Some sanguine observers think that the term functional will soon be expunged from medical nomenclature, on the ground that every disturbance of function must be due to change of structure. Even admitting the validity, though by no means capable of demonstration, of this latter statement, it does not follow that the change should always be of such a character as to be discoverable by the aid of any instrument whatever.
