The number of patients undergoing dialysis is continuously growing. Nurses' play a vital role in the care and treatment of patients undergoing dialysis. The goal of caring for patients with kidney failure is to help each individual achieve the maximum level of health possible. Desirable patient care practices are needed for patients to achieve the highest standards of dialysis care to ensure adequate treatment and improve quality of life. The objective of this study was to evaluate the nurses' knowledge and practice in selected hemodialysis clinics in Metro Manila and to establish the need for a standardized nursing care. This study utilized the descriptive comparative research design to elicit information and identify nurse's level of knowledge and level of practice on the standards of care on patient care management, infection control and safety, and rehabilitation using assessment, intervention and evaluation.

Nephrology nurse should assist the patients in managing their health problems. Therefore; this study aimed to assess nurses' knowledge and practice provided to the patients undergoing hemodialysis. A convenient sample of 65 nurses working in hemodialysis units were selected over a period of six months. Two tools were developed to collect data, 1 Knowledge assessment sheet.2 Hemodialysis nurses' practice checklist. Results, more than half of the study sample had average knowledge regarding hemodialysis, while all of the study sample had an unsatisfactory level of practice. The study recommended that, the hospital should institute regular continuing training for nurses regarding care for the patients undergoing hemodialysis.
