Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a field-tested enrichment program, MAP, to help married couples maximize their relationship potential. MAP is a metaphor for a planned and systematic change effort for helping spouses chart and navigate toward desired individual and collective goals. A key component of the program, which is tailored to the corporate sector, is assistance to couples in forging a more productive and supportive work and family partnership that will help them achieve their marital ambitions. The program is built upon an explicit consideration of family-related values and is undergirded by a theoretically and empirically based conceptual model: the Value-Behavior Congruency Model. Although the enrichment program provides the organizing theme, the core of the book is directed toward providing theoretical and empirical support for the Congruency Model, and linking the development and implementation of the program with trends in corporate America today. Two data sets are used to test the critical assumptions that form the basis of the model. The first involves 48 married couples from two posts in the U.S. Army, where one or both spouses were members of the Army; the second involves a sample of 34 couples from a Fortune 500 corporation in the northeastern United States in which MAP was first field-tested. Taken together, the contents of this book represent an attempt to integrate theory, research, and practice in the development and grounding of the enrichment program. Although such attempts are recognized as important tasks in the behavioral and social sciences, segregation rather than integration of these three domains has been the rule rather than the exception in the literature. This volume should be especially relevant to the growing number of marital enrichment specialists who are looking for more theoretically and empirically grounded support programs, especially those that have been field tested in the expanding market of workplace programs for employees and their families. It should be a valuable resource for senior managers and human resource professionals in both the private and public sectors who want to strengthen the organizational support for employees and their families.

Book excerpt: The two authors of this book, Linda Grenz and Del Glover, say at the outset that they are ordinary Christians writing for ordinary Christians and ordinary congregations. So why has this book become a classic for couples about to marry, couples already married, and the congregations that support them? Because they approach the ordinary issues couples face in marriage from the life-experience perspectives of an Episcopal priest (Linda) and a former corporate executive (Del) who worked with people as they faced various family-related issues. They invite readers to use the book in ways that speak most directly to them and offer questions for the couple to discuss and others that engage a congregation. The book is interspersed with relevant quotes from scripture with probing questions for the individual to consider. Book excerpt: Ryan and Selena Frederick were newlyweds when they landed in Switzerland to pursue Selena's dream of training horses. Neither of them knew at the time that Ryan was living out a death sentence brought on by a worsening genetic heart defect. Soon it became clear he needed major surgery that could either save his life--or result in his death on the operating table. The young couple prepared for the worst. When Ryan survived, they both realized that they still had a future together. But the near loss changed the way they saw all that would lie ahead. They would live and love fiercely, fighting for each other and for a Christ-centered marriage, every step of the way. Fierce Marriage is their story, but more than that, it is a call for married couples to put God first in their relationship, to measure everything they do and say to each other against what Christ did for them, and to see marriage not just as a relationship they should try to keep healthy but also as one worth fighting for in every situation. With the gospel as their foundation, Ryan and Selena offer hope and practical help for common struggles in marriage, including communication problems, sexual frustration, financial stress, family tension, screen-time disconnection, and unrealistic expectations.

This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book I address this difficult institution. I will weave in our experiences, not because ours is perfect, but to share what we have learnt, and what we continue to learn to enjoy together as friends, and as husband and wife. I hope that after reading it you will find something worthwhile to think about; adopt what you think is relevant and appropriate, and adapt it to your situation. My belief is that it will hopefully make your marriage the best example of love and commitment, till death do you part. It is not important that you remember in detail all the information from what you read, but rather, what you think because of what you have read and understood. Your attitude to the whole process is all that matters. I hope that those preparing for marriage will also find some useful information to prepare them for the journey into matrimony. This book is divided into six chapters. I use the acronym L-E-A-R-N as a title for the first five Chapters. Chapter 1 discusses the importance of learning to love as the basis of the marriage relationship. Chapter 2 looks at your expectations of marriage and the importance of continuous evaluation as your circumstances change. Chapter 3 stresses that couples that love each other care for each other's physical and emotional needs. Chapter 4 takes up the role respect plays in building up the relationship. Chapter 5 encourages the couple to allow and support creativity within the relationship which will enable them to grow. Chapter 6, the last chapter, addresses some of the conflicts that hinder learning in a marriage. At the end of each chapter, there are exercises to do. The aim is to give the readers a chance to re-assess the marriage and identify strengths and areas of improvement, to take remedial action where appropriate. You will find that throughout the conversation, no marriage aims at being a perfect specimen. It requires regular assessment and adjustment to the changes around you. Both of you must be willing to do it when the need arises.
