Book Synopsis Languages for Automation by : Shi-Kuo Chang
Download or read book Languages for Automation written by Shi-Kuo Chang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two central ideas in the movement toward advanced automation systems are the office-of-the-future (or office automation system), and the factory of-the-future (or factory automation system). An office automation system is an integrated system with diversified office equipment, communication devices, intelligent terminals, intelligent copiers, etc., for providing information management and control in a dis tributed office environment. A factory automation system is also an inte grated system with programmable machine tools, robots, and other pro cess equipment such as new "peripherals," for providing manufacturing information management and control. Such advanced automation systems can be regarded as the response to the demand for greater variety, greater flexibility, customized designs, rapid response, and 'Just-in-time" delivery of office services or manufac tured goods. The economy of scope, which allows the production of a vari ety of similar products in random order, gradually replaces the economy of scale derived from overall volume of operations. In other words, we are gradually switching from the production of large volumes of standard products to systems for the production of a wide variety of similar products in small batches. This is the phenomenon of "demassification" of the marketplace, as described by Alvin Toffier in The Third Wave.
Book Synopsis Communicating Sequential Processes. The First 25 Years by : Ali E. Abdallah
Download or read book Communicating Sequential Processes. The First 25 Years written by Ali E. Abdallah and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-05-03 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book commemorates the work done by Tony Hoare and published under the title Communicating Sequential Processes in the 1978 August issue of the Communications of ACM. The British Computer Society's specialist group Formal Aspects of Computing Science organized a meeting on July 7-8, 2004, in London, to mark the occasion of 25 years of CSP. The 19 carefully reviewed and revised full papers by leading researchers celebrate, reflect upon, and look beyond the first quarter-century of CSP's contributions to computer science. The papers explore the impact of CSP on many areas ranging from semantics and logic, through the design of parallel programming languages to applications varying from distributed software and parallel computing to information security, Web services, and concurrent hardware circuits.

Book Synopsis Advanced Guided Vehicles by : Stephen Cameron
Download or read book Advanced Guided Vehicles written by Stephen Cameron and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford University Robotics Research Group has been working for several years to improve the ability of automated guided vehicles. This book brings together much of the key research work on sensors and planning that was inspired by an industrial vehicle donated by a factory automation division in GEC, GEC-FAST, together with background material to provide a basic but up-to-date reference guide to autonomous vehicle research. The book includes work on control, sensing technologies, sensor management and data-fusion, different styles of path planning suited for off-line or online plans and task planning. It is designed to act both as a reference for the robotics professional, and as a text for university-level courses.
