El libro se divide en 26 grandes secciones en donde, a través de un total de 204 capítulos, se presenta de forma concisa y muy estructurada la información esencial de cada uno de los trastornos descritos. Solamente en el 2.o capítulo se abordan los conceptos de crecimiento y desarrollo (tablas de crecimiento, etc.), pasando ya al estudio de las diferentes patologías (enfermedades del metabolismo, alteraciones del comportamiento, medicina adolescente, enfermedades reumáticas infantiles, ortopedia, etc...). El texto, muy conciso, se ve magistralmente acompañado y complementado por un elevado número de fotografías clínicas, diagramas de flujo, tablas y esquemas que le confieren un gran valor didáctico. Igualmente, y para reforzar la rápida accesibilidad a la información, a lo largo del texto se señalan en negrita las palabras más importantes o representativas de cada párrafo. La obra se acompaña del recurso online Student Consult, en el que puede accederse a todo el texto online, así como a todas las figuras. La obra nace a partir de la necesidad, por parte de los alumnos de Medicina, de poder disponer de un texto de referencia en pediatría, pero sin caer en la exhaustividad y profundidad de los dos volúmenes de la 18.a del NELSON. Por ello, los mismos autores del tratado presentan este texto, fruto de un gran trabajo de concisión, sin olvidar en ningún momento el carácter práctico que debe tener una obra de este tipo.
