However, as biological data retrieved from fossil and death assemblages cannot be treated in isolation, conservation palaeobiology integrates palaeontological and geological tools to account for the nature of the stratigraphic record. This volume brings together studies that demonstrate how combining marine palaeoecological records with other types of geohistorical data (taphonomic, sedimentological, geochronological, geochemical) can inform biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management. Book excerpt: This final project report summarizes the methods and findings from the investigation of the impacts of fall storms on waterbird nest densities on the outer coast of the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta of Alaska. The purpose is to understand the potential effects of climate changes, such as sea level rises and increased storm frequency and intensity to waterbird populations and breeding habitat. The authors investigated the short-term and long-term effects of storm surges to geese and eider species that commonly breed in the delta. Those species studies in this report are cackling goose, emperor goose, black brant, greater white-fronted goose, spectacles eider, common eider. The authors compared nest densities in relation to magnitude of storms that occurred in the preceding fall between 2000 and 2013, and modeled nest densities using random forests in relation to the time-integrated flood index for modeled storms and for other environmental covariates.
