Book excerpt: The Conference “Bologna 2000: Structure of the Nucleus at the Dawn of the Century” was devoted to a discipline which has seen a strong revival of research activities in the last decade. New experimental results and theoretical developments in nuclear physics will certainly make important contributions to our knowledge and understanding of Nature's fundamental building blocks. The interest aroused by the Conference among the scientific community was clearly reflected in the large number of participants. These represented the most important nuclear physics laboratories in the world. The Conference covered five major topics of modern nuclear physics: nuclear structure, nucleus-nucleus collisions, hadron dynamics, nuclear astrophysics, and transdisciplinary and peaceful applications of nuclear science. It reviewed recent progress in the field and provided a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects.

Book Synopsis Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Clustering Aspects of Nuclear Structure and Dynamics by : M. Korolija
Download or read book Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Clustering Aspects of Nuclear Structure and Dynamics written by M. Korolija and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past three decades our understanding of the clustering behavior of nucleons in both nuclear structure and nuclear dynamics has evolved considerably. Moreover, the notion of the cluster has made its way into a number of scientific disciplines. This book provides an overview of the current understanding of clustering phenomena in nuclear structure and nuclear dynamics. The topics covered include: fundamental aspects of nuclear clustering, models of nucleon clusterization, clustering aspects of nuclear structure, selected topics on clustering aspects in medium- and high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions.
Book Synopsis Clusters in Nuclei by : Christian Beck
Download or read book Clusters in Nuclei written by Christian Beck and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-09-09 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the pioneering discovery of alpha clustering and of molecular resonances, the field of nuclear clustering is presently one of the domains of heavy-ion nuclear physics facing both the greatest challenges and opportunities. After many summer schools and workshops, in particular over the last decade, the community of nuclear molecular physics decided to team up in producing a comprehensive collection of lectures and tutorial reviews covering the field. This first volume, gathering seven extensive lectures, covers the follow topics: * Cluster Radioactivity * Cluster States and Mean Field Theories * Alpha Clustering and Alpha Condensates * Clustering in Neutron-rich Nuclei * Di-neutron Clustering * Collective Clusterization in Nuclei * Giant Nuclear Molecules By promoting new ideas and developments while retaining a pedagogical nature of presentation throughout, these lectures will both serve as a reference and as advanced teaching material for future courses and schools in the fields of nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics.

Download or read book Probing Nucleons And Nuclei In High Energy Collisions - Proceedings Of The Int Program Int-18-3 written by Alexei Prokudin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-05-29 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains proceedings of the 7-week INT program dedicated to the physics of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), the world's first polarized electron-nucleon (ep) and electron-nucleus (eA) collider to be constructed in the United States. The 2015 NSAC Long Range Plan recommended EIC as the 'highest priority for new facility construction following the completion of FRIB'. The primary goal of the EIC is to establish precise multi-dimensional imaging of quarks and gluons inside nucleons and nuclei. This includes (i) understanding the spatial and momentum space structure of the nucleon through the studies of TMDs (transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions), GPD (generalized parton distributions) and the Wigner distribution; (ii) determining the partonic origin of the nucleon spin; (iii) exploring the new quantum chromodynamics (QCD) frontier of ultra-strong gluon fields, with the potential to seal the discovery of a new form of dense gluon matter predicted to exist in all nuclei and nucleons at small Bjorken x — the parton saturation. The program brought together both theorists and experimentalists from Jefferson Lab (JLab), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) along with the national and international nuclear physics communities to assess and advance the EIC physics.
