Book Synopsis Integer Programming and Related Areas by : C. Kastning
Download or read book Integer Programming and Related Areas written by C. Kastning and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integer Prograw~ing is one of the most fascinating and difficult areas in the field of Mathematical Optimization. Due to this fact notable research contributions to Integer Programming have been made in very different branches of mathematics and its applications. Since these publications are scattered over many journals, proceedings volumes, monographs, and working papers, a comprehensive bibliography of all these sources is a helpful tool even for specialists in this field. I initiated this compilation of literature in 1970 at the Institut fur ~konometrie und Operations Research, University of Bonn. Since then many collaborators have contributed to and worked on it. Among them Dipl.-Math. Claus Kastning has done the bulk of the work. With great perseverance and diligence he has gathered all the material and checked it with the original sources. The main aim was to incorporate rare and not easily accessible sources like Russian journals, preprints or unpublished papers. Without the invaluable and dedicated engagement of Claus Kastning the bibliography would never have reached this final version. For this reason he must be considered its responsible editor. As with any other collection this literature list has a subjective viewpoint and may be in some sense incomplete. We have however tried to be as complete as possible. The bibliography contains 4704 different publications by 6767 authors which were classified by 11839 descriptor entries.

Book Synopsis A Guide to the Literature on Semirings and their Applications in Mathematics and Information Sciences by : K. Glazek
Download or read book A Guide to the Literature on Semirings and their Applications in Mathematics and Information Sciences written by K. Glazek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a short guide to the extensive literature concerning semir ings along with a complete bibliography. The literature has been created over many years, in variety of languages, by authors representing different schools of mathematics and working in various related fields. In many instances the terminology used is not universal, which further compounds the difficulty of locating pertinent sources even in this age of the Internet and electronic dis semination of research results. So far there has been no single reference that could guide the interested scholar or student to the relevant publications. This book is an attempt to fill this gap. My interest in the theory of semirings began in the early sixties, when to gether with Bogdan W ~glorz I tried to investigate some algebraic aspects of compactifications of topological spaces, semirings of semicontinuous functions, and the general ideal theory for special semirings. (Unfortunately, local alge braists in Poland told me at that time that there was nothing interesting in investigating semiring theory because ring theory was still being developed). However, some time later we became aware of some similar investigations hav ing already been done. The theory of semirings has remained "my first love" ever since, and I have been interested in the results in this field that have been appearing in literature (even though I have not been active in this area myself).
Book Synopsis Mathematical Algorithms for Linear Regression by : Helmuth Späth
Download or read book Mathematical Algorithms for Linear Regression written by Helmuth Späth and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Algorithms for Linear Regression discusses numerous fitting principles related to discrete linear approximations, corresponding numerical methods, and FORTRAN 77 subroutines. The book explains linear Lp regression, method of the lease squares, the Gaussian elimination method, the modified Gram-Schmidt method, the method of least absolute deviations, and the method of least maximum absolute deviation. The investigator can determine which observations can be classified as outliers (those with large errors) and which are not by using the fitting principle. The text describes the elimination of outliers and the selection of variables if too many or all of them are given by values. The clusterwise linear regression accounts if only a few of the relevant variables have been collected or are collectible, assuming that their number is small in relation to the number of observations. The book also examines linear Lp regression with nonnegative parameters, the Kuhn-Tucker conditions, the Householder transformations, and the branch-and-bound method. The text points out the method of least squares is mainly used for models with nonlinear parameters or for orthogonal distances. The book can serve and benefit mathematicians, students, and professor of calculus, statistics, or advanced mathematics.

Download or read book Graphs and Order written by Ivan Rival and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the accounts of the principal survey papers presented at GRAPHS and ORDER, held at Banff, Canada from May 18 to May 31, 1984. This conference was supported by grants from the N.A.T.O. Advanced Study Institute programme, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the University of Calgary. We are grateful for all of this considerable support. Almost fifty years ago the first Symposium on Lattice Theory was held in Charlottesville, U.S.A. On that occasion the principal lectures were delivered by G. Birkhoff, O. Ore and M.H. Stone. In those days the theory of ordered sets was thought to be a vigorous relative of group theory. Some twenty-five years ago the Symposium on Partially Ordered Sets and Lattice Theory was held in Monterey, U.S.A. Among the principal speakers at that meeting were R.P. Dilworth, B. Jonsson, A. Tarski and G. Birkhoff. Lattice theory had turned inward: it was concerned primarily with problems about lattices themselves. As a matter of fact the problems that were then posed have, by now, in many instances, been completely solved.
