Download or read book Mirror of the Soul written by Tania M. DeVizia and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mirror of the Soul is a reference to the precious metal silver and its superior reflective abilities. Silver jewelry reflects ones personality and silver instruments, which render the purest tones, have the ability to reflect ones soul. Classical flutist Tania M. DeVizia uses her silver flute as a tool to connect with the divine and thus mirror her soul. In this book, she merges theology and science, time and eternity and hands-on healing with sound healing. She analyzes and reflects upon the five roles of Jesus when he walked this earth and describes the manner in which music and art mirror His roles of Good Shepherd, Healer and Miracle Worker, Carpenter and Stone Mason, Fisher of Men and Son of God. Her text reflects her quest for truth. She believes we have an innate desire to reflect the highest ideals of the Creator in all our works of art. The words on these pages mirror the soul of a flutist who enjoys listening, observing, analyzing, hearing, and sharing her insights with others.
Book Synopsis The Librettist of Venice by : Rodney Bolt
Download or read book The Librettist of Venice written by Rodney Bolt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2008-12-11 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1805, Lorenzo Da Ponte was the proprietor of a small grocery store in New York. But since his birth into an Italian Jewish family in 1749, he had already been a priest, a poet, the lover of many women, a scandalous Enlightenment thinker banned from teaching in Venice, the librettist for three of Mozart's most sublime operas, a collaborator with Salieri, a friend of Casanova, and a favorite of Emperor Joseph II. He would go on to establish New York City's first opera house and be the first professor of Italian at Columbia University. An inspired innovator but a hopeless businessman, who loved with wholehearted loyalty and recklessness, Da Ponte was one of the early immigrants to live out the American dream. In Rodney Bolt's rollicking and extensively researched biography, Da Ponte's picaresque life takes readers from Old World courts and the back streets of Venice, Vienna, and London to the New World promise of New York City. Two hundred and fifty years after Mozart's birth, the life and legacy of his librettist Da Ponte are as astonishing as ever.
Book Synopsis Le nozze di Figaro by : Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Download or read book Le nozze di Figaro written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and published by Alma Books. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Wells introduces the opera with a high-spirited account of the action-packed career of the author, in many respects the prototype of Figaro himself. Basil Deane explores the score: he shows that Mozart's characters are illuminated here not so much in soliloquies but in their reactions to each other. Composer Stephen Oliver discusses how the comedy exists not just in the words but, essentially, in the music. The full Italian text is given, with a note on the order of scenes in Act Three and the alternative passages Mozart wrote for the 1789 revival. The classic translation of E.J. Dent is an excellent way to get to know the twists and turns of the plot and the stylish wit of da Ponte's innuendos.Contents: A Society Marriage, John Wells; A Musical Commentary, Basil Deane; Music and Comedy in 'The Marriage of Figaro, Stephen Oliver; Beaumarchais's Characters; Le nozze di Figaro: Libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte; The Marriage of Figaro: English version by Edward J. Book Synopsis Education as a Political Tool in Asia by : Marie Lall
Download or read book Education as a Political Tool in Asia written by Marie Lall and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2010-06-30 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a fresh and comparative approach in questioning what education is being used for and what the effects of the politicisation of education are on Asian societies in the era of globalisation. Education has been used as a political tool throughout the ages and across the whole world to define national identity and underlie the political rationale of regimes. In the contemporary, globalising world there are particularly interesting examples of this throughout Asia, ranging from the new definition of Indian national identity as a Hindu identity (to contrast with Pakistan's Islamic identity), to particular versions of nationalism in China, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam. In Asia education systems have their origins in processes of state formation aimed either at bolstering 'self-strengthening' resistance to the encroachments of Western and/or Asian imperialism, or at furthering projects of post-colonial nation-building. State elites have sought to popularise powerful visions of nationhood, to equip these visions with a historical 'back-story', and to endow them with the maximum sentimental charge. This book explores all of these developments, emphasising that education is seen by nations across Asia, as elsewhere, as more than simply a tool for economic development, and that issues of national identity and the tolerance - or lack of it - of ethnic, cultural or religious diversity can be at least as important as issues of literacy and access. Interdisciplinary and unique in its analysis, this book will be of interest to scholars of political science, research in education and Asian Studies.
