Oxford Studies in Metaphysics is a forum for the best new work in this flourishing field. OSM offers a broad view of the subject, featuring not only the traditionally central topics such as existence, identity, modality, time, and causation, but also the rich clusters of metaphysical questions in neighbouring fields, such as philsophy of mind and philosophy of science. Besides independent essays, volumes will often contain a critical essay on a recent book, or a symposium that allows participants to respond to one another's criticisms and questions. Anyone who wants to know what's happening in metaphysics can start here.
Book Synopsis What the Bible Says About... by : Scott Dalton Myers
Download or read book What the Bible Says About... written by Scott Dalton Myers and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-02-12 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible--God's inspired, unerring, and infallible Word--is truly His instruction manual for life and a moral compass for us all to live by. It tells us what is good, what is bad, what is right, and what is wrong. Unfortunately, many people believe that the Bible is no longer relevant today and was only applicable in biblical times. The Bible itself tells us quite the opposite. The issues and problems we face today are essentially the same as those faced by man in biblical times. Human nature has not changed, and God has not changed! Only the times have changed. The Bible has plenty to say about the issues people encounter every day, from the beginning of life to the end of life. I have addressed many of these in this book: "The Evidence of God's Existence;" "Who Was and Is Jesus;" "Being Saved;" "Forgiveness;" "Trials and Tribulations;" "What Happens When You Die;" "Families and Fathers;" "Humility;" "Worrying;" "Depression;" "The Environment and Nature;" "Racism;" "Abortion;" "Homosexuality;" "Adultery;" "Transgenderism;" "Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction;" "The Death Penalty;" "The Right to Bear Arms;" "Government;" "Leadership;" "Man's Laws and God's Laws;" "Suicide;" "Money and the Rich;" "Natural Disasters;" "Satan;" "Demons and the Supernatural; "Creation, the Biblical Timeline, and the Age of the Universe;" and others. People today are pretty much the same as people were in biblical times. Basic human nature and the human condition (being born into sin) have not changed. We face the same challenges, the same temptations, and the same trials and tribulations as the early Christians did. The Bible contains advice and guidance on every possible issue or situation we face, if we only look to it for that guidance and direction and pray to God for wisdom and discernment. In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. (Titus 1:2) That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. (Hebrews 6:18) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. (Isaiah 40:8) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8-9) For I am the Lord, I change not. (Malachi 3:6) Finally, you/we should read the Bible like a love letter, not a textbook! John 3:16 tells us, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Download or read book Bob Dylan written by Lee Marshall and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-24 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bob Dylan’s contribution to popular music is immeasurable. Venerated as rock’s one true genius, Dylan is considered responsible for introducing a new range of topics and new lyrical complexity into popular music. Without Bob Dylan, rock critic Dave Marsh once claimed, there would be no popular music as we understand it today. As such an exalted figure, Dylan has been the subject of countless books and intricate scholarship considering various dimensions of both the man and his music. This book places new emphasis on Dylan as a rock star. Whatever else Dylan is, he is a star – iconic, charismatic, legendary, enigmatic. No one else in popular music has maintained such star status for so long a period of time. Showing how theories of stardom can help us understand both Bob Dylan and the history of rock music, Lee Marshall provides new insight into how Dylan’s songs acquire meaning and affects his relationship with his fans, his critics and the recording industry. Marshall discusses Dylan’s emergence as a star in the folk revival (the “spokesman for a generation”) and the formative role that Dylan plays in creating a new type of music – rock – and a new type of star. Bringing the book right up to date, he also sheds new light on how Dylan’s later career has been shaped by his earlier star image and how Dylan repeatedly tried to throw off the limitations and responsibilities of his stardom. The book concludes by considering the revival of Dylan over the past ten years and how Dylan’s stardom has developed in a way that contains, but is not overshadowed by, his achievements in the 1960s.

