Book Synopsis Modeling of Gas-to-Particle Mass Transfer in Turbulent Flows by : Sean C. Garrick
Download or read book Modeling of Gas-to-Particle Mass Transfer in Turbulent Flows written by Sean C. Garrick and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Brief focuses on the dispersion of high-porosity particles, their entrainment into the vapor-laden stream, and the condensation of vapor onto the particles. The authors begin with a simple/static problem, focusing on transport within the particle. They go on to consider the high-resolution simulation of particles in a turbulent flow and the time-dependent evolution of the fluid-particle fields. Finally, they examine the more computationally-affordable large-eddy simulation of gas-to-particle mass-transfer. The book ends with a summary and challenges as well as directions for the area.

Book Synopsis Particle-Laden Flow by : Bernard Geurts
Download or read book Particle-Laden Flow written by Bernard Geurts and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-20 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a selection of the papers that were presented at the EUROMECH colloquium on particle-laden flow held at the University of Twente in 2006. The multiscale nature of this challenging field motivated the calling of the colloquium and reflects the central importance that the dispersion of particles in a flow has in various geophysical and environmental problems. The spreading of aerosols and soot in the air, the growth and dispersion of plankton blooms in seas and oceans, or the transport of sediment in rivers, estuaries and coastal regions are striking examples.

This book was released on 2016-07-26 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents an up-to-date review of turbulent two-phase flows with the dispersed phase, with an emphasis on the dynamics in the near-wall region. New insights to the flow physics are provided by direct numerical simuation and by fine experimental techniques. Also included are models of particle dynamics in wall-bounded turbulent flows, and a description of particle surface interactions including muti-layer deposition and re-suspension.
Book Synopsis Simulation of Particle Coagulation in Temporally Developing Mixing Layers by : Sean C. Garrick
Download or read book Simulation of Particle Coagulation in Temporally Developing Mixing Layers written by Sean C. Garrick and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Direct numerical simulation of coagulating aerosols in two-dimensional, mixing layers are performed. The evolution of the particle field is obtained by utilizing a sectional model to approximate the aerosol general dynamic equation. The sectional model is advantageous in that there are no a priori assumptions regarding the particle size distribution. This representation facilitates the capture of the underlying physics in an accurate manner.

Book excerpt: Multiphase mixing in turbulent flows is a key element in many energy conversion and chemical processes. There is considerable need for improving the design and control of these processes. Free turbulent shear flows are the primary agents for particle mixing in these systems. Previous studies by this research group have shown that, if particle coupling effects are neglected, the organized vortex structures generated by these shear flows control the character of the particle mixing process. A coordinated experimental and numerical study is proposed to investigate the coupled effects of droplet mass and energy transfer on the turbulent multiphase mixing process in free shear flows. This study has important implications concerning the design of reacting flow systems. Experimental visualizations of the multiphase flow will be carried out using laser-sheet lighting and high speed photography. Local measurements of droplet size, velocity and concentration diagnostics, will be made with laser anemometry and phase Doppler diagnostics. Complementary analytical and numerical analyses will be carried out to assess the effect of coupling on vortex structure, stability and growth. The results of the proposed research will provide basic understanding concerning the coupled effects of particle concentration on the rate of multiphase mixing in turbulent flows. Information of this nature is essential to the improved designs of engineering systems with particulate or droplet flows.
Download or read book Mixing written by H. Chaté and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A host of international scholars gathered for the NATO Advanced Studies Institute to discuss questions arising from the study of mixing. Although mixing does not have a reputation for being very scientific, the articles in this book analyze it in a scientific manner from the approaches of geometry, kinetics, and structure, addressing questions involving the characterization of the geometry of complex patterns, the time-scale of a process, and the structures involved in the flow.
