Download or read book From Classical Analysis to Analysis on Fractals written by Patricia Alonso Ruiz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-25 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the course of his distinguished career, Robert Strichartz (1943-2021) had a substantial impact on the field of analysis with his deep, original results in classical harmonic, functional, and spectral analysis, and in the newly developed analysis on fractals. This is the first volume of a tribute to his work and legacy, featuring chapters that reflect his mathematical interests, written by his colleagues and friends. An introductory chapter summarizes his broad and varied mathematical work and highlights his profound contributions as a mathematical mentor. The remaining articles are grouped into three sections – functional and harmonic analysis on Euclidean spaces, analysis on manifolds, and analysis on fractals – and explore Strichartz’ contributions to these areas, as well as some of the latest developments.

Book Synopsis Foundations of Free Noncommutative Function Theory by : Dmitry S. Kaliuzhnyi-Verbovetskyi
Download or read book Foundations of Free Noncommutative Function Theory written by Dmitry S. Kaliuzhnyi-Verbovetskyi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors develop a theory of free noncommutative functions, in both algebraic and analytic settings. Such functions are defined as mappings from square matrices of all sizes over a module (in particular, a vector space) to square matrices over another module, which respect the size, direct sums, and similarities of matrices. Examples include, but are not limited to, noncommutative polynomials, power series, and rational expressions. Motivation and inspiration for using the theory of free noncommutative functions often comes from free probability. An important application area is "dimensionless" matrix inequalities; these arise, e.g., in various optimization problems of system engineering. Among other related areas are those of polynomial identities in rings, formal languages and finite automata, quasideterminants, noncommutative symmetric functions, operator spaces and operator algebras, and quantum control.
Book Synopsis Noncommutative Function-Theoretic Operator Theory and Applications by : Joseph A. Ball
Download or read book Noncommutative Function-Theoretic Operator Theory and Applications written by Joseph A. Ball and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-16 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise monograph explores how core ideas in Hardy space function theory and operator theory continue to be useful and informative in new settings, leading to new insights for noncommutative multivariable operator theory. Beginning with a review of the confluence of system theory ideas and reproducing kernel techniques, the book then covers representations of backward-shift-invariant subspaces in the Hardy space as ranges of observability operators, and representations for forward-shift-invariant subspaces via a Beurling–Lax representer equal to the transfer function of the linear system. This pair of backward-shift-invariant and forward-shift-invariant subspace form a generalized orthogonal decomposition of the ambient Hardy space. All this leads to the de Branges–Rovnyak model theory and characteristic operator function for a Hilbert space contraction operator. The chapters that follow generalize the system theory and reproducing kernel techniques to enable an extension of the ideas above to weighted Bergman space multivariable settings.
Book Synopsis Noncommutative Functional Calculus by : Fabrizio Colombo
Download or read book Noncommutative Functional Calculus written by Fabrizio Colombo and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a functional calculus for n-tuples of not necessarily commuting linear operators. In particular, a functional calculus for quaternionic linear operators is developed. These calculi are based on a new theory of hyperholomorphicity for functions with values in a Clifford algebra: the so-called slice monogenic functions which are carefully described in the book. In the case of functions with values in the algebra of quaternions these functions are named slice regular functions. Except for the appendix and the introduction all results are new and appear for the first time organized in a monograph. The material has been carefully prepared to be as self-contained as possible. The intended audience consists of researchers, graduate and postgraduate students interested in operator theory, spectral theory, hypercomplex analysis, and mathematical physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book features new directions in analysis, with an emphasis on Hilbert space, mathematical physics, and stochastic processes. We interpret "non-commutative analysis" broadly to include representations of non-Abelian groups, and non-Abelian algebras; emphasis on Lie groups and operator algebras (C* algebras and von Neumann algebras.) A second theme is commutative and non-commutative harmonic analysis, spectral theory, operator theory and their applications. The list of topics includes shift invariant spaces, group action in differential geometry, and frame theory (over-complete bases) and their applications to engineering (signal processing and multiplexing), projective multi-resolutions, and free probability algebras. The book serves as an accessible introduction, offering a timeless presentation, attractive and accessible to students, both in mathematics and in neighboring fields.

Book Synopsis Hypercomplex Analysis: New Perspectives and Applications by : Swanhild Bernstein
Download or read book Hypercomplex Analysis: New Perspectives and Applications written by Swanhild Bernstein and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-10 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hypercomplex analysis is the extension of complex analysis to higher dimensions where the concept of a holomorphic function is substituted by the concept of a monogenic function. In recent decades this theory has come to the forefront of higher dimensional analysis. There are several approaches to this: quaternionic analysis which merely uses quaternions, Clifford analysis which relies on Clifford algebras, and generalizations of complex variables to higher dimensions such as split-complex variables. This book includes a selection of papers presented at the session on quaternionic and hypercomplex analysis at the ISAAC conference 2013 in Krakow, Poland. The topics covered represent new perspectives and current trends in hypercomplex analysis and applications to mathematical physics, image analysis and processing, and mechanics.

Book Synopsis Regular Functions of a Quaternionic Variable by : Graziano Gentili
Download or read book Regular Functions of a Quaternionic Variable written by Graziano Gentili and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-23 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book surveys the foundations of the theory of slice regular functions over the quaternions, introduced in 2006, and gives an overview of its generalizations and applications. As in the case of other interesting quaternionic function theories, the original motivations were the richness of the theory of holomorphic functions of one complex variable and the fact that quaternions form the only associative real division algebra with a finite dimension n>2. (Slice) regular functions quickly showed particularly appealing features and developed into a full-fledged theory, while finding applications to outstanding problems from other areas of mathematics. For instance, this class of functions includes polynomials and power series. The nature of the zero sets of regular functions is particularly interesting and strictly linked to an articulate algebraic structure, which allows several types of series expansion and the study of singularities. Integral representation formulas enrich the theory and are fundamental to the construction of a noncommutative functional calculus. Regular functions have a particularly nice differential topology and are useful tools for the construction and classification of quaternionic orthogonal complex structures, where they compensate for the scarcity of conformal maps in dimension four. This second, expanded edition additionally covers a new branch of the theory: the study of regular functions whose domains are not axially symmetric. The volume is intended for graduate students and researchers in complex or hypercomplex analysis and geometry, function theory, and functional analysis in general.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Noncommutative Algebra by : Matej Brešar
Download or read book Introduction to Noncommutative Algebra written by Matej Brešar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing an elementary introduction to noncommutative rings and algebras, this textbook begins with the classical theory of finite dimensional algebras. Only after this, modules, vector spaces over division rings, and tensor products are introduced and studied. This is followed by Jacobson's structure theory of rings. The final chapters treat free algebras, polynomial identities, and rings of quotients. Many of the results are not presented in their full generality. Rather, the emphasis is on clarity of exposition and simplicity of the proofs, with several being different from those in other texts on the subject. Prerequisites are kept to a minimum, and new concepts are introduced gradually and are carefully motivated. Introduction to Noncommutative Algebra is therefore accessible to a wide mathematical audience. It is, however, primarily intended for beginning graduate and advanced undergraduate students encountering noncommutative algebra for the first time.
