Book Synopsis Literature 1982, Part 2 by : Siegfried Böhme
Download or read book Literature 1982, Part 2 written by Siegfried Böhme and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 857 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts, which has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969, is devoted to the recording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. It is prepared under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documenta tion of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Every effort will be made to ensure that the average time interval between the date of receipt of the original literature and publication of the abstracts will not exceed eight months. This time interval is near to that achieved by monthly abstracting journals, compared to which our system of accumu lating abstracts for about six months offers the advantage of greater convenience for the user. Volume 32 contains literature published in 1982 and received before February 11, 1983; some older literature which was received late and which is not recorded in earlier volumes is also included. We acknowledge with thanks contributions to this volume by Dr. J. Bou~a, Prague, who surveyed journals and publications in Czech and supplied us with abstracts in English.
Book Synopsis Relativistic Astrophysics by : Harald Riffert
Download or read book Relativistic Astrophysics written by Harald Riffert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the first decades after Einstein had developed his Theory of General Relativity, the main effort was to understand the theory and verify it experimentically. Meanwhile Genral Relativity is one of the experimentally best confirmed theories and has become a powerful tool for the investigation of cosmic processes where strong gravitational fields are involved. This book contains 16 contributions from well-known experts giving a broad overview for non-specialists who want to learn how to purely academic issues like gravitational wave detectors are now put into reality.

Book Synopsis Science with Adaptive Optics by : Wolfgang Brandner
Download or read book Science with Adaptive Optics written by Wolfgang Brandner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-04-11 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of Adaptive Optics (AO) for astronomy has matured in recent years, and diffraction-limited image resolution in the near-infrared is now routinely achieved by ground-based 8 to 10m class telescopes. This book presents the proceedings of the ESO Workshop on Science with Adaptive Optics held in the fall of 2003. The book provides an overview on AO instrumentation, data acquisition and reduction strategies, and covers observations of the sun, solar system objects, circumstellar disks, substellar companions, HII regions, starburst environments, late-type stars, the galactic center, active galaxies, and quasars. The contributions present a vivid picture of the multitude of science topics being addressed by AO in observational astronomy.
Book Synopsis Turbulence and Magnetic Fields in Astrophysics by : Edith Falgarone
Download or read book Turbulence and Magnetic Fields in Astrophysics written by Edith Falgarone and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-03-11 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains review articles of most of the topics addressed at the conf- ence on Simulations of Magnetohydrodynamic turbulence in astrophysics: recent achievements and perspectives which took place from July 2 to 6, 2001 at the Institut Henri Poincar ́e in Paris. We made the choice to publish these lectures in a tutorial form so that they can be read by a broad audience. As a result, this book does not give an exhaustive view of all the subjects addressed during the conference. The main objective of this workshop which gathered about 90 scientists from di?erent ?elds, was to present and confront recent results on the topic of t- bulence in magnetized astrophysical environments. A second objective was to discuss the latest generation of numerical codes, such as those using adaptive mesh re?nement (AMR) techniques. During a plenary discussion at the end of the workshop discussions were held on several topics, often at the heart of vivid controversies. Topics included the timescale for the dissipation of magneto-hydrodynamical (MHD) turbulence, the role of boundary conditions, the characteristics of imbalanced turbulence, the validity of the polytropic approach to Alfv ́en waves support within interst- lar clouds, the source of turbulence inside clouds devoid of stellar activity, the timescale for star formation, the Alfv ́en Mach number of interstellar gas motions, the formation process for helical ?elds in the interstellar medium. The impact of small upon large scales was also discussed.
