Book excerpt: Children represent the most vulnerable segment of the population during any disaster, and nuclear war is no exception. Their developing bodies and immune systems are more susceptible to the harmful effects of radiation, and they require special attention to ensure their physical health and psychological well-being. The physiological differences between children and adults mean that radiation exposure can have more severe and lasting impacts on younger individuals. For instance, children's cells divide more rapidly, which can result in higher sensitivity to radiation and increased risk of long-term health issues such as cancer. In addition to the physical dangers, the psychological trauma of experiencing a nuclear event can profoundly affect a child's mental health. Unlike adults, children may not fully comprehend the situation, making it harder for them to process fear and anxiety. This manual emphasizes strategies to provide emotional support and maintain a sense of normalcy in an otherwise chaotic environment. Activities that keep children engaged and routines that provide structure are vital in helping them cope with the upheaval. Furthermore, children depend entirely on adults for their survival needs. This dependency underscores the importance of parents and caregivers being thoroughly prepared to meet the specific requirements of their children during a nuclear emergency. From ensuring adequate nutrition and hydration to providing comfort and reassurance, the role of a caregiver extends far beyond mere physical protection. By focusing on the needs of children, we can develop a comprehensive approach to preparedness that safeguards our future generations.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Nuclear Survival Manual: Bosdec the Concrete Curtain The simple minded man who doesn't have sense enough to come in out of the rain has been the bench mark of stupidity for a long time. He is about to lose his place to the man who doesn't have sense enough to come in out of the fallout. Many people use the stock expression I don't want to live like a mole or a rabbit and dive into a hole when in danger. In effect these people are saying that they don't have as much sense as a rabbit. Why should people be subjected to ridicule for a natural desire to seek protection from danger? A nuclear attack would turn our entire country into a war theatre. Each citizen would become a soldier in a battle for survival. Every army in modern history has dug in for protection. Has any stigma ever been attached to a command to dig foxholes or trenches? What is so sensible about standing out in the open and inviting destruction? Book excerpt: I was an N.C.O. instructor with the Royal Observer Corps for 12 years specialising in the Effects of Nuclear Weapons. I was given exemption from the entry exam due to my level of experience and became a member of the Institute of Civil defence giving me the appellation M.I.C.D. I remained a member between 1987 and 1992. I was for 4 years a North Yorkshire County Council Community Defence Adviser and helped to provide the countries first ever emergency survey of a town to provide an action plan for that community, that town was Harrogate. I also ran my own survival school in North Yorkshire in the 80's as well as a survival club for local kids. I suspect that there are many of you who would wish to be able to protect their families should our enemies decide to explode a 'dirty bomb' on British soil for example. We would I believe be extremely foolish to discount the potential for another Chernobyl or a Fuchishima type incident to occur affecting us here in the UK, Or to suffer our very own British nuclear accident as our nuclear plants grow ever older. This is not forgetting the dangers posed by the now developed long range nuclear weapons held by Iran and Syria, both of which I consider to be rogue states. And not forgetting North Korea and it's threat to launch nuclear missiles. Experiencing a nuclear event is almost impossible for us to contemplate for obvious reasons, as it would be the end of the world. But would it? We as a world have had around 2,000 nuclear test explosions and we are still here, the world has not ended, life goes on, does it not? The question is if you survived the initial effects of a nuclear explosion would you have the knowledge and the skills to survive the residual effects? That is where my Complete Nuclear Survival Guide comes in, as by keeping it with you in your bug-out-bag, you will not only know where to find it but if you bug-out, so along goes this valuable survival information although as you will read later. I actually recommend bugging-in. The Complete Nuclear Survival Guide will give you the facts and figures to SURVIVE!!! Tom W. Linden

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “There are two problems for our species’ survival—nuclear war and environmental catastrophe, ” says Noam Chomsky in this new book on the two existential threats of our time and their points of intersection since World War II. While a nuclear strike would require action, environmental catastrophe is partially defined by willful inaction in response to human-induced climate change. Denial of the facts is only half the equation. Other contributing factors include extreme techniques for the extraction of remaining carbon deposits, the elimination of agricultural land for bio-fuel, the construction of dams, and the destruction of forests that are crucial for carbon sequestration. On the subject of current nuclear tensions, Chomsky revisits the long-established option of a nuclear-weapon-free zone (NWFZ) in the Middle East, a proposal set in motion through a joint Egyptian Iranian General Assembly resolution in 1974. Intended as a warning, Nuclear War and Environmental Catastrophe is also a reminder that talking about the unspeakable can still be done with humor, with wit and indomitable spirit.
