SATO and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The one-pion-exchange and two-pion-exchange parts of the S-matrix for nucleon-nucleon scattering are calculate field-theoretically. The rescattering of virtual pions by nucleons and the pion-pion interaction between virtual pions are taken into account. The S-matrix is then decomposed into the partial-wave amplitudes, and the phase shifts are calculated. Numerical evaluations are carried out for the 310-Mev protonproton scattering, and the results are compared with the phase shifts obtained by analyzing the experimental data. Without contribution of the pion-pion interaction, the results are far from agreement with experiment because of too strong attraction arising from the contributions of the two-pion-exchange part, but the contribution of the pion-pion resonance in the I equals J equals 1 state improves the results considerably by largely cancelling the attraction. Definite discrepancies remain between the theory and the experiments, and some unknown effects must play important roles in determining the nuclear force in the region of the internucleon distance around the Compton wave length of the pion. Book Synopsis Pions and Nuclei by : Torleif Erik Oskar Ericson
Download or read book Pions and Nuclei written by Torleif Erik Oskar Ericson and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1988 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pion plays an outstanding role in nuclear physics as a generator of the nuclear force and as an important part of the nuclear many-body problem. At the same time, pion beams are used as probes to explore the nucleus and its interactions. As pion physics has matured over the years, a rich and diverse variety of phenomena has been uncovered. The aim of this book is to examine the underlying physical picture behind these phenomena in a systematic and coherent way. The authors emphasize the interplay between physical concepts and experimental facts more than the formal tools, which are presented in a series of appendices. The book is directed towards advanced students as well as research workers.

Book excerpt: Components other than the one-pion exchange play a role in the interactions of nucleons which are important in pion-nucleon scattering. Especially the rho-meson exchange interaction is crucial in a realistic description.
Book Synopsis The (p,n) Reaction and the Nucleon-Nucleon Force by : Charles D. Goodman

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the "Conference on the (p,n) Reaction and the Nucleon-Nucleon Force" held in Telluride, Colorado, March 29-31, 1979. The idea to hold this conference grew out of a program at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility to study the (p,n) reaction in the 50-200 MeV energy range. The first new Indiana data, in contrast to low energy data, showed features suggestive of a dominant one pion exchange interaction. It seemed desir able to review what was known about the freĀ·e and the effective nucleon-nucleon force and the connection between the low and high energy (p,n) data. Thus the conference was born. The following people served as the organizing committee: S. M. Austin, Michigan State University W. Bertozzi, Massachusetts Institute of Technology S. D. Bloom, Lawrence Livermore Laboratory C. C. Foster, Indiana University C. D. Goodman, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (Conference Chairman) D. A. Lind, University of Colorado J. Rapaport, Ohio University G. R. Satch1er, Oak Ridge National Laboratory G. E. Walker, Indiana University R. L. Walter, Duke University and TUNL The sponsoring organizations were: Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory, Durham, North Carolina Of course, the major credit for the success of the con ference must go to the speakers who diligently prepared their talks that are reproduced in this volume.

This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most fundamental problems in elementary particle physics is the study of the interaction of the pion meson with nucleons. It is believed that the pion meson plays a fundamental role in the description of nuclear forces and it is important, therefore, to understand the interaction of these particles. The primary method of gaining information on this interaction is through scattering experiments, and this book is concerned primarily with studies of pion-nucleon scattering at high energies.
