Download or read book Hot Summer Daze - Proceeding Of The Bnl Summer Study On Qcd At Nonzero Temperature And Density written by A Gocksch and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-03-31 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this book review recent developments in the microscopic theory of optical and electronic semiconductor properties. Many advances in this active field are intimately related to the work of Hartmut Haug and his coworkers. At the occasion of Haug's 60th birthday, a number of current and/or former members of his research team review the current state-of-the-art. Topics include the quantum kinetics of electrons, phonons and photons, coherent optical effects, quantum transport, ballistic motion, microscopic semiconductor laser theory with special emphasis on microlasers, symmetry aspects of laser excited semiconductors, as well as a review of the two-dimensional Wigner crystal in a strong magnetic field. The articles present the material in sufficient detail to be understandable by advanced graduate students and researchers who have a good background in quantum mechanics.

Book Synopsis Numerical Challenges in Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics by : Andreas Frommer
Download or read book Numerical Challenges in Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics written by Andreas Frommer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lattice gauge theory is a fairly young research area in Theoretical Particle Physics. It is of great promise as it offers the framework for an ab-initio treatment of the nonperturbative features of strong interactions. Ever since its adolescence the simulation of quantum chromodynamics has attracted the interest of numerical analysts and there is growing interdisciplinary engage ment between theoretical physicists and applied mathematicians to meet the grand challenges of this approach. This volume contains contributions of the interdisciplinary workshop "Nu merical Challenges in Lattice Quantum Chromo dynamics" that the Institute of Applied Computer Science (IAI) at Wuppertal University together with the Von-Neumann-Institute-for-Computing (NIC) organized in August 1999. The purpose of the workshop was to offer a platform for the exchange of key ideas between lattice QCD and numerical analysis communities. In this spirit leading experts from both fields have put emphasis to transcend the barriers between the disciplines. The meetings was focused on the following numerical bottleneck problems: A standard topic from the infancy of lattice QCD is the computation of Green's functions, the inverse of the Dirac operator. One has to solve huge sparse linear systems in the limit of small quark masses, corresponding to high condition numbers of the Dirac matrix. Closely related is the determination of flavor-singlet observables which came into focus during the last years.

Download or read book Lattice 91 written by M. Fukugita and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lattice 91 covers the proceedings of the International Symposium on Lattice Field Theory held in Tsukuba, Japan on 5-9 November 1991. The book focuses on quantum chromodynamics, Higgs-fermion theories, QED, lattice quantum gravity and random surfaces, spin systems related to field theory, simulation algorithms, and dedicated computers. The selection first offers information on the QCD spectrum and phase diagram on the lattice and QCD at finite density, including phase structure of QCD, Monte-Carlo simulations with dynamical fermions, and quenched approximation. The book then tackles weak matrix elements, simulation of heavy quarks, and sphaleron induced baryon number non-conservation. The text reviews quantum gravity and random surfaces, recent analytic progress in finite size effects, and parallel QCD machines. Discussions focus on two-dimensional quantum gravity, signatures of resonance in finite volume, first order transitions, and determination of the running coupling. The publication also ponders on hadronic forces from the lattice, universality of the confinement string in multiple potentials, and confinement and saddle-point configurations. The selection is highly recommended for readers interested in the lattice field theory.

Book Synopsis Hadronic Physics from Lattice QCD by : Anthony M. Green
Download or read book Hadronic Physics from Lattice QCD written by Anthony M. Green and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle and nuclear physicists frequently take results from Lattice QCD at their face value without probing into their reliability or sophistication. This attitude usually stems from a lack of knowledge of the field. The aim of the present volume is to rectify this by introducing in an elementary way several topics, which we believe are appropriate for, and of possible interest to, both particle and nuclear physicists who are non-experts in the field.
