Equally significant for behavior are the input mechanisms (the brain cannot be influenced unless it is reached by afferent impulses) and output mechanisms (the brain cannot respond unless it can control efferent impulses to effector organs). Despite their obvious importance, we do not attempt to provide a formal review of sensory or motor systems with relation to the brain.

For this reason, the authors deal with the hallmark lesions in the early phases of the AD process in considerable detail
