Book Synopsis Best Care at Lower Cost by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Best Care at Lower Cost written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-05-10 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's health care system has become too complex and costly to continue business as usual. Best Care at Lower Cost explains that inefficiencies, an overwhelming amount of data, and other economic and quality barriers hinder progress in improving health and threaten the nation's economic stability and global competitiveness. According to this report, the knowledge and tools exist to put the health system on the right course to achieve continuous improvement and better quality care at a lower cost. The costs of the system's current inefficiency underscore the urgent need for a systemwide transformation. About 30 percent of health spending in 2009-roughly $750 billion-was wasted on unnecessary services, excessive administrative costs, fraud, and other problems. Moreover, inefficiencies cause needless suffering. By one estimate, roughly 75,000 deaths might have been averted in 2005 if every state had delivered care at the quality level of the best performing state. This report states that the way health care providers currently train, practice, and learn new information cannot keep pace with the flood of research discoveries and technological advances. About 75 million Americans have more than one chronic condition, requiring coordination among multiple specialists and therapies, which can increase the potential for miscommunication, misdiagnosis, potentially conflicting interventions, and dangerous drug interactions. Best Care at Lower Cost emphasizes that a better use of data is a critical element of a continuously improving health system, such as mobile technologies and electronic health records that offer significant potential to capture and share health data better. In order for this to occur, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, IT developers, and standard-setting organizations should ensure that these systems are robust and interoperable. Clinicians and care organizations should fully adopt these technologies, and patients should be encouraged to use tools, such as personal health information portals, to actively engage in their care. This book is a call to action that will guide health care providers; administrators; caregivers; policy makers; health professionals; federal, state, and local government agencies; private and public health organizations; and educational institutions.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Magnetic Materials by : K.H.J. Buschow
Download or read book Handbook of Magnetic Materials written by K.H.J. Buschow and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 13 of the Handbook of Magnetic Materials, as the preceding volumes, has a dual purpose. As a textbook it is intended to be of assistance to those who wish to be introduced to a given topic in the field of magnetism without the need to read the vast amount of literature published. As a work of reference it is intended for scientists active in magnetism research. To this dual purpose, Volume 13 of the Handbook is composed of topical review articles written by leading authorities. In each of these articles an extensive description is given in graphical as well as in tabular form, much emphasis being placed on the discussion of the experimental material in the framework of physics, chemistry and material science. In Chapter 1 of this volume a general review of the experimental work on interlayer exchange coupling is presented along with a discussion of the current understanding of this field. There exists an extensive amount of scientific efforts devoted to 4f and 5f systems, including experimental and theoretical, as well as basic and applied research. Chapter 2 aims at reviewing a part of these efforts from the viewpoint of microscopic theory. Special attention is paid to the many new developments in the field. One of the intentions is to bring to the fore the darker areas of DFT theory applications. A review of novel experimental results and first-principle energy-band calculations of MOKE spectra will be presented in Chapter 3. Conventional co-operative phenomena, such as long-range order and elementary excitation, have realisations in nonmagnetic situations. This applies also to the phenomena of geometrical frustration. In Chapter 4 this topic is addressed by developing the basic principles underlying the magnetic phenomena.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adult Audiologic Rehabilitation, Third Edition is an advanced textbook for doctoral level audiology students that focuses solely on adults with a completely international perspective. It is the only advanced text to meet the need for the high level of preparation required for doctoral level training. It is also an essential resource for practicing clinicians looking for a complete reference on the latest techniques and technologies. With ever changing technology and new methodologies in client care, the third edition of Adult Audiologic Rehabilitation is a critical resource to audiology education. The book covers definitions of audiologic rehabilitation, an overview of the area, psychosocial impact of hearing loss, assessment strategies, current technologies, treatment methodologies, e-technologies, research needs, and special issues in audiologic rehabilitation. It has been deliberately structured to move the reader from introduction, to specific details of the specialty of audiologic rehabilitation, to providing insights into characteristics of this patient population, and thence to a framework for assessment and treatment of the impact of hearing loss. New to the Third Edition: Thoroughly updated, this edition includes eight new chapters and revisions to nineteen chapters that include updated content, references, figures and tables. New topics include: * Hearing Health-Seeking Behavior * Social Factors in Hearing Aids * Improving Patient Adherence * Multimedia Educational Resources * Family-Centered Care * Patient Narratives in Audiology * E-health and M-health for Audiologic Rehabilitation * Community Outreach This edition welcomes contributions from new authors including: Abbey L. Berg, Melanie Ferguson, Stefan Launer, Alessia Paglialonga, Gabrielle Saunders, Nerina Scarinci, Gurjit Singh, Nancy Tye- Murray, Barbra Timmer, Emilie Zaslow, and a foreword by Arthur Boothroyd. Download or read book The Radical Right written by Klaus Wahl and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-31 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the rise in xenophobia, racism, and radical right political parties, movements, and violent groups over recent years. The author provides a summary of the current state of international and interdisciplinary research on the multilevel explanations of right-wing radical thought, comparing similarities and differences across Europe and the United States. By integrating findings from psychology, history, social and life sciences, he proposes a biopsychosociological model of the conditions, causes, catalysts, and triggers of phenomena of the radical right across the world. Following a ‘demand’ and ‘supply’ analysis, Wahl explores the interaction of evolutionary emotional mechanisms and socialization processes with various environmental conditions, and consequent manifestations of radical right groups, to identify strategies to slow down the rise and effects of the radical right.
