Book Synopsis Cosmic Magnetic Fields by : Richard Wielebinski
Download or read book Cosmic Magnetic Fields written by Richard Wielebinski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-09-13 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While magnetic fields permeate the universe on all scales, the present book is dedicated to their investigation on the largest scales and affords a balanced account of both theoretical and observational aspects. Written as a set of advanced lectures and tutorial reviews that lead up to the forefront of research, this book offers both a modern source of reference for the experienced researchers as well as a high-level introductory text for postgraduate students and nonspecialist researchers working in related areas.
Book Synopsis Cosmic Magnetism, by : Percy Seymour
Download or read book Cosmic Magnetism, written by Percy Seymour and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of extraterrestrial magnetic fields is a relatively new one, confirmation of the existance of the first such field (that of our Sun) having come a s late as 1908. In the past 30 years a great ammount of knowledge has been accumulated on Cosmic Magnetism, which has turned out to be a truly fascinating topic for study. Percy Seymour's book is the first to deal with the topic in a non-mathematical way, and he offers a fine introduction to his subject. The first three chapters consolidate our knowledge on magnetism in general and the magnetic field of the Earth, as well as discussing the reasons for studying astronomy and cosmic magnetism in particular. The remainder of the book is devoted to the main areas of cosmic magnetism - solar, plantetary and interplanetary fields, fields in stars and pulsars, fields of the milky way and fields in other galaxies. Cosmic Magnetism in an ideal book for sixth-formers and undergraduates studying physics or astronomy and will also appeal to amateur astronomers. as previous work on this topic has been 'hidden' in specialised academic journals.
Book Synopsis Magnetic Fields in Diffuse Media by : Alexander Lazarian
Download or read book Magnetic Fields in Diffuse Media written by Alexander Lazarian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-14 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the current knowledge of magnetic fields in diffuse astrophysical media. Starting with an overview of 21st century instrumentation to observe astrophysical magnetic fields, the chapters cover observational techniques, origin of magnetic fields, magnetic turbulence, basic processes in magnetized fluids, the role of magnetic fields for cosmic rays, in the interstellar medium and for star formation. Written by a group of leading experts the book represents an excellent overview of the field. Nonspecialists will find sufficient background to enter the field and be able to appreciate the state of the art.
Book Synopsis Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts by : S. Böhme
Download or read book Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts written by S. Böhme and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 1180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the reviews: Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969 and it has already become one of the fundamental publications in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics and neighbouring sciences. It is the most important English-language abstracting journal in the mentioned branches. ... The abstracts are classified under more than hundred subject categories, thus permitting a quick survey of the whole extended material. The AAA is a valuable and important publication for all students and scientists working in the fields of astronomy and related sciences. As such it represents a necessary ingredient of any astronomical library all over the world." Space Science Reviews #1 "Dividing the whole field plus related subjects into 108 categories, each work is numbered and most are accompanied by brief abstracts. Fairly comprehensive cross-referencing links relevant papers to more than one category, and exhaustive author and subject indices are to be found at the back, making the catalogues easy to use. The series appears to be so complete in its coverage and always less than a year out of date that I shall certainly have to make a little more space on those shelves for future volumes." Book Synopsis Literature 1971, Part 2 by : S. Böhme
Download or read book Literature 1971, Part 2 written by S. Böhme and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts, which has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969, is de voted to the recording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. It is prepared under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documentation of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Every effort will be made to ensure that the average time interval between the date of receipt of the original literature and publication of the abstracts will not exceed eight months. This time interval is near to that achieved by monthly abstracting journals, com pared to which our system of accumulating abstracts for about six months offers the advantage of greater convenience for the user. Volume 6 contains literature published in 1971 and received before March 15, 1972; some older liter ature which was received late and which is not recorded in earlier volumes is also included.

Book Synopsis Extragalactic Jets by : Travis Arthur Rector
Download or read book Extragalactic Jets written by Travis Arthur Rector and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "These proceedings of an international meeting held May 2007 in Girdwood, Alaska, USA provide a comprehensive overview of recent theoretical and observational work on the nature of extragalactic jets, from parsec to kiloparsec scales. Special emphasis is given to the interaction of jets with their environment and to the insights this interaction can provide. The invited reviews, contributed talks, and poster sessions form a detailed summary of the latest findings, as well as illustrate outstanding questions that remain to be resolved. This book is suitable for researchers and graduate students. The origin and evolution of highly collimated and highly energetic outflows from the nuclei of some galaxies remains, after over 30 years of intensive study, and enigmatic process. We still do not know how these jets are collimated, or what they contain beyond relativistic particles and magnetic fields, much less how they come to be in the first place. If we could unravel the mystery of their origins, then it is clear that new and significant constraints could also be placed on the origin and evolution of the "central engine," presumably a massive black hole, that creates them. This is turn would give rise to new constraints on the formation and evolution of the parent galaxies and their environment. The quest for insights into the nature of these objects has always been made difficult by the last of information conveyed by their simple power law radiation spectrum, and so much of the information gained must be inferential. However, the hope remains that by gaining an understanding of the interaction of these objects with their environment we may be able to deduce the key parameters of the jets themselves. This strategy of working from "the outside in" is showing increasing promise as higher resolution observations with increasing sensitivity are being made over increased coverage in wavelength, especially as these are cast against results from sophisticated theoretical calculations that include three-dimensional MHD simulations."--Publisher's website
