Book excerpt: The purpose of this inspection of Six Mile Lane Lake Dam was to make an assessment of the general conditions of the dam with respect to safety, based upon available data and visual inspection, in order to determine if the dam poses hazards to human life or property. The inspection and evaluation indicates that the spillways meet the criteria set forth in the recommended guidelines for a small dam having a high hazard potential. One-half of the Probable Maximum Flood is the appropriate spillway design flood. The spillways will pass the 100-year flood (a flood having a one percent probability of being exceeded in any year) without overtopping the dam. The spillways will pass 75% of the Probable Maximum Flood without overtopping the dam. Maintenance procedures are recommended.

Book excerpt: This report presents the results of field inspection and evaluation of the Mononame 27 Dam: It was prepared under the National Program of Inspection of Non-Federal Dams. This dam has been classified as unsafe, non-emergency by the St. Louis District as a result of the application of the following criteria: Spillway will not pass 50 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood. Overtopping could result in dam failure. Dam failure significantly increases the hazard to loss of life downstream. (Author).

Book excerpt: The purpose of the inspection was to make an assessment of the general conditions of the dam with respect to safety, based upon available data visual inspection, in order to determine if the dam poses hazards to human life or property. The inspection and evaluation indicate that the spillways do not meet the minimum criteria set forth in the recommended guidelines for an intermediate dam having a high hazard potential. The Probable Maximum Flood is the appropriate spillway design flood. The spillway will pass the 100-year flood (a flood having a 1 percent probability of being exceeded in any year) without overtopping the dam. The spillways will pass 22 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood without overtopping the dam. The Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) is defined as the flood that may be expected from the most severe combination of critical meteorologic and hydrologic conditions that are reasonably possible in the region.

Blume and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this inspection was to make an assessment of the general condition of the dam with respect to safety, based upon available data and visual inspection, in order to determine if the dam poses hazards to human life or property. The inspection and evaluation indicates the spillway does not meet the criteria set forth in the guidelines for a dam having this size and hazard potential. The emergency spillway will pass neither the probable maximum flood nor 50 percent of the probable maximum flood without overtopping but will pass 10 percent of the probable maximum flood, which is less than the estimated 100-year flood. The dam will pass a 10-year event without being overtopped. The spillway design flood recommended by the guidelines is 50 to 100 percent of the probable maximum flood. The probable maximum flood is defined as the flood discharge that may be expected from the most severe combination of critical meteorologic and hydrologic conditions that are reasonably possible in the region. Deficiencies visually observed by the inspection team were erosion and sloughing of the upstream embankment, erosion and sloughing of the downstream embankment, seepage, and the presence of excessive trees on the downstream embankment slope. There were no observed deficiencies or conditions existing at the time of the inspection which indicated an immediate safety hazard. Future corrective action and regular maintenance will be required to correct or control the described deficiencies. In addition, detailed seepage and stability analyses of the existing dam, as required by the guidelines, should be performed.

Book excerpt: 102 Rivers, C-5 Dam, was inspected by an interdisciplinary team of engineers. The purpose of the inspection was to make an assessment of the general condition of the dam with respect to safety, based upon available data and visual inspection, in order to determine if the dam poses hazards to human life or property. Our inspection and evaluation indicates that the spillway does not meet the criteria set forth in the recommended guidelines for a small dam having a high hazard potential. Considering the downstream hazards involved and the amount of water impounded, 50% of the Probable Maximum Flood is the appropriate spillway design flood. The spillway will pass the 100-year flood (flood having a one percent chance of being exceeded in any year) without overtopping the dam. The spillway will pass 35% of the Probable Maximum Flood without overtopping the dam. Book excerpt: Komer Lake Dam was inspected by an interdisciplinary term of engineers. The purpose of the inspection was to make an assessment of the general conditions of the dam with respect to safety, based upon available data and visual inspection, in order to determine if the dam poses hazards to human life or property. In accordance with the guidelines and based on visual observation, the dam is classified as having a high potential for damage and loss of life. Failure would threaten life and property. The estimated damage zone extends approximately two (2) miles downstream of the dam. Within the damage zone are three or four houses, two commercial buildings, and Highway FF, all of which are located in Agency. Our inspection and evaluation indicates that the spillways do not meet the criteria set forth in the recommended guidelines for an intermediate dam having a high hazard potential. The Probable Maximum Flood is the appropriate spillway design flood. The spillways will pass the 100-year flood (1% probability flood - having a one percent chance of being exceeded in any year) without overtopping the dam. The spillways will pass 21% of the Probable Maximum Flood without overtopping the dam. The Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) is defined as the flood that may be expected from the most severe combination of critical meteorologic and hydrologic conditions that are reasonably possible in the region.

Book excerpt: The dam is an earthfill structure approximately 155 feet long and 40 feet in height. It is located in a deeply incised gully in the deep loess hill country adjacent to the Missouri River Valley in northwestern Missouri. The principal spillway consists of a 24-inch diameter steel pipe with a hood inlet which passes through the embankment on an angle of about 30 deg to the centerline of the dam. A vegetated earth emergency spillway is cut through the abutment on the left (north) end of the dam. The bottom width of the spillway is 25 feet. A vegetated earth emergency spillway is cut through the abutment on the right (south) end of the dam. The bottom width of the spillway is 20 feet. Our inspection and evaluation indicates that the spillway does not meet the criteria set forth in the recommended guidelines for a small dam having a high hazard potential. The spillways will pass 13% of the Probable Maximum Flood without overtopping the dam.
