This book was released on 2014-08-28 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical Modelling of Aeroheating on Sharpened Noses under Rarefied Gas Effects and Nonequilibrium Real Gas Effects employs a theoretical modeling method to study hypersonic flows and aeroheating on sharpened noses under rarefied gas effects and nonequilibrium real gas effects that are beyond the scope of traditional fluid mechanics. It reveals the nonlinear and nonequilibrium features, discusses the corresponding flow and heat transfer mechanisms, and ultimately establishes an analytical engineering theory framework for hypersonic rarefied and chemical nonequilibrium flows. The original analytical findings presented are not only of great academic significance, but also hold considerable potential for applications in engineering practice. The study explores a viable new approach, beyond the heavily relied-upon numerical methods and empirical formulas, to the present research field, which could be regarded as a successful implementation of the idea and methodology of the engineering sciences.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The High Temperature Aspects of Hypersonic Flow is a record of the proceedings of the AGARD-NATO Specialists' Meeting, held at the Technical Centre for Experimental Aerodynamics, Rhode-Saint-Genese, Belgium in April 1962. The book contains the papers presented during the meeting that tackled a broad range of topics in the aspects of hypersonic flow. The subjects covered during the meeting include pressure measurements, interference effects, the use of wind tunnels in aircraft development testing, high temperature gas characteristics, boundary layer research, stability and control and the use of rocket vehicles in flight research. Aerospace engineers and aeronautical engineers will find the book invaluable.

Book Synopsis A Technique for Determining Relaxation Times by Free-Flight Tests of Low-Fineness-Ratio Cones; With Experimental Results for Air at Equilibrium Temperatures Up to 3440 K by : Jack D. Stephenson

Stephenson and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a technique which combines theory and experiments for determining relaxation times in gases. The technique is based on the measurement of shapes of the bow shock waves of low-fineness-ratio cones fired from high-velocity guns. The theory presented in the report provides a means by which shadowgraph data showing the bow waves can be analyzed so as to furnish effective relaxation times. Relaxation times in air were obtained by this technique and the results have been compared with values estimated from shock tube measurements in pure oxygen and nitrogen. The tests were made at velocities ranging from 4600 to 12,000 feet per second corresponding to equilibrium temperatures from 35900 R (19900 K) to 6200 R (34400 K), under which conditions, at all but the highest temperatures, the effective relaxation times were determined primarily by the relaxation time for oxygen and nitrogen vibrations.

Book Synopsis Progress in Aeronautical Sciences by : D. Küchemann
Download or read book Progress in Aeronautical Sciences written by D. Küchemann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-07-04 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Aeronautical Sciences, Volume 6 reviews advances in aeronautical sciences and considers a wide range of problems related to aerodynamics, including some classical problems of fluid motion and those affecting hypersonic aircraft. Topics covered range from equations of gas flow at low density; nonequilibrium expansion flows of dissociated oxygen and ionized argon around a corner; and the role of spatially growing waves in the theory of hydrodynamic stability. This volume is comprised of five chapters and begins with a discussion on flows of gases where the density of the gas is too low for equations of continuum gas dynamics to be applicable. The kinetic theory of gases is used to derive the equations governing such flows. The second chapter deals with the nature of shock waves in flows of electrically conducting gases subjected to magnetic fields. The third chapter is concerned with the theory of two-dimensional flows of dissociated oxygen or ionized argon expanding around a corner. The fourth chapter goes back to the classical problem of hydrodynamic stability and the possible mechanics underlying the transition from the laminar to a turbulent state of the flow. The last chapter describes a future type of aircraft that can fly at hypersonic speeds. This book will be a useful resource for students and practitioners in the field of aeronautics.
