Book Synopsis Neutron Form Factors from Inelastic Electron-deutron Scattering by : E. B. Hughes

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electromagnetic form factors of the neutron have been measured in the q-squared range from 1.0 to 30.01/F sq. It is found that for values of q-squared greater than about 6.01/F sq the square of the neutron's charge form factor is consistent with zero to within an error of the order of 5% in the existing theoretical cross section. For values of q-squared less than 6.01/F sq it is concluded that meaningful values of the neutron form factors cannot be given until the necessary corrections to the theory are better understood. The present results on the neutron form factors are combined with recent measurements of the proton form factors to provide experimental determinations of the isotopic nucleon form factors. It is found that the omega and phi mesons provide a good approximation to the observed isoscalar form factors but that it is difficult to understand the behavior of the isovector form factors in terms of the rho meson alone. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The differential cross section for quasielastic scattering of electrons from neutrons initially bound in deuterium has been measured at 90 deg and 120 deg laboratory angle for values of the four-momentum transfer squared equal to 11, 15, 20, 25, and 35 deg. The yield of momentum analyzed scattered electrons was measured using CD2, CH2, and C targets. The Durand theory for the effects of deuteron binding is used to extract experimental values for the ratio of the electron-neutron and electron-proton differential cross sections. Over most of the range of the experiment the ratio is between 0.3 and 0.5. The neutron form factors obtained are consistent with previous measurements at lower momentum transfer. (Author).

Download or read book Neutron Form Factors from Elastic Electron-Deuteron Scattering written by Thomas Walter Mader and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilizing a gas target in electron-deuteron and electron-proton scattering, measurements of the ratio of the deuteron to proton form factor, G sub ed/G sup ep, were made within a precision of 0.8 to 1.3 percent for the range of momentum transfers, q squared, from 0.05 to 0.60 inverse Fermis squared and for scattering angles between 60 and 120 degrees. From G sub ep/G sub ep the neutron to proton form factor ratio, G sub en/G sub ep, was extracted utilizing the deuteron structure factor, as calculated from the Feshbach-Loman wave functions, and relativistic corrections. This book was released on 1966 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the ratio of the total inelastic electrondeuteron cross section to the elastic electron-proton cross section were made to an accuracy of about 3% for values of the square of the four-momentum transfer in the range 1.5 to 7.5/F-sq. These ratios were analyzed in terms of the form factors of the neutron using the 'area method', and it is concluded that the corrections necessary to the simple sum rule given by Jankus are approximately equal in magnitude to those encountered in the use of the more familiar 'peak method'. A detailed comparison was made between the shapes of the observed inelastic electrondeuteron cross sections as a function of the scattered electron momentum and the shapes expected according to a theoretical treatment due to Durand. Book Synopsis Neutron Form Factors from Elastic Electron-deuteron Scattering Ratio Experiments at Very Low Momentum Transfers by : Raymond William Berard
Download or read book Neutron Form Factors from Elastic Electron-deuteron Scattering Ratio Experiments at Very Low Momentum Transfers written by Raymond William Berard and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the ratio of the elastic electron-deuteron scattering cross section to the elastic electron-proton scattering cross section were made for low momentum transfers. Augmented by the work of Topping these data span a range of (q sup 2) from 0.05 (fm sup -2) to 0.50 (fm sup -2). From these, the electric form factor of the neutron, (G sub E sub n), was extracted using three Lomon-Feshbach wave functions for the deuteron, (LF1, LF5, and LF15). Values of the slope of (G sub E sub n) versus q2 were measured to be 0.0218 plus or minus 0.0022 for LF1, 0.0220 plus or minus 0.0022 for LF5, and 0.0185 plus or minus 0.0022 for LF15. Although the data seems to prefer model LF15, all were found to be in agreement with the thermal neutron-electron slope of 0.0193 plus or minus 0.0004.
Book Synopsis Role of Meson Current in the Determination of Neutron from Factors from Elastic Electron-deuteron Scattering by : Klaus Dietz
Download or read book Role of Meson Current in the Determination of Neutron from Factors from Elastic Electron-deuteron Scattering written by Klaus Dietz and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information on the electro-magnetic (e-m) neutron form factors is mainly deduced by inference from electron-deuteron scattering. Consideration is given to the use of elastic-scattering data; and results are compared with those of DeVries et al. (Phys. Rev. v134 pB848 1964) who obtained their results by using only inelastic electron-deuteron scattering data.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The presence of two magnetic spectrometers in the end station of a linear accelerator has opened a new field of research in electron scattering problems. The problem of e-p coincidences in deuterium is being studied with the detection of relatively energetic protons (above 50 Mev). The neutron form factors can be obtained more easily from the measurement of the e-n coincidence (with the detection of high-energy neutron) or the coincidence e-p (with low-energy proton, less than 10 Mev). The experiment discussed here is an attempt to find a value for the proton form factors in a bound state and see if they are equal to those obtained for a free proton. (Author).
