Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rabbit breeding, although being a small sector of animal husbandry, is widespread in many areas of the world, as the rabbit is intended both for food (meat) and not food (fur) purposes. The rabbit production chain has to face various problems, mainly concerning animal health and product quality. To overcome these issues, studies using a multidisciplinary approach addressing aspects of the rabbit nutrition and feeding, with a direct impact on the rabbit farming, welfare, health, and meat quality are particularly appreciated and requested by the scientific community. This book is composed of four original papers and one review focused on different nutritional approaches. In particular a phyto-additive (thyme essential oil) and a rabbit-derived bacteriocin-producing strain (Enterococcus faecium CCM7420) with probiotic properties were investigated as new feed additives, while two types of insect fats were studied, in order to understand their effects as dietary replacements for soybean oil and their in vitro antimicrobial activities as alternative raw materials. Results collected in this book will be of particular interest for farmers and animal nutritionists working in the rabbit breeding sector

Moore, Ph.D., provides pet rabbit owners with valuable information about the total care of their pet. Part one tells owners just what to expect from their new member of the family and gives detailed information on how to house, feed, and train a rabbit. In addition to detailed information on many rabbit diseases, there are tips on creating a first-aid kit for rabbits as well as providing emergency care. With more and more pet owners choosing to keep their rabbits indoors full time, this informative guide lays out practical information for making rabbits a healthy part of any family.

Book excerpt: Focusing on gut health in animals, his accessible study provides an overview of the potential benefits of phytogenic substances and plant-based feed additives to animal nutrition. This up-to-date and well-researched exploration focuses on the latest scientific knowledge regarding these additives and their potential use as flavoring agents and growth promoters in different animals worldwide, from pigs and poultry to ruminant mammals and aquatic species. It also highlights results from in vitro experiments as well as in vivo trials and shows how these tests have practical implication of phytogenic feeding concepts. Recognizing that the mechanisms in these additives are versatile and still need additional elucidation and scientific proof, this examination intends to help scientists and the feed industry further develop the group of feed additives.