Book excerpt: In light of today’s extensive use of digital communication, this volume focuses on how to understand and manage the various types of linguistically-based products that facilitate the use and extraction of information. Including conceptual and terminological databases, digital dictionaries, thesauri, language corpora, and ontologies, they all contribute to the development and improvement of language industries, such as those devoted to automatic translation, knowledge management, knowledge retrieval, linguistic data analysis, and so on. As the theoretical background underlying these applications is outlined in detail in the earlier chapters of the book, the reader is able to establish the necessary links between the various but related kinds of linguistic –and, in particular, semantic– applications. A general review of several theories and linguistic models that influence the practical application of Meaning studies to the new technologies is also included. Book Synopsis Studies in Philology by : Maria del Mar Jiménez-Cervantes Arnao
Download or read book Studies in Philology written by Maria del Mar Jiménez-Cervantes Arnao and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-05 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies are the three main research areas within Philology. Scientific production, such as conferences and journals, has tended towards specialization, and has been traditionally classified according to separate disciplines and languages. However, this volume offers a holistic view of the wide area of Philology, therefore allowing the permeability of the three areas mentioned above. As such, this book shows that the line that separates Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies is actually very thin. This volume is composed of a miscellanea of philological studies dealing with various trends in Modern Language research. It looks at three languages in particular: Spanish, English and French, with a special relevance to the first two.
Book Synopsis Research Methods in Vocabulary Studies by : Philip Durrant
Download or read book Research Methods in Vocabulary Studies written by Philip Durrant and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2022-09-15 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding vocabulary and its role in language learning is one of the central tasks of applied linguistic research. It is also an area that has seen, and continues to see, huge progress in terms of the complexity and diversity of work being done. While this makes for a rich and exciting research scene, it can also make the task of developing vocabulary research skills a daunting one as specialist subfields develop ever more sophisticated concepts and methods. This book aims to give readers an understanding of the area that is both detailed and rounded by introducing them to understanding and doing vocabulary research from four key perspectives: corpus linguistics, psycholinguistics, language testing, and teaching and learning. Within each area, a state-of-the-art review describes fundamental concepts and commonly used methods, evaluates ongoing methodological debates, and points to areas for future development. It aims both to give readers a solid grounding in the specialized methods and debates associated with each area and to build connections across these specializations, considering points of contact and ways in which they can work together.

This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As you have noticed, the theme of the book is about trying to get people to read the Bible for themselves in a good translation; you have probably noticed that I only use the KJV, and you must have noticed why, and now I have to say (only the old version) as I have picked up a new translation and seen that Satan has got his hands on that too, as in Luke 2:33, which says that Joseph was the father of Jesus Christ. Now, why do the learning people let them get away with it? I only have a ninth-grade education, and if I can see this, just think what people could do if they really read the Bible for themselves...An old pastor friend of mine once said to me, "The Bible means at least what it says, and probably more." Thank you
Download or read book Cultural Studies written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-09-12 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume claims that interdisciplinarity and translation constitute the two main ‘challenges’ for cultural studies today. These conceptual issues (‘inter’ and ‘trans’) express themselves within specific historical and ‘cultural’ contexts. Interdisciplinarity is linked with the ongoing process of the institutionalisation of cultural studies in national academies, but also increasingly internationally, comparatively and to a certain extent even globally (cf. cultural studies of ‘global culture’). Translation concerns cultural studies both as an object or product and as a subject or producer of translation processes. Cultural studies is the result of translation, translates and is being translated. The essays in this volume therefore relate these various ongoing cultural, linguistic and institutional translation processes to political and ethical issues of internationalisation and globalisation. The contributions draw their originality and strength from strategically crossing, disciplinary and national boundaries. They deliberately ignore the question of what may be ‘proper’ (to) cultural studies, and instead problematise the notions of ‘propriety’ and ‘belonging’. As a ‘reading practice’ cultural studies, in these pages, is performed through adaptations and combinations of theory and critical practice. The volume should be of interest to everyone concerned with cultural studies’ role in promoting intellectual debate within an increasingly international and ‘globalised’ public sphere.
