The Department for Education and Skills spends around £6.7 billion on skills training in England, with an additional £23.7 billion being spent by employers. Despite this expenditure there are still skill shortages and the UK has low productivity compared to rival economies. It is based on direct research with employers on how they want publicly funded training to be improved and whether it represents value for money. It is divided into four sections that look at the need for: clear advice on the best training for staff; training that meets business needs; incentives for employers to do more training; and ways that employers can influences skills training.

Rather than focus exclusively on changes within the EU labour market and related policy debates, this book offers a careful, grounded analysis of the social and cultural processes bound up with migration flows between Britain and Bulgaria, placing these flows in the wider European perspective. Book Synopsis Delaying Retirement by : Dirk Hofäcker
Download or read book Delaying Retirement written by Dirk Hofäcker and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To a backdrop of ageing societies, pension crises and labour market reforms, this book investigates how the policy shift from early retirement to active ageing has affected individual retirement behaviour. Focusing on eleven European countries, the United States and Japan, it brings together leading international experts to analyze recent changes in pension systems. Their findings demonstrate that there has been a fundamental transition in pension policies and a steep increase in older workers’ retirement ages and employment rates. Yet changes in retirement behavior are not evenly distributed across all societal strata. This raises the serious concern that an overall rise in the retirement age will be accompanied by the re-emergence of social inequality in the transition from work to retirement. This innovative edited collection will appeal to students and scholars of sociology, economics, political science, human resources management, gerontology and social policy, and also to policy-makers and professionals dealing with older workers.

Book Synopsis International Migration and Global Justice by : Satvinder Juss
Download or read book International Migration and Global Justice written by Satvinder Juss and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should international law approach the critical issue of movement of peoples in the 21st century? This book presents a radical reappraisal of this controversial problem. Challenging present-day ideas of restrictions on freedom of movement and the international structure that controls entry to states, it argues for a new blueprint for international migration policy that eliminates waste, aids both developing and developed societies and brings attendant benefits to voluntary migrants and involuntary refugees alike. In a world of increasing disorder, it is suggested that current policy only adds to international instability and threatens the interests of a functional global community.
