Book Synopsis Testing Qcd Through Spin Observables In Nuclear Targets by : Jian-ping Chen
Download or read book Testing Qcd Through Spin Observables In Nuclear Targets written by Jian-ping Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-01-16 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the invited talks and contributed papers presented at the workshop on “Testing QCD Through Spin Observables in Nuclear Targets”, held at the University of Virginia in April 2002.The workshop was proposed in the context of the large number of experiments that have used polarized deuterons or polarized 3He to extract information about the spin parameters of the neutron. The motivation for this workshop was to study the effects of the nuclear medium on the spin properties of the bound nucleon and to explore issues in QCD that might be resolved through spin observables in nuclear targets: What is the effect of the nuclear medium on the measured asymmetries? How have the latest results on the spin structure of the nucleon and the nucleon form factors changed our thinking? What advances are anticipated in the development of polarized targets?
Book Synopsis Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics by : Zohreh Parsa
Download or read book Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics written by Zohreh Parsa and published by American Inst. of Physics. This book was released on 2004-03-09 with total page 884 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this meeting, as with the seven previous conferences in this series, was to bring together particle and nuclear physicists to share scientific reports and discuss areas of research which overlap both their disciplines. Its relevance has steadily grown as the areas of overlap between particle and nuclear physics have increased. In addition, the success of the standard model has provided a common underpinning for both disciplines as well as similar fundamental goals. Indeed, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) has proven to be "the" theory of strong interactions. As such, it forms the basis for nuclear physics as well as high energy hadronic interactions. Topics included are: QCD spectroscopy and dynamics, relativistic heavy ions, QCD and nuclear structure, lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron scattering, heavy quark and heavy lepton physics, spin physics, nuclear and particle astrophysics, neutrinos, accelerators, facilities and detectors, as well as tests of fundamental symmetries.

Download or read book NSTAR 2001 written by Lothar Tiator and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of N∗s can provide us with critical insights into the nature of QCD in the confinement domain. The keys to progress in this domain are the identification of its important degrees of freedom and the effective forces between them. The nucleon is the simplest system in which the nonabelian character of QCD is manifest. There are Nc quarks in a baryon because there are Nc colors, and as a consequence Gell-Mann and Zweig were forced to introduce the quarks in order to describe the octet and decuplet baryons. This volume gives a status report on the recent experimental and theoretical results in the field of nucleon resonance physics. A wealth of new high precision data was presented from facilities around the world, such as BES, BNL, ELSA, GRAAL, JLab, MAMI, MIT/Bates, SPring8, and Yerevan. Particular emphasis was laid on polarization degrees of freedom and large acceptance detectors as precision tools for studying small but important transition amplitudes, and the helicity (spin) structure of the nucleon. There were new results describing the nucleon resonance structure on the basis of quantum chromodynamics, either directly in terms of quarks and gluons by means of lattice gauge theory, or in terms of hadrons in the framework of chiral field theories. A status report on duality showed the surprising connections between the physics of the low energy nucleon resonance region and the realm of quark structure functions in deep inelastic scattering. Finally, this volume contains a summary report of the BRAG workshop, devoted to the analysis of baryon resonances.
Book Synopsis Topological Geometrodynamics by : Matti Pitkanen
Download or read book Topological Geometrodynamics written by Matti Pitkanen and published by Luniver Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topological GeometroDynamics is a modification of general relativity inspired by the conceptual problems related to the definitions of inertial and gravitational energy in general relativity. Topological geometrodynamics can be also seen as a generalization of super string models. Physical space-times are seen as four-dimensional surfaces in certain eight-dimensional space. The choice of this space is fixed by symmetries of the standard model so that geometrization of known classical fields and elementary particle quantum numbers results. The notion of many-sheeted space-time allows re-interpretation of the structures of perceived world in terms of macroscopic space-time topology. The generalization of the number concept based on fusion of real numbers and p-adic number fields implies a further generalization of the space-time concept allowing to identify space-time correlates of cognition and intentionality. Quantum measurement theory extended to a quantum theory of consciousness becomes an organic part of theory. A highly non-trivial prediction is the existence of a fractal hierarchy of copies of standard model physics with dark matter identified in terms of macroscopic quantum phases characterized by dynamical and quantized Planck constant. The book is a comprehensive overview and analysis of topological geometrodynamics as a mathematical and physical theory.

Book Synopsis Gdh 2000 - The Gerasimov-drell-hearn Sum Rule & The Nucleon Spin Structure In The Resonance Region by : Dieter Drechsel
Download or read book Gdh 2000 - The Gerasimov-drell-hearn Sum Rule & The Nucleon Spin Structure In The Resonance Region written by Dieter Drechsel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-02-05 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of spin in general, and of the nucleon spin structure in particular, has been full of surprises. For the past 25 years deep inelastic lepton scattering has been studied to determine the carriers of the nucleon spin. However, it was realized only recently that a full understanding of the nucleon spin will also require detailed information on the helicity structure in the resonance region, i.e. in the realm of nonperturbative QCD.This volume gives a status report on the spin structure in the nucleon resonance region, focusing on: new experimental results from SLAC and HERMES; a first glance at the JLab experiments to map out the spin structure functions at low and intermediate four-momentum transfers; the pioneering experiment at MAMI (Mainz) to determine the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule for real photons; and recent theoretical concepts and investigations to describe the spin structure in the frameworks of higher twist expansion, phenomenological models and chiral perturbation theory.
