkest hidden corners.

Book excerpt: As far back as history goes, at all times, in all lands, and among all peoples materializations of spirits have occurred. The spirit manifestations to-day are but a repetition of those which took place in pre-Christian times. The war and the publications of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir Oliver Lodge, W. J. Crawford, and Emile Boirac have given to Spiritism a popular vogue and impetus. By a singular coincidence books on Spiritism, published in Germany, France, and Italy have appeared almost simultaneously with English and American publications on this weird subject. Many of these have given a quasi-scientific endorsation to Spiritism, and have contributed official support to the current belief in the reality of Spiritistic phenomena. Catholic students of these phenomena have never doubted their reality. While admitting and conceding the impositions, frauds, trickery and deceptions of many professional mediums. Catholic psychologists and theologians, who for nearly two thousand years have investigated the subject, hold that materializations have always taken place and are occurring to-day, and that no theory of fraud or delusion can account for them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on Levenda’s research into Mormonism, Freemasonry, and esoteric societies over the past thirty years, this book is intended for an audience that is curious about Mormonism in light of the fact that at the beginning of 2012 there were two Mormons running for the GOP presidential nomination against two Roman Catholics. There has been much confusion in the media over various Mormon phenomena, such as the “magic underwear,” polygamy “Big Love” style, and much else. This book examines the beliefs and reveals the facts of Mormon ideas and practice, starting with its founder Joseph Smith Jr. who began his religious career with rituals of ceremonial magic and divination, and ended it with Freemasonry, the largest militia in the state of Illinois, a candidacy for US president, and assassination. Levenda also discussed the Mormons connection to Howard Hughes, Richard Nixon and Watergate as well as the role of Mormons in contemporary Presidential elections. This is the fascinating story of a purely American religion, its occult origins, and the rise of Mormons in American politics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several New Age magazines have devoted stories to a burgeoning "Cult of the Goddess." But this cult isn't a result of the women's movement or the product of environmental consciousness - nor is it really new. In fact, the Catholic Church has been making use of a similar cult for two thousand years. In this book, Gerald A. Larue examines the scriptural underpinnings of occult and supernaturalistic notions that survive in contemporary society. The Supernatural, the Occult, and the Bible is based on the author's thorough knowledge of the history of ancient Near-Eastern cultures and their mythology. Larue argues that biblical supernaturalism and modern occultism are two sides of the same coin, and illustrates in fascinating detail how they engender and support each other. He suggests that contemporary religions cannot shirk responsibility for some of the more foolish excesses of occult practice. Larue points out that present-day churchgoers are not as a matter of course made aware of archaeological findings that shed light on scriptural teachings - research into biblical and related languages, literary analyses of biblical texts, and studies of the relationship between concepts found in the Bible and aspects of contemporary occult beliefs and practices - and explains why this is so. The breadth of Larue's research and depth of insight, and his common sense approach, make this book both engrossing and important.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Freemasonry and Catholicism: An Exposition of the Cosmic Facts Underlying These Two Great Institutions as Determined by Occult Investigation HE Rosicrucian Fellowship aims to educate and construct, to be charitable even to those from whom we differ, and never to vent the venom Of vitu peration, spite, or malice even upon those who seem deliberately determined to mislead. We revere the Catholic religion; it is as divine in its essence, as Mystic Masonry - both are rooted in hoary antiquity, both were born to further the aspiration Of the striv ing soul, and both have a message and a mission in the world not apparent upon the surface today, be cause man-made ceremonial as a scale has hidden the kernel Of divinity in each. It is the Obj ect Of the present articles to remove that scale and show the Cosmic purpose Of these two Great Organizations, which are so bitterly antagonistic to each other. We do not aim to reconcile them, however, for though they are both designed to further the emancipation Of the soul, their methods are difierent, and the attributes Of the soul fostered by one method will in deed be very different from the quality Of the soul nurtured in the other School. Therefore the strife must continue until the battle for the souls Of menhas been lost and won. The issue is not, however, the persistence Of the Masonic or Catholic institutions; but the outcome will determine the nature Of the training humanity will receive in the remaining Periods Of our evolution. We shall endeavor to show the cosmic root Of both Of these institutions, the pur pose Of each and the training which each will inau garate, if successful; also the nature Of the soul qual ity which may be expected to result from each method. The writer is not a Mason, and thus he is free to say what he knows without fear of violating obligations, but he is a Mason at heart, and there fore frankly opposed to Catholicism. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do Freemasons worship Satan? It was once "common knowledge" that they did... until, ironically, a famous occultist debunked this preposterous belief. Waite, a preeminent 19th-century expert in esoterica, here examines the outrageous claims of Leo Taxil, who shot to fame in the 1880s and '90s with his stories about "Diabolism" among the Masons, ripping them to shreds in his uniquely sharp, droll voice and offering his own keen insights into Victorian mysticism along the way. This highly entertaining work, a classic of rationalistic literature first published in 1896, will fascinate and delight students of secret societies, paranormal skeptics, and readers of the history of religion alike. American-born British author ARTHUR EDWARD WAITE (1857-1942) was cocreator of the famous 1910 Rider-Waite Tarot deck. Among his numerous books are Book of Ceremonial Magic, The Holy Kabbalah, and New Encyclopedia of Freemasonry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A.E. Waite's Devil-Worship in France, rather than being an infernal how-to book or even a history of what the title purports, is in fact an examination of a most sensational hoax perpetrated by Parisian journalist, Leo Taxil. Taxil and fictitious associate, Diana Vaughan, created a scandal in the late 1800s by reporting on a most heinous occult sect, the "Palladian Masons," that admitted women and performed diabolic acts of "Luciferian Spiritism." Taxil's "revelation" of this secret society and its supposed links to Freemasonry and other occult organizations, created a public hysteria and outcry against all things occult, especially secret societies. A.E. Waite's response, Devil-Worship in France, is his satirical and somewhat farcical interpretation of this sensationalization and persecution of occult groups in France at that time. This work, along with similar refutations by French occultist Papus, raised questions Taxil could not answer, and he was forced to admit that the reports were a hoax meant to ridicule both the Catholic Church and Freemasonry. This republication of Devil-Worship in France is the first reprint of the book in nearly one hundred years. A.E. Waite then wrote Diana Vaughan and the Question of Modern Palladism, the sequel to Devil-Worship in France, where he reexamined and re-presented the telling of the hoax in a straightforward manner- without the satire and farce. Published for the first time, here, finally, is the whole story behind the hoax that slandered occult communities throughout Europe in the late 1800s. R.A. Gilbert's introduction places the book in historical and contemporary context.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The historiographers of religious studies have written the history of this discipline primarily as a rationalization of ideological, most prominently theological and phenomenological ideas: first through the establishment of comparative, philological and sociological methods and secondly through the demand for intentional neutrality. This interpretation caused important roots in occult-esoteric traditions to be repressed. This process of “purification” (Latour) is not to be equated with the origin of the academic studies. De facto, the elimination of idealistic theories took time and only happened later. One example concerning the early entanglement is Tibetology, where many researchers and respected chair holders were influenced by theosophical ideas or were even members of the Theosophical Society. Similarly, the emergence of comparatistics cannot be understood without taking into account perennialist ideas of esoteric provenance, which hold that all religions have a common origin. In this perspective, it is not only the history of religious studies which must be revisited, but also the partial shaping of religious studies by these traditions, insofar as it saw itself as a counter-model to occult ideas.
