Book excerpt: We tried what English call 'gap year' convinced to get the best out of it with a long travel around the world. From our perspective travelling was something unavoidable, an enriching experience in life's process to become grown-ups. We left home for five months with an open 'round the world' flight ticket, two backpacks each and reservation only for the first night in Mumbai. It was not to be holiday everyday but a long searching for accomodations, connections and sites, because we were going to be rovers carrying everything we had on our shoulders. We went out around the world in six jumps, going eastbound choosing India as first jump, while Thailand came second. Leaving Asia and its exotic appeal, New Zealand was a coming back to western society, while Chile was for us our door to South America. Santiago, San Pedro de Atacama, Puerto Montt, Valparaiso: sixteen days of chases on semicama buses and night travels for 6400 kilometers from the almost antarctica wild south to a salty almost desert north.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a Sunday afternoon in the spring of 1969, thousands of people defied Auckland city bylaws and came to party in Albert Park. A rock band played on the rotunda. Some people held hands, some danced alone, some sat under trees with guitars, flutes and bongos and made music of their own. They wore kaftans, ponchos and leather-fringed jerkins, floppy hats, headbands, beads and flowers. Poetry and political diatribes were delivered from a podium, improvised from an upturned tea chest. There were bikies, balloons, bubbles, sack races and a lolly scramble, lots of dogs and a pet possum. Someone brought a canoe and paddled it around the fountain, until it capsized. As the afternoon wore on there were joss sticks, skyrockets and what some will have recognised as the musky smell of marijuana. . . —From the PrologueIn Jumping Sundays, award-winning writer and broadcaster Nick Bollinger tells the story of beards and bombs, freaks and firebrands, self-destruction and self-realisation, during a turbulent period in New Zealand's history and culture.

Book excerpt: An inspiring memoir by England netball star and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Geva Mentor. **Includes an exclusive 15% discount code for Gilbert Netball** Geva Mentor is the best netballer in the world. In her honest, open and inspiring autobiography, Leap, she sheds light on her journey to the top. As a child Geva was a naturally gifted athlete, standing out at 5'10" at the age of twelve. She began life as a champion trampolinist, but when she outgrew the sport, literally, she found she had to try something new. This led her to basketball, but the boys on the other teams complained - she was just too good. Making up the numbers for an impromptu netball match one day at the age of thirteen she found her home in netball - or rather it found her. From here, Geva's rise amongst the ranks of British netball was stratospheric, she was playing for the England senior team when she was just fifteen years old. Taking risks and forging the way for other athletes Geva moved to Australia to develop her game by playing in the best league in the world and eventually winning Commonwealth gold with the England Roses. However, it's not all been easy, both on and off the court, and Geva talks honestly about her personal life, and how the difficulties and failures of her teams, both international and domestic, have driven her on to achieve the highest possible success in the sport.

Book excerpt: With some 50,000 men and women competing worldwide, and spectators numbering in the tens of thousands, Masters-level track and field proves that athletes of any age may be recognized by their passion for sports, their interest in fitness, and their skill. In this book-length account of track and field competition by men over 40 and women over 35, the leaders of the Masters program discuss its growth since 1968 and the role of the older athlete in the world of sport. The work also reviews the effects of aging on performance and explains the adjustments of standards and scoring.
