This is a mere delusion. Cases of severe deformity are not very com mon in any class, but they are probably at least as common among the poor as among the well-to-do. Slighter cases are common enough in the social strata from which hospital out-patients are derived. But they very rarely present themselves on account of the spinal curvature: that will be over looked altogether, unless the physician himself discovers it in the course of examination begun with reference to some other ailment. We must begin prophylaxis when we can see any indication for the same at any time before the period of labor. Any condition or dis ease, local or constitutional, that lowers the vitality of the patient or furnishes a nidus for bacteria certainly predisposes f0 infection, and we may include auto-intoxication in the list. These should be met by proper therapeutic, surgical and hygienic measures and if possible relieved or cured. Any abnormal secretion from the vagina calls for proper treatment as soon as recognized. Three or four sutures are usually sufficient for each side. A little care is required in passing the one through the crown of the cervix and approximating the edges of the 08. If the sutures for both sides be passed before securing any of them, much difficulty will be avoided. An undue ow of blood may usually be checked bv tightening the tourniquet, when one is used.
